SuitedAces21 2,723
totally psyched for itMe too. I'm a little worried that Leo wont be able to pull it off, but even if thats true, the rest of the cast will make up for him.
Ron_Mexico 4,219
Me too. KDawgCometh 2
I'm definetly looking forward to it as its a remake of one of my favorite films( Infernal Affairs). I have no doubt that I will be happy with the end result

runthemover 39
Infernal Affairs is awesome. this almost certainly will be as well. the only thing that sucks is the earliest show at the movie theatre I go to is 1145

JMoney2681 0
thought it was great, everyone put on a solid performanceThe movie was awesome. Good acting, good story line, good everything. Leo pulled it off well. Damon seemed to play a good "slime ball" character. Nicholson is just Nicholson. *thumbs up*

I'll have to digest this for a whileyea, this is my take too. I think that I need to see it again because I was comparing it way too much to IA when watching it, and while its a remake, there are some significant differences between them. THough all of the key plot points are there

And I don't think it will be as good as The Departed, but I will see.well, one thing to remember about IA is that its actually a three part series, but, the departed was a remake of IA. IA is already a legendary Hong Kong film, and it was only released like 4 or 5 years ago

IA is already a legendary Hong Kong film, and it was only released like 4 or 5 years agohmmm I'll have to check it out....Also, Leo is a fine actor... just because an actor is super famous, doesn't mean he's an Affleck. He's a great actor who makes great choices in roles/dirrectors to work with.

KDawgCometh 2
The one with Gere and Baldwin right? That is the one to watch right? It's a 3 part series!?how do you get Gere and Baldwin from me pointing out that its from Hong Kong? No, it has Andy Lau(from house of flying daggers) and Tony Leung(from hero and in the mood for love) in the roles that Damon and Leo played respectively. Nicholson did a much better job then Eric Tsang, which was just to be expected as Nicholson is one of the greatest actors of all timeedit: I just noticed that you thought it was internal affairs. No, its called Infernal affairs

It's a play on the infernal nature of the situation both characters are in.somehow when I first watched them a few years ago my friends let me watch 2 then 1 then 3. for those not in the know, 2 is a prequel. And, in my opinon 2 is on par (if not better!) than the original. I'd need to watch departed again but I think I like Frank Costello as the villain better than Sam . Sam is more comedic (although I think the actor usually plays comedic roles?) than Frank. As usual Alec Baldwin was good. Everytime I see this guy he gets more respect from me. Geeze, can I rent them at a block buster or am I screwed?

Sam is more comedic (although I think the actor usually plays comedic roles?) than Frank.I definetly agree with this. Frank was very scary and you fully believed him as a typical american mob boss. I don't know how the triads work in Hong Kong and mainland china, so its hard to say. Maybe a guy like sam becomes the boss because of his cunning and wit as opposed to brute force scariness. Damon was great, but he didn't have the smugness or entitlement that Andy Lau had in IA and that was kinda missing for me. Damon seemed more rough around the edges whereas Andy Lau was smooth and suave
runthemover 39
Just in case, there are SPOILERS in almost all posts below so don't come complaining. I mean why would u open a thread about a movie you haven't seen in the first place but yea. I definetly agree with this. Frank was very scary and you fully believed him as a typical american mob boss. I don't know how the triads work in Hong Kong and mainland china, so its hard to say. Damon was great, but he didn't have the smugness or entitlement that Andy Lau had in IA and that was kinda missing for me. Damon seemed more rough around the edges whereas Andy Lau was smooth and suaveto me damon didnt seem to have as much of the duality that andy lau had. Andy lau really seemed to struggle with his situation. where he was trying to be a good guy (remember that scene with the wife writing her book not knowing what type of guy her character was). either way they are both bad guys.I definitely agree with Sam being more cunning and smart (This is really shown in IA2) whereas Frank was just relentless as the departed showed by what he did to stay in power. "in the old days we would just kill everybody: and his affiliation with the FBIWell no one could play the Frank Costello character any better than Nicholson. So there are 3 parts to Infernal Affair? Geeze, can I rent them at a block buster or am I screwed?well 1 and 2 are on DVD. I got them on netflix last month to re-watch before the departed came out. I don't think #3 is on dvd yet, I originally watched a downloaded divx version so I'm sure you can find it somewhere

Andy lau really seemed to struggle with his situation. where he was trying to be a good guy (remember that scene with the wife writing her book not knowing what type of guy her character was). either way they are both bad guys.MORE SPOILERS FOR THOSE THAT ACTUALLY THINK GOING INTO A THREAD ABOUT A FILM WILL NOT HAVE SPOILERS, and there are spoilers about infernal affairs here tooI think part of the biggest problem of the Damon/Lau situation was that Damon and Leo were both trying to get the same girl while Lau had his own girl and Leung had his situations with his ex(woefully no info on her at all, and from what I've heard, none in either of the sequels) and his odd realtionship with the shrink. I think part of that was that Scorsese didn't need to have leo mention that he was a cop since Wahlberg's character obviously knew, while in IA both of the guys who knew his identity were dead by the end of the film. But with Yan telling the shrink that he was a cop was a key point IMO as it still showed that he was always a good guy and you didn't have Leo constantly reminding us about that, while you have Damon reminding us constantly about the fact that he had always been working for the other side.Damon's non grappling also bothered me, but that was also his character as he was a rough kid from the neighborhood while Lau's character was reluctant to be a cop in teh first place. What did work was the shock though at the end with Leo's and Leung's character's being killed as the entire theater gasped when that happened just like I gasped when Leung was killed. It was probably hard for me to watch that as i knew what was going to happen, so that major point for me was taken away. I'm a little drunk right now, so I'm basically rambling at this point
runthemover 39
totally agree with your post. the only thing shocking to me was that he was killed at the bottom of the elevator
