Ca State Poker Championships @ The Commerce Casino

Recommended Posts

I was looking for some big tournaments to play. The 'Legends of Poker' is going on right now at the bike but the buy-ins are pricey since they are towards end of the events. The 'LA Poker Classic' isn't until jan-feb.the CA State championships has a few $300 buy in events. Right now, i'm def. playing September 15th ($300 events with $10k added to the prize pool)link to poker events:http://commercecasino.com/tournamentDetail...?tournamentId=4im just curious too see if anyone is planning to play in any of the events so maybe we can play in the same one or whateverso one is playing these events?

Make sure if you're going to commerce you head down early and get yourself a Tournament players card. It'll save you a lot of hassle when you're buying into the event. Oh, and I plan on playing maybe one of their 300 events, or try and satelliting into the ME.

Out of curiousity, does the tournament players card have benefits (like other casino cards) or is it just for easier registration?

Honestly, I have no idea. All I know is they require that you have one before you play in any tourney with them.

  • 2 weeks later...
do you know what the satellite structure will be for the ME? Single table?
Last night at Commerce I won my second $40 satellite (the 1st one I sold my tourney chips) for tonight's $330 NL event. At one point they had 8 different satellites going at one time a $40 a $120 and a $280 I believe. The $40 they start you with 500 in chips 15 minute blinds and 10 players. The $120 they give you 1k in starting chips and I'm pretty sure it's 15 or 20 minute blinds. I'm not 100% certain about the $330 but I'll find out tonight.Tonight's tourney should have a pretty good turn out considering the past few "low" buy-in events at the Bike had HUGE fields.*edited* to correct the ME regular satellite buy-in amount*

I won't be playing it because I dislike Commerce tournaments. They are have payouts that are top too heavy. I remember playing in the $300 event in the LA Poker Classic back in January, there were about 1200 entries and only paid something like 50 places (not even top 5%). It's great of course if you go on to win the tourney. Plus I don't like the blind structures, not enough chips and the blinds go up too fast.

I'd heard that this tournament was great because it was filled with a fair amount of below average players, the levels and buy ins were reasonable, and as far as overall bang for your buck they are pretty good. That was from Steve7, so I assume he knows what he's talking about. I prefer more top heavy payout structures personally. Also, I think I'm pretty much confirmed and will be coming out and playing all the NL tourneys the final week. Hope to see some of you out there.Mark

Well, I went to Commerce today to play the NL cash games and my buddy who had registered for the $330 tourney showed me the blind structure. I was pretty impressed by it so I ended up playing in it. 671 players, I finished around 100th place. Steve7 is right, it is a pretty good tourney. I'm pretty sure I'll play in the $330 again this Thursday.
