mtdesmoines 3
Short answer: I'd rather call here with 87soooooooooooted than a likely dead pair.Seriously, man. With five all-ins, I have to be thinking that a ton of high cards are held in hands. With limited information, suited middle connectors actually start to look REALLY GOOD to the loose/aggressive side of me with 5 all ins ahead of me. (seems like you make more money with bad calls than good ones, if that makes sense.)Eerily similar, I made a call in an online tourney a couple months ago with 4 all-ins ahead of me about ten hands into a 300 player tourney. Of course, I had AJ suited. Villians were holding AA, KK, 10, 10 and I don't recall. Flop comes J-J-garbage, and my trips held up. Instant ticket to the final table. Of course, that was also the final table where I came in as chip leader, and busted out in 7th, because I had KK cracked by dominated hands THREE TIMES ... (yeah, I got 'em three times in about 50 hands) but that's another thread (see "folding AA" or some such thread.)Poker ... it's a messed up game.

Zeatrix 0
Well guys calling with queens here is a long term winning play. As he said he was getting 5:1 and queens have an estimated 4:1 odds of winning in that situation. Hitting a set is 20% over five cards and that is 4:1.So yeah, unless you care more about going deep than winning the tournament you should call and pick up five guys chips about 20% of the time... Pot odds versus knowing your beat versus picking a better spot. The long and short of it, from what I've figured and discussed with other people, is that if I feel like I'm a much better player than the rest of the table, I fold for a better spot. If I feel like my advantage is marginal or non-existant, I call.

If I feel like my advantage is marginal or non-existant, I call.Yes, my point is strictly mathematical. I remember DN talking about this issue in a blog a long time ago, where he basicly said that if he had a 51% advantage he would go all in or call all in against one opponent regardless if it was early in the main event or not, and my point is an application of his views. If I think I have a 55% advantage over the rest of the table, I'm going to push that edge--pure skill--as opposed to pushing a 51% edge where I'm likely dominated, simply because of pot odds. If you do hit your set agains 5 other hands (and i think you're about 18%, not 20), you could still lose any number of ways.
