Tips On Tipping

This weekend I'm headed across the border to Windsor. I'm only 20 so the only place I can play live is Canada.I have plans to play everything the casino offers. 3/6 and 5/10 limit, 1/2 (100 max) and 2/5 (no max) nl.I've never played live so I wanted some advice on tipping at the table. Do you tip after every pot you win or only for the big ones? What portion of the pot do you tip? Advice for each of these 4 games would be appreciated.

Tip whatever you feel comfortable doing.There's a huge thread in general right now about it.I usually tip $1-2/pot depending on the dealer, and how well they are handling the table.There was an interesting idea of tipping each dealer $1 or so each time they got tapped off and replaced, if you feel they have dealt well for the 30 minutes that they were there.GL.- Zach

i believe in windsor, tips are split between everyone, so they don't go directly to a dealer.i like the idea of tossing a buck or something at the end of a well-dealt shift out of courtesy and appreciation. maybe tip a buck for all decent-sized pots also, so the tips add up to something at the end.don't worry about not tipping enough or anything though - a lot of people tip nothing, so they'll appreciate the effort.

A good habit is to just throw every dealer a dollar after a winning pot. If the pot is large, then maybe two bucks is good.I think most dealers nowadays expect a tip every hand and there performance suffers. If they don't follow the action, constantly talk about miscellaneous, or are rude, then I wouldn't go out of my way to toke. In other words, consider stiffing the really bad ones and reward the good professional ones with an extra dollar or two.

I usually tip $1-$3 depending on the size of the pot, occasionally tipping $5 if I make a huge suckout or something. $10 if I suckout for a $2500 pot playing 5/10. According to Jordan, you should tip at least $25-$50 for anything decent though, so who knows.

$25-$50???? Jordan must be a dealer, or your definition of decent is a lot higher than mine. I can see throwing that out when you leave the table with a big score, but on any one hand? nfw

iggy was making a joke.A few days ago in the August goals thread Jordan mentioned that he tipped a dealer $75 after winning a decent pot. Pretty absurd lol.

I once tipped a dealer half the pot. It was an 8-16 game and I needed a gutshot 10 on the river to win the hand. I told the dealer after the turn that if he put up a 10 I would give him half the pot. Sure enough, my miracle 10. There was multi-way action so I believe he dropped more than a c-note down his toke box!

I am in the $1 to $2 per pot camp. I have tipped $5 when I take down a big pot. Generally, I go by what the "norm" seems to be. There was one night when a loud mouth woman who was a dealer at another local casino had been talking about "being in the business". She made a point to make sure that every dealer and player at the table knew she was a dealer and was "in the business". At one point I hit quads and took (for me) a very big pot and was a little shell shocked. As I was stacking my chips, the next hand was being dealt. She made a comment about the fact that I hadn't tipped for the win. Now, I play at this casino weekly and know/respect most of the dealers. I'd been tipping every pot I'd won, including the very small pots, and had every intention of tipping for this pot too... as soon as I was done stacking my chips and my hands stopped shaking from the excitement. Since she had decided to call me out, I said to the dealer: "Her big mouth just cost you a tip for that pot"...then when i folded out of the current hand, I tossed the dealer a red chip and said: "That is because, regardless of her mouth, it is the right thing to do, thanks for running a good table."

Bargers have been known to tip the whole pot to the dealer, it's a tradition now.

In most of the pots I won I tipped atleast $2.Just $1 if I won a pot preflop.That $75 tip came on the tail end of a 9.5 hour session and I was up like $500 at the time so $75 didn't seem like much. Hehe, although I think $25 - $50 woulda been fine. As would probably $10-$15 according to most. But whatever, I used to work in the service industry *waiter* so maybe that's why I tip a little more than average.- Jordan

Are you guys strictly talking casino tipping??There's a huge difference between casino tipping and underground tipping. At a casino though, I tip the same way that I do at a club. Usually playing 5/5 I'll throw 5-7 a hand. I'm a dealer so it's just customary. Especially b/c dealers like to support other dealers. I don't play at casinos alot, b/c it's far and I'm lazy, and I have clubs all around me. If you play at underground games, just remember that we don't get paid, and we only live on tips. Casino dealers get their salary anyways, so I can see that 1-2 bucks is cool, but 4-5 isn't out of the question at an underground club.

Most dealers in AC make a nice amount of money.. most of my friends make anywhere between 60-70k a year. I'm not the best person to weigh in on this topic because I tip a lot better than most people do. Most of my friends deal at the casino I play at and many of the other dealers know me so I tend to tip them much more than I would a regular dealer. I would say that it is best to tip at least a dollar for every pot under $40. I'd say $2-$4 for any pot from $40-$100. Jordan got a little crazy with the $75 tip. The biggest tip I think I ever gave was like $60 and it was in a 2k+ pot.

In what world are dealers deserving of such insane wages?4-5 a hand is ****ing crazy.Ive dealt at an underground club. I appreciate when people tip insane **** like that, but i dont think any less of them when they only tip a buck or two (or even nothing if it's a small pot). There's no reason why you should feel guilty about giving only a buck, or even nothing. If the people dealing have a problem with what they make, they can relocate their asses to flip burgers.
