Dn The Biggest Fish In The Pond?

Recommended Posts

Hi everybody, it has become more and more clear to me after watching the first two seasons of High stakes poker that Daniel is having problems making money at this level. He simply is in to many pots with inferior hands and when he catches anything at all he can NOT lay his hand down and therefore looks to be the absolute King of Payoffs. He also shows tells like no one else at the table and also has a tendancy to show too many hands which gives the other players information absolutely for free. Watching his play in season two has been like watching a train wreck: it is not a pretty sight but you just cannot look the other way.Do you think his bad play is due to the fact that he was tilting throughout the first two seasons or do you think that Daniel at this moment in time has lost his edge in cash game poker and is too easy to read for the other players? Maybe he will get a new chance in High stakes poker season 3 to show the world that he can play an ok game of poker without tilting his socks of - that is of course if he is willing to risk the buy-in once again.I have been a long time fan of Daniel as many of ther other people here at the forum, but common people: even fans must wonder what the heck he has been doing at times at the table in High stakes poker???

I'm just watching the latest episode of high stakes poker now and am in shock at his call with jacks. It's an automatic fold for me in this situation, coin flipping at best for 80k - no thanks!Add the fact that Barry has been playing no hands means he's definitely crushed.Phil Laak seemed like he was being curious as to why he called, valid question and Daniels reply was quite rude I thoughtHe was tilting like a mofo

Yep, seems like he has been on stone cold tilt all right.Seems like the only time he has folded a hand this season was with the nut flush against Todd Brunson...and that wasn´t the best move in the history of poker... well, come to think of it: he actually folded a pair of deuces against Doyles trip kings as well. But I think Doyle was pretty ok with getting Daniel to first call a 12 000 dollar reraise before the flop with KK vs 42 AND another 35 000 dollar on the flop with trips Kings vs Daniels pair of deuces (with a whopping kicker) and no draw whatsoever.

Yes, I agree as wellA edited show with announcers given scripts to read off to make the show exciting gives a fair and honest account of what happens in the two or three days they spend taping the season. Because they only have time for a few clips and because these few clips show Daniel in a couple hands and since mostly everyone can play No Limit Hold em at this level and knows the holecards without even looking at the screen, which tells the holecards by the way, I think this television show gives a fair representation of how Daniel plays all the games at all times and shows he always loses money and sucks in all waysGood analysis

You guys are right. DN is a terrible poker player. You guys should know because you play all the time in the biggest cash games in Vegas. Its not like you guys are getting your information from a TV show that shows on a small % of hands that were played. In fact, all the money he has won both tourneys and cash games have all been luck.

My friend posts on here and her and I argue about DN all the time, as she is a big DN fan. I too have liked DN in the past, but I have found this last year that his poker expertise is fading fast. I think at the expense of his desire to be the next "Tiger Woods" and I used to read his POKER blog, but now that it is all golf, golf, golf...Well, let's just say if I wanted to read a golf blog, I would go to a professional golfers site, like Tigers, not an amateur wanna be....I have watched DN this year at all his tourneys, whether it be in person or on televsion. I have yet to see any of his play be on par with that of his 2004 year, and I think he is just not hungry anymore....However, I just had to post about the high stakes TV show. I trully now can understand how he lost over a million dollars here, as I think that any amateur would have made a better showing. I agree with the poster, he had so many terrible calls, tells, pure DONK plays, well it was almost miserable to watch a once respected poker pro be dessimmated. Anyway, I hope that somehow, someway, he can get that hunger back. I was hoping that maybe his huge hit of a million in the cash game and losing his bankroll would have made him hungry and start again at lower limits and get the poker fire back, but it seems to have made him lazy.....At one point, he told us to all think about this as his JOB, well if I worked a job where I was performing like he does, and only interested in playing golf, my *** would be fired.....and well, too bad someone can't come in and fire him and make him hungry once again for poker!!!!!FLAME ON DANIEL BUTT KISSERS, FLAME ON!!!!!

Why is it so hard for some people on the forum to concede the fact that DN has played pretty badly at this game? It's kinda silly to defend him by just saying, he plays in the biggest games.. blah blah. That doesn't change that he's played really badly. And tons of people jumped on the Eli is a fish/bad Nl player bandwagon for some of the plays he's pulled on this show. And why, because he's played badly in one very bad steam session, do people start calling him a fish? Every single person here has gone on a steam session and started to get paranoid that everyone is making a move on him. Doesn't mean you're a bad player. It just means you should have gotten up an hour ago.

