ripptyde 0
my dad just sent me a couple emails....he has been living in Thailand for the last 16 years because of his disgust for this countryI just watched the Thai news (in English language)The new prime minister is a military man with great respect from the king. He was signed in yesterday. They will chose 100 people to write a new constitution. They will try to have a election in a year, and restore democracy4 close friends of the old prime misnister were put in jail till everything settles down , just in case they may have tried something. The old prime minister, Taksin,, is still out of the country. He also moved allhis assets out of the country. It's possible that he could face jail time if he returns. They say he squandered 400 billion baht during his five years in power by giving his rich friends contracts amongst other things. There are some folks that are upset by the coup. There were several fires set in a city north of bangkok where Taksuin had lot's of friends. There was a picture of a taxi, all busted up in the front end because the driver didn't like the coupe. He ran his taxi head on into a tank. They had the taxi on display for the folks to come and take a look.So far, there haven't been any demonstrations. Most sensible folks know that Taksin was no good. The police force has been turned over to the new prime minister. The old chief of police has no power. ( I assume they fear a rebellion against the military by the police. ( The police here are a national organization), just like an army. The new prime minister is promising to make peace in the south of Thailand where the muslim seperatists have been making trouble and bombing schools and train stations and discos ever since I can remember. ( I doubt any new prime minister is going to sollve that problem unless he put's a lot of Muslims in jail)Wouldn't it be nice if the American people could change regimes as peacefully as Thailand? ripptyde 0
second email from my dad >> (edited slightly)Most Americans buy in to the materialistic lifestyle because they are too ignorant to think of a alternative. They are gullible people who continue to indulge in purchasing material junk they don't need, just so they can impress their neighbors and friends. They use credit without caring how much extra it's costing them because they are stupid and believe the credit agencies and advertizers. Most Americans are in debt. 20 years ago Americans had savings accounts. Now, they don't care. 30% of Americans are worse than fat. They are extremely obese because they are too stupid and Lazy to take care of their bodies. They want INSTANT gratification. To make things worse, they beleive the bull **** the government gives them, and follow along like sheep to the slaughter. Now that I have lived out of the U.S.A. for all these years, I realize I don't like Americans very much (generally speaking). I can also see that people from europe don't like Yanks either. When someone here ask's me "Where are you from?". I say "Cuba", just so I won't be put in the position of answereing for U.S. Foreign policy. If I say from U.S.A., I get a immediate negative _expression on their face making me know they hate yanks. I've even taken to pretending I can't speak. I croak, and point to my throat. I don't have a problem dealing with the local Thai people because they are mostly non-judgemental and interested in me as a individual rather than a foreign policy.I've read, and re-read your letter. Very well written. And I can see that you are aware of what is going on in U.S., and are at the crossroads of whether you are going to continure to buy in to the system (buy junk and pay taxes), or, go underground, and take hold of your own life. Do something for yourself. Get under the radar screen. You might try taking up a hobby that supplements your income. It's not only about money. It's a learning experience and a challange. It's a lesson in disclipine. It takes your mind off all that world political bullshit that makes you depressed. You get a sence of accomplishment because you are making a positive contribution to society, and helping people out.Long ago, I figured it out that it's not how much money you make, It's how you manage it. Buy what you need, not what you WANT.Speaking of needs and want's, and money, I wont be making as many phone calls because my budget has been in the red for a few months in a row now, and I have to economise. Hopefully the baht will get weaker against the dollar and help me out.Anyway, I hope you will continue to e-mail me occasionally, because I want to keep in touch.Love. DadYour dad has a lot of good points. I too agree we all indulge in too many material things and that as a whole, Americans are in huge debt and are obese and don't really care about anything important. Thankfully we are all not like that though. I am fortunate enough to have common sense and thus will wait until I have enough money to buy the item before going out and buying it. I'm 23 and I have awesome credit. I have never been late on a payment once and always pay the full amount. I have a decent amount of money saved up but nothing too spectacular. I use to be obese but I lost 100 pounds 3 years ago and have kept it off and my losing weight inspired a friend of mine to lose some weight and I also help other friends with their weight on occassion. I just thank God that my car broke down which forced me to walk 6 miles home from school (which helped me started losing weight) and I eventually lost more during the summer.I have been blessed though cause I was in a 4 year rut where i didn't have a job and was only taking 2-3 classes a semester in college(while my dad was paying for it). I was living at home and had no income but my dad who is awesome still supported me and has never pushed me out. Only now though am I starting to realize how amazing God is in during all that time I didn't gather any debt, or just fall off the face of the earth and become a drug addict or alcoholic.I wish everyone who "might" lose their income through online poker all the best in the world.
