Which brings me to my favorite poker theory that I'll never be able to prove, Doyle brunson was a cheat. Back in the day, when poker was still very illegal, and very much a back room type thing, when doyle was "fadding the white line" there were pretty much two kinds of poker players, Suckers and the wise. The suckers played on teh straight, the wise cheated them. Cheating was rapmpant at the time, johnny moss was infamous for being a cheat, Titanic Thompson was a gambling legand, and an amazing card cheat ( amoungs other things cheat). Are you telling me that Doyle brunson, when he was on the road with Sailor roberts and Slim freaking preston ( the most famous hustler of all time, althought he paled in comparison to Titanic Thompson.. if you ever have the chance to read "the unsinkable titanic thompson, read it)) that he, sailor and slim didn't cheat? They didn't collude? they were sharing a freaking bank roll There's no way at all that I can prove my suspicions, but if I could go to a God Cam, I would bet serious coin that Doyle cheated back in the day. WIth as much publicity as poker gets these days, I'd be shocked if he still did, but back in the day he was trying to survive with a bunch of sharks, some really great poker players who were also really great cheats. You're telling me Doyle was SUCH A great player that he could beat these great poker playign cheats on pure poker skills alone? Plz, sell that story to a tourist. Link to post Share on other sites

The title of this thread isn't "Doyle brunson is a cheat and a no talent hack." I have no doubt that doyle is one of the greatest poker players taht ever lived . However, I think alot of people in the poker business try and white washes poker's seedy past ( much less poker's seedy present ) Part of this white coat is to present Doyle Brunson as this sqeaky clean grand old man, ambasator of the game Doyle is alot of things, but sqeaky clean ain't one of them. He's a tough old *******, and and a hustler, looking for any edge he can get. Man, I wish we could go to god cam. I just find it very hard to believe that brunson, as opposed to basically all his contemporary pro card players, was for some reason more moral and up right than they were, and gave up a HUGE edge to them ( IE Cheating) but because he was SOOOO much better than them, his god given talent won over their cheating ways. Their is proab ly serious cheating going on in live poker too, Russ G cheated hella till he was outted or what ever. Certain things are acceptable at different times in different things. Back in those days, you either cheated or got cheated in those games. I've never said that i thougth doyle was a horrible person or what ever. He did what he had to do to survive and thrive, good for him. I'm just saying don't be naive about it.
