Bush Best President In 25 Years.

Recommended Posts

WARNING.... read the FULL post before replying!!!!Since Daniel brought up politics in his BLOG, I'll give my $.02I think President Bush is the best president of my adult life (I'll be 40 in a few months). He won election by running as a reasonable Conservative. He didn't try to divide the nation into blue and red... playing to a fringe base. He simply explained why he was the better candidate. No name calling or extremist pandering. Just intelligent, clearly well thought out policies.Once elected, he acted in the same manner as during the campaign: moderate, reasonable. He showed strength when required, moderation when required, and humility when required. He always did what was best for the nation and the world community.Economic policy was always about the long-term best interest of the nation, not just the next election. He built coalitions instead of turning the world against us. He worked with those he disagreed with to find the best compromise. And, jsut in case you haven't figured it out yet...... yes.... I'm talking about George Herbert Walker Bush, not George Walker Bush.I think the son is pretty much the exact opposite of the father. He pandered to the Bible thumping fringe, playing policits of division. He thumbed his nose at the global cumminity, making us the enemy of the world. He based policy not on intelligent thought, but instead used his gut. Translation of "using his gut": God is on our side so will make sure we beat them infidel, camel jokeys.Bush Jr. is an idiot. A "C" student that has surrounded himself with incompetant fools that have blinders on. They block out any information that doesn't fit the world as they want it to be in their ideal world. How did we get from there to here? I think it started with Bork.... and the Democrats. In 1987 Reagan nominated Bork for the Supreme Court. Bork was a staunch anti-Roe v. Wade constructionist. Exactly the kind of guy the Democrats didn't want on the Supreme Court. So the Democrats used quotes like "There is no Constitutional Right to birth control" to get him rejected in that pre-election year. Instead the seat went to Edwards... a true moderate that remains a key swing vote.In 1991 Bush Sr. gets to nominate another person to the Supreme Court. He goes with another anti-Roe "constructionist". Unfortunatly for the Democrats, this one had done a much better job of not putting extremist views into print. Facing defeat on this one, the DEMOCRATS turned to polictics of personal destruction. They used the acusation of sexual harassment to attempt to "bork" him. Listening to the Democrats of the time, one would think that sexual harassment was the worst crime ever, and the a totally unsubstantiated acusation was sufficient to hang someone for the offense.Democrats fired first!!!!Therefore, the Democrats had no one to blame but themselves when a few years later, their boy is accused of exactly the same thing... this time with a HUGE mountain of substantial evidence against him. This lead to depositions... which lead to perjury... which lead to impeachment....What a mess. Now we have the nation divided into anti-abortion, anti-gay rights, gun totin', pro-war Conservative... and unborn-baby killing, un-American non-patriots, homo lovin', minority pandering Liberals.Look people. BOTH parties suck. We have the tax and spend Democrats vs. the borrow and spend Republicans, meanwhile the national debt keeps getting bigger, the trade gap keep widening, the dollar keeps sinking in the currency market. Social Security is on the verge of collapse, and the politiciation are talking about how much drug coverage to add to Medicare. The medical system is crubling while we debate abortion and birth control. Republicans tried to use illegal immigrants to fire up the base, but they got burned big-time by that hot button.... so it goes back on the back burner to be ignored.Neither side is interested in ANY kind of progress on any issue, becuase they need those issues to make sure you don't see what horrid leaders they are.

I'm starting to agree with you. I've been a Republican all my life. I don't think Bush Jr. is the horrible president that a lot of people think he is, but there are a lot of things going on in the Republican party lately that have not made me feel good. I'm thinking about becoming a Libertarian.

I don't even need to read your argument. You're wrong and that's all there is to it. Bush = WORST President of the last 25 years. AINEC.

All you guys that are refusing to read the post are pretty funny, since halfway through the post he reveals that he's not talking about George W. Bush, but about Bush Sr. Though I don't necessarily like Bush Sr. either, I still find it funny that you guys are talking a bunch of shit, and you didn't even read the post.

Heh, that's funny. Bush Sr. wasn't the best President either though. A monkey probably could have beaten Dukakis. It's not like Bush Sr. was a great politician or a great President, hell he couldn't even win a 2nd term. Best President of the last 25 years...Reagan if you're a Republican, Clinton if you're a Democrat. AINEC.Also, we're talking about way too short of a timeframe here. If my math is right (and I'm pretty sure it is) the last 25 years only includes 4 Presidents.

Presumably you would include Republican members of Congress exchanging sexual e-mails and chat with teenage pages in that list.

This is the funniest thing to come out of the whole thread.I thought the OP's post was good, well thought out and rational. I don't exactly agree with it necessarily, but I think he made his argument somewhat well. W kind of makes me miss old school conservatives like Herbert W.

Bush SR did a pretty good job IMO. Some big things happened while he was in there.1. Desert Storm - pushing back Sadam, protecting Kuwait, NOT going into Bagdad, and putting sanctions on Sadam. All this with minimum US casualties. Looking at whats going on now, he handled that situation perfectly.2. End of the Cold War - This was HUGE folks. Sure Reagan (and others) did a lot in the previous years, but the Berlin Wall came down on Bushs watch. IMO the end of the Cold War played the biggest role in 90's boom.3. Raised Taxes - I'm calling this big. Why? Everyone villified him bacuase he promised not to, and that's exactly why I think its big. It was absolutely the right thing to do campaign promises be damned. He didnt like doing it, but he knew he had to and the country was better off in the future because of it. Right now, I sure wish we had a President who would say, "I know I promised something, but now I see things are different. I'm going to have to go back on my word and do whats right."
