Why Casino Az Keeps Jacking Up The Bb Jackpot

Recommended Posts

Maybe this is common knowledge, but I didn't know. So our local casino here has a bad beat jackpot. Lately they've been adding a ton of money to it for no reason in my mind. It was explained to me today by one of the dealers that they have a pool of money that is generated by the tokes for the bb jackpot. (apparently it doesn't all come back out to the players). This pool has gotten so big (more than 1M) that if they don't get it back down under 1M it gets taxed somehow. So thats why they keep adding $50K to the jackpot at totally random times. (It was $78K again this afternoon when I was there).Last year they had that $500K freeroll or something to get rid of the money, but the extra bb tokes it generated because of all the popularity was so much that it minimized the effectiveness of that..Anyway, just interesting for the AZ people...Mark

Well at the Casinos I play at they take 2 rakes. 1 for the house, and 1 for the jackpot, and that JP BadBeat goes solely for bad beats. And about adding that "random" extra money sounds shady to me. Like an inside job type of thing. Strange, very strange.JUST TELL THE DUMBASSES TO STOP TAKING SUCH A BIG RAKE THEN? How much are they dropping for the BB JP? $2? $3? My Casino is only droppipng $1 per pot.

Thats what they do here as well. But every once and a while they 'add' to the bad beat jackpot prize pool. Just lately, they're doing it ALL the time. Just gives some explanation as to why. Odd though, as I thought as well that all of the bb jackpot money went to the bb jackpot. But apparently it doesn't...?Mark

I play at Casino AZ almost every day...... not sure why they added the money but right now without the football pools going strong the place is a little slow so they do it to get more people in there...... 2 weeks ago they hit it for 125k I believe in a 6-12 game.

haha...that's a pretty sick financial situation where you can imagine the casino managers saying, "Quick get rid of the money! We've got to much!" or "There's too much of this sh%@ lying around here, let them have some back."

What the...Who are you people? How do I not know this? Nutzbuster plays out there and we've talked a bunch. I only play the 5/150 game. Come say hello sometime if you see me. You can see my pic on my Cardplayer page, just add glasses to it and I'm almost always in a grey long sleeved shirt there. I'll be there today from probably 2PM to 12AM...Mark

what some casinos do is have mulitple bad beat pots so that if 2 hit in one night the second table still gets good coin...what could be happening is that no one is winning it so they have too many bad beat pots so they start raising up the amountjust my guess anyways

BTW...I just called there (8:50 AM)The jackpot is now $88,000.00Holy Hemorroid Batman!!!
Scott I swear you have that place on speed dial... :)That outfit is the nuts though, I'd love to see you try and pull that off at a table of poker players....hahahaMark
I wish it was less than a 50 minute drive for me. I stick to online instead. I was out there a few weeks ago for a charity tournament though, and the place seemed nice.Ray
Ray, if you're ever out that way, shoot me an email. I'd love to meet you sometime just based on the high quality of all your posts here. Also, limit poker sucks. ;)Mark

Blasphemy! A while back there was a planned AZ Poker outing that either never happened, or I ended up having to miss. I am down with someone trying to set up another one. I think speedz was setting it up the first time, but if I recall right he moved/is moving?I'm so out of touch right now.. :club: But the point is, let's try to set something up. I hear the 5-150 game is juicy. I suck at No Limit, but I'm ok with the occasional donation.Ray

The 5/150 is pretty juicy for sure. Especially now that they moved it out of the 'High Stakes' area up to the front board. All the 3/6 players are getting involved...woo! I'll take this as a to do, to set up a get together. Are people interested in just hitting the casino? We could get together for dinner somewhere and then just play a cash game at someone's house? I'd be glad to host...Mark

I also play at Casino Arizona. I generally just play their tournamnets. I prefer the end of the month ones instead of the Tuesday or Wednesdaytournaments.I haven't seen the 5/150 game offered before. What are the details on the game?Is it offered all the time?

5/150 is going on at all times, 24/7. It used to be on the High Stakes board so maybe it wasn't well known. But it just moved to the normal board.Game is like this: Its a limit game, so all limit rules apply (Like a max of 3 raises). Blinds are $3/$5, and at anytime you can bet/raise from $5 to $150. So it plays a lot like NL. People often get it all in pf. The max buy in is $350.I don't like their tourneys because they take SO MUCH juice out of them. Also another update, I heard they are going to have their $60 daytime tourney all 5 weekdays starting soon.Mark

Anyone who plays at Casino AZ at Talking Stick, look for my buddy Tony. He's a dealer there, and also plays 20/40 and 40/80. He a short, buff Asian dude, looks like a young Jackie Chan w/ longer hair..... Great guy, super entertaining at the tables. He's a damn good player also. He was my mentor when he lived here in Tucson. I make the trek up there to play once in a while... I usually wear my Univ of AZ jersey just to needle the ASU turds..... If you AZ guys are planning any kind of gathering, I'd be interested in coming up if I can make it..... Whoever can organize it, please create a thread if enough guys are interested.......

I'm pretty sure I played with Tony at the tournament last Saturday. He was to my right and we played together for a few hours. It seemed we were always in pots together until Tony busted me in 12th place with his 8-4. :club: His mom was also at the same table.

I know its slightly insensitive, but this cracked me up. Short, buff Asian dude playing poker with his mom at a casino seems so much like a sitcom in the making....Ray
