some sites dont let certain ip ranges access sites, such as the ones designated for canada.. for instance i dont think canadians can access yahoo videos..or mtv.com videos, used to not be able to anyways, said it was cuz we was in canada eh

No, and doing so would probably fall under prior restraint. There are some that are blocked for reasons other than the US government - some sports webcasts aren't available in the US due to broadcast rights and so on.

Please people are already working on something to work around the regs. It will be like the Directtv H card thing a few years ago. When they zapped the cards, Everyone went to FTA receivers and basically get the directtv and dish network feeds for the cost of the receiver and dish. Hell its been illegal in Minnesota to play poker online for awhile and I'm still doing it.Rod

well if you think about it, if the bill passes, alot of sites will close automatically. the US gov cant force sites to close, as they dont have ALL us based players, however I'm sure they can close down the site if the site allows us players to play.now i dont work for the companys so i dont have the stats but i would assume over 80% of all players on sites like party poker and pokerstars are americans. no company loosing 80% of their revenue, with no chance of getting it back is going to stay in business for the other 20%........so unfortunately, us canadians, and really everyone else will be effected by the bill passing if it does..............

I do know that when Bet on sports.com guy was arrested and they shut down us clients a lot of people have been to date unable to get to there account to withdraw there funds. Bad beat and gg. So they can make it so you can't get there i guess hopefully it fails Republican party comes to its senes and desides its in the best interest of the country not to ban but regulate it.

Why doesn't the US government focus their efforts on better endovors like snuffing out all the internet kiddie porn. Or better yet, think outside the box, get the **** out of Iraq. Rebuild New Orleans. Get some food over to those starving people in Africa we used to hear about. Now those are real issues. We all know the government has their panties in a bunch over online gambling because they currently have yet to established a sure-fire way to get their paws on our profits. They won't have to block the sites. They will make offshore wire transfers (i.e. to Neteller etc.) illegal for banks to process.... from what I understand.I think Poker needs to prove that it is more of a game of skill than it is a game of chance over the long run and prove it scientifically. I have an idea that I think would work but I can't post it on the internet because that would compromise the entire study. I'm not sure who I should approach with the idea but online poker needs to get some more ammo in this fight I think.I do not have the money or resources to implement my 'study' but I would like to at least get my idea to someone who could.hopefully they won't need it.

It will be illegal for your bank or your credit card company to send money to any site that is used to fund online gaming.You will still be able to access the sites. You just won't be able to deposit any money into any type of account to fund your play.My take on this is it is the governments way to eventually open up online gaming to be taxed. The bill will pass, there will be an uproar. They will repeal the ban but require banks to list withdrawls as income and report it. Websites will be required to send you a 1099 showing your deposits, withdrawls, and net profits. Then you report it as income when you file.

Considering our current administration, it's probably www.freespeech.comAlthough I would be curious to know the real answer as well. I know China blocks quite a few sites.

Honestly, I think this is the real issue. They don't care for our "well being" or trying to protect those who have potential "gambling problems". They just now know that there are Americans making money playing online that they can't touch, and Uncle Sam is pissed and now sticking his hand out looking for a cut.

Whaturanna and Stylin_Fish - Please read what I wrote. Poker is a combination of luck and skill. One of the 'points' of the online legislation is that it is purely a game of luck. I believe that is incorrect.If I put YOU (or me), Daniel Negranu, Phil Ivey, Phil Helmuth, Men the Master, Scotty Nygun at a table and had you play 1000 S&G tournaments, pure luck would dictate that you or I would win around 167 of them. I bet we wouldn't even come close to that number. If it were pure luck, professionals wouldn't be able to feast on the amatures. I think it can be proven scientifically too. In any one HAND, then anyone with AA could win most of the time against any other player or even luck out a river card against any other player. Even a single tournament could be won by exceptional luck... but how does Phil Helmuth win 9 bracelets? How does Daniel Negranu win Player of the Year? Are they just luckier than everyone else? Rediculous.If you really believe poker to be all luck than you are a sitting duck and really aren't paying much attention. Seriously... why not just go play slots if you think that?Longliveyorke - It shouldn't matter, but it does. They shouldn't care if you want to smoke weed either, but they do. If online poker doesn't put some comprehensive arguments in place and do something beyond 'call in's' and writing your congressman (which does nothing if it doesn't have a check included) it is in real danger of being outlawed in the US. I think they will have to #1) agree to provide income documentation to the government (I think we all know that money is the big thing here)#2) find a way to prove or at least strongly suggest that poker should not be classified as a classic 'game of chance' to circumvent current laws and avoid the Morality police's in-bred aversion to people doing what they want to do.

Because some of the government believes they need to protect you from yourself. And to some extent this is true. For instance, if everyone spent all their money on hookers and blow, we'd have to support everyone in a welfare state. There are obvious reasons that's bad for society. So, the government in this case believes you are harming yourself gambling online. It depends on how you view government if you think this is true or not.There are also those who think gambling is religiously wrong and wish to impose those beliefs on you.
