What my buddies and I do is get a box of triscuits, get a thing of salami, ham, turkey, and cheese, and cut everything up and put it on a platter so that they could pick what they want.Obviously, this is a snack, not a meal, but to us poor college kids, it certainly does well. :)But I think if you're wanting more of a meal type of thing, then something like hotdogs are really easy to cook and get out there quickly.

personally i think food should be determined by how much the house is taking. if the house is taking a lot then it should be steaks and stuff like that. if not get hotdogs and hamburgers. or get one of those big things of lasaugna or a big party sub.also i use to play this one home game all the time and there was a 30 minute rule where you had to say you were leaving at least 30 mins in advace. i personally thought this rule sucked. its a cash game if i want to sit down for one hand i should be able to do so

Yes, exactly. Cash game. Come and go as you please. The ONLY rule we have is that if you LEAVE, you have to BRING BACK the exact amount you had sitting in front of you. At a casino the rule is usually 1 hour before you can buy in for less, though. As for what to put out food-wise. First I have to assume you are NOT taking a rake since any self-dealt home game between friends should NOT be raked. We always spend about $20 on various food, cheese, chips, mini-BBQ hotdogs, etc. We usually get $5 or $10 in donations, but sometimes get $40... we are probably "behind" in food expenses, but then again we're also "behind" over $2000 in remodeling expenses for our basement and for tables we built!

If you are raking, there should not be a time set on how long a player has to play or the necessity of informing everyone. It is poker etiquette to do-so anyway but not required. You are making money off them just sitting there so it shouldnt be inforced.Food should be provided based on the players request. Just poll everyone and ask what they want. If you are raking enough to provide food they will tell you what they want. If you AREN'T raking a game then have your cheap-a$$ friends bring their own food. (Seriously, most people are fine with this) I would have someone take turns bringing drinks from week to week though. Make sure you always have drinks. They are cheap and if you rotate who brings them you will never be out. Also in a NON-raked game it is pretty standard to call 1 HOUR before you are leaving. That way players dont find it 'convenient' to break your game by leaving whenever they want. Remember, you are taking no money to run this game and the least they can do is show the courtesy to give you and the other players notice before 'hit and running'. Good luck and my the law not bust your a$$. :club:

I charge a time fee and I "let" people go whenever they want...(They do have to pay the hour they are playing in rounded to the nearest hour...(They play for 1 hr 15 minutes...they pay for 2 hours)As for food....sandwiches is best...no grease, easy cleanup. I also do wraps.

This is how we do mine:we play either .5/.10-.25/.50 no rake and every week we play at someone elses house and whoevers house just supplies some chips, cookies, and like 3-6 bottles of sodaWhen we do big tourneys (2-3 tables) basicallyy everyone brings a bag of chips or bottle of soda and it works out pretty goodas for cash out, since we r playing such low stakes we play for 2 hours before u can cash out, and after that every 15 minutes we have a cash out break to prevent ppl from winning a big pot and cashing out right away. Thats just how we do it and it has become accepted.

Wow, did this post make me feel old. Chips, cookies and soda......priceless. BTW, how do nap time and recess work?

We usually play a sit n go first, money is pulled from the prize pool to pay for the food and drinks. There is no rake charged. As a courtesy, we encourage people to announce one orbit ahead of time when they are going to leave.

Here is how you do it.First play for more $, the levels you play we played when I was 13 and that over 17 years ago.Second, Booze, ask people to bring there own, but have some on supply, drunk people play looser, i have a couple guys in my game who I will get up and make them drinks, they think that I am being their ***** but I am getting their drunk money.Third, food does not need to be planned, usually we each bring our own snacks, if we get hungry we order a pizza or six, its that simple.

I love how people think they're cool cause they play for more money. The stakes that one plays at is all relative. I'd love to see DN come here and tell you to play for more money....cause what you play for is probably what he bets someone to eat a plate of food. Or how about Andy Beal for that matter....

There is a reason to tell someone to play for more money, not just because I think it is too low. When you play at limits that low, nobody cares about the money so the games are just who has the best cards, there is no strategy. We play a 1-2 PL game, where the big winner in a night takes home around 700 800 bucks, and I am beginning to think our limits are too low, becaue you cannot get someone off a marginal hand.So don't go assuming that I am here acting like I am some high roller, there was reason I said what I did.

my game is not much different than yours. were have a $50 min buy-in but its very normal for more than one player to by in for more than around $200+. its a 1-2 NL game, and yes sometimes its hard to get players off marginal hands but the bigger the pot the better it is for me ("the house"... that should sort of answer your questions about rake too)