Why do some idiots post responses like that?Stop hanging from his balls and have some perspectiveHe is a world class player, no one said otherwise. He is 10 times the player I am. If I was as good I'd also be a multi-millionaire but thats not the point. He has got a few bad beats this season but he's also mis-played alot of handsWhile I think the thread title is fairly stupid, he is the biggest loser in both seasons of hsp (as far as i know)Poker is all about analysis and I'd bet that when DN saw that on tv last night he was pretty disgusted himself with such a bad call with the jacks

high stakes episodes, who cares?you guys act like this show is like a window into the financial lives of these players. :club:
Guys j, just as we can have 100 threads when daniel gets to day 2 day 3 or wins a tournament, we are allowed to comment when he seems to be playing poorly. Those few days on film do show how he is playing, which at that time was clearly not his best. His play on HSP is as much a guidline to his current game as any tournament or heads up win , AT THE TIME. We have seen him lose more on HSP in the last season then he seems to have won in all of his tournament play in the last 2 years. So it IS indicative of how he is or was playing. BUT....depending on when this is taped you could also say that it is from months if not almost a year ago and the WSOP is much more indicative of how has been playing recently, and he was the most impressive player I have seen on film with his reads basically, since I have been watching poker. By the time u watch HSP he it seems he has already come around from his "lows" and is on the way back up.

I wouldn't be surprised if he was trying to "Make it Happen" for HSP, and his game is suffering because of it. Sometimes (a lot of times) you just have to learn how to fold, no matter how ****ing good you are.

Playing in the HSP, would be like our top 8 FCP'ers battling it out at 1/2 etc... everyone have a strong understanding of the game, their own skills and strategies, and sometimes it takes some ridiculous plays or ideas to win.I'll bet you cant play ABC poker with those guys and break even.

Its utterly ****ing pointless to argue against dn cocksuckers on this site, I am sure everyone here knows he is a good player but when he is running bad just admit it, its not like its anything personal against him or anything. Also to say that he is a better player than you as a comeback is ****ing ridicilous as thats like saying a pro tennis player will ace you.

Actually David Gray has been established as the one guy who has made money long term playing ABC, and he's on HSP. :)In general though, I've been watching it off and on, and Daniel has been playing his normal LAG self. Its the same style that works for Gus pretty well. He's suffered some pretty bad coolers over the season, and I'm sure that's affected his play. Ray

One other issue is that we don't know what props are going on for each hand...at points they can strongly, strongly affect how a player is going to do his thing in any given play.DN was tilting when he called with the J's. He's human. I hope he's not really p'od at Laak; I don't know their history but I think Phil was trying to get DN to calm down a bit rather than call him out for a play he wouldn't have made himself.

Ya know it's weird that I never really thought of that. I bitched every weekend last year about how much Eli Manning was overrated and how we probably gave up too much for him, and if some one said that he's a better quarterback than me as a comeback, I really think that everyone in the room would laugh at him.

Mimi and to a lesser extent Laak did it as well.

u talkin in general or on HSP only
HSP. I have no idea in general. I know Mimi won in the first season playing straightforward. Laak seemed to play fairly straightforward with some weak tight tendencies. Just with the dynamics of the game with loose preflop calls and what I would assume to be a fair amount of air bluffs, it seemed like playing ABC wasn't a bad idea in that game.

You mean David Grey? and his ABC tactics have been talked about as the only player to actually make it work at the high stakes games.that says a lot

He played poorly...it happens. Obviously he knows it, which is why he has stopped playing for such high stakes for now. I bet he'll be back...he didn't get where he is by refusing to change/improve his game.

Does it really matter how DN plays? After all, who are we to criticize his play?
Remember when Phil Mickelson was about to win the US Open this year? He was up a shot on the last hole, and his drive was horrible. For his second shot he decided to try and blast a wood past a bazillion obstacles onto the green. Obviously he fucked it up and lost.As a bogey golfer, I can say for 100% sure that he should have just gotten safely out of the trouble and made sure that he at least got the tie instead of going for a 1/10 shot. It doesn't matter that he's one of the best in the world...he made a tactical error.Just because someone is good at what they do doesn't mean they don't screw up sometimes...and DN has been screwing up on HSP. We're not talking about minor errors that can be attributed to switching up his game...we're talking about horrible preflop play and calling down huge bets with marginal holdings.
