Would Bill Gates Go To Hell?

Recommended Posts

he's donating like 26billion dollars to charity. if he didnt believe in god would he still go to hell?if you live your whole life helping people and being a good person, following all of jesus's teachings, but you dont believe in god are you going to hell? would god send someone who denies him to hell even though their entire life was devoted to being a good person? say they were a firefighter or peace corp worker, or soup kitchen director. everything they did was good, they just don't belive in god. i want to hear opinions from believers and non believers.

I'm no religious scholar, but I do believe Christianity teaches that you have to accept Jesus Christ as your savior to go to heaven.I could be wrong

You're not wrong. Some jackasses really think that the best person on earth would go to hell if they didn't accept JC.

I was trying to respect their forum, even though my true feelings on this subject kind of "differ" from theirs.

I think it's a wording issue. You could also say How can a poor person get to heaven, when Bill Gates can buy his way in.I want to win the lottery, I'm a good person, and I would help people if I win. BUT I don't want to have to buy a ticket. I think that is a stupid rule. The lottery people are evil for not letting me win just because I didn't follow their stupid close-minded rules.

Love thinking about this one, cause it really puts spiritual pride into perspective, because it's not for us to judge, who am I to say yes or no? All we can worry about is sharing what we've experienced with God and what our priorities are... Anyone that claims to be a Christian that can say definitively "No" that person (whether it's Bill Gates or not) is going to hell, needs a priority check cause they do not have the authority to judge...

I got to say this has one big fallicy to it. The question seems to assume that he should get in just because he donated 26 billion. Why can't other areas of his life (for instance the question of ethical buisness practices) be called into judgement. Also does anyone remember the story that in the temple there are people who put money into a collection box. A poor widow puts in all she has which is 2 coins. Jesus then says "I assure you this poor widow has given more than all the rest of them. For they have given a tiny part of their surplus, but she, poor as she is, has given everything she has"I think the story shows just giving to charity is not in and of itself enough.

A: The OP said also followed the teachings of Jesus...B: I've met two men who have served jail time for multiple murders and are now touring and speaking/"witnessing" to youth etc meh, I'm not a huge fan of evangelism but I think it shows a point... about what's in the past etc...You can call areas of someones life into judgement, but what I'm saying is you can't judge what the outcome of their lives will be... If you want to judge people become a judge and put them in prison all you want, but to say that you can judge whether someone is going to hell is garbage.

I don't know if he'll go to heaven or hell or not. I know nothing about his private/spiritual life.Regardless, I'll dance on his grave when he does kick the bucket.
Not a real XP fan?

I like Ron's approach- a little rspect would be nice. And, call me a jackass but unless you accept Christ as the Son of God you cannot enter. Bill Gates salvation is between him and God, I cannot say. Here is a scripture for you=Matt.7[17] Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.[18] A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.[19] Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.[20] Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.[21] Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.[22] Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?[23] And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. It's basically saying do as I say, or else.

Want the cushy answer or the tough answer? The bible speaks to some absolutes. Only 2 options are available according to it in regards to eternity. "if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, then you shall be saved." If you don't, you won't, at least according to the Bible.

Yup. Believe in Jesus or go to Hell. It's not a hard concept, I'm surprised we have so many questions about, "would so and so go to hell even if they so and so..." Yes, they go to hell, directly to hell, do not pass go, etc.Jesus gave very few orders: believe in him, perform communion, and give all your money to the poor. If you only do the last one, you go to hell. Don’t look at me like that, I didn’t come up with/ buy into any of this (except for the giving your money to the poor part).

What were the requirements for Heaven before Jesus was born? What were the requirements for Heaven before Jesus was born?
This is very debatable in Christian circles. I go to a Christian college and we haven't covered this in detail yet, but the nutshell answer was if you believed in the God of the Old Testament and followed the laws in Leviticus and other old testament books, you were sent to a "holding place" where you waited until Jesus died and rose, and then you entered Heaven. I think this is were the idea of Purgatory started.

I take it you don't mean Jesus because of course the Jewish religion doesn't believe in him as the messiah. Here is a page that will helphttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jewish_eschat...d_to_come.22.29

I don't see where I mentioned Jews in my post. But, if you were dead and in the "holding place" that I spoke of, you really couldn't reject him as Messiah. You lived your life and were waiting for the Messiah, so when Jesus came, I don't think God asked the dead folks, "ok there's my kid, do you think he's the messiah or not?" No, they knew he was. Only living Jews could reject Jesus when he came into the world.

Its just that it was mentioned the idea of heaven and what came before Jesus, it would have to be a look at the jewish religion. I mean of course there are many different religions all having their different belief of afterlife. I didn't think we wanted every religious version and variation of afterlife before Jesus.I don't believe the Jews belief in conversion, so there would be very few who believed in the Old Testiment who were not Jewish.

Old Testament law. If you kept the law, when you diied you entered into paradise, just as we do now if we follow God's word. Here is a scripture that illustrates that:Luke.1622] And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;[23] And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.[24] And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.[25] But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.[26] And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.[27] Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house:[28] For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.[29] Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.[30] And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.[31] And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead. That's also a good scripture to quote when somebody asks why God doesn't make physical appearances anymore. Here's another scripture:Luke.2342] And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.[43] And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.

Wow, these actually are verses I recognize, that made their way into the Catholic rotation...

Uugh... to put this in a "nutshell" answer turns my stomach...Also that's not the general consensus on the issue, a more common concept is the one of OT Sacrifice, and Sacrificial Law... which to me is some weird stuff... but basically this was the origins of Religion in a pure sense... then we messed it all up, and when Jesus came, he changed the law and took on the role of the sacrifice... So basically before Jesus, you got to heaven by following rules... Jesus changed that drastically...
