1. Watch the EyesThis is why many pros wear sunglasses or visors/caps when playing, they know that the eyes rarely lie. For example, many players can't help but stare at big hole cards, so their length of time peeking is longer. Conversely, if a player is looking to steal the pot, he may look to his left to see if the remaining players, who haven't yet acted, have quickly glanced at their cards and are likely to fold. Another example, a player may try to ask you questions about your hand, knowing that people rarely can "look someone straight in the eyes" while being dishonest.2. Facial ExpressionAgain, many pros try to disguise their entire face by wearing a cap and looking downward. This is to avoid the classic stare-down that poker pros are famous for. They may try to study your face for nervousness (detecting a weak hand), or even look for repetitive characteristics like a body "tic". You may have obvious unhappiness in your face when your hand is weak, and conversely, you may show a contrasting show of confidence when your hand is strong.3. Weak is Strong/Strong is WeakIn its most simplistic form, this usually applies to novice players but frequently applies to pros as well. Basically, players like to be actors, and when they have a monster hand they tend to look disinterested. For example: "Oh, is it my turn to act" or "Oh I guess I will play these cards". Alternatively, a player increasing the level of his voice while raising the pot, and trying to look intimidating.. may be running a bluff.4. AnxietyAnxiety typically occurs in people when they are confronted, or anticipating confrontation. Psychologists call this the "Fight or Flight" stimulus response, which links back to the days when we were cavemen/cavewomen. Physical changes happen including flexing of muscles, eye pupil dilation, palpitating heart rate, dry throat. In poker, when someone has a big hand they are typically ready for confrontation and can exhibit some of these characteristics. You may see the chest expanding abnormally, or you may notice the players voice become slightly higher as he makes a comment. Some of the top players in the game will stare at the vein on the top-side of your face for blood pressure changes. During a bluff, the player may demonstrate anxiety, but if he knows he will fold the hand if re-raised (non-confrontational end) may look quite comfortable.5. Trembling HandsAlso, a byproduct of anxiety, beware of a player whose hands are shaking, this nervousness can represent a big hand.6. Glance at ChipsAgain, relating to the eyes. It is common for players to quickly glance at their chips if they connect with the board after a Flop. This may be a subconscious reaction, but the player is already planning his attack.7. Peeking Hole Cards on FlopSome players will take another look at their hole cards when, for example, the board is showing a potential 3 card flush draw. Typically, the player is looking to see if one of his cards is connecting, because he remembers only that the two cards are different suits.8. Repetitive Betting PatternsUsually the most revealing tells are based on the way a player habitually bets during particular situations. For example, maybe the player always checks when he has made the nuts, or a player may regularly fold after being re-raised.9. Body Posture/AttitudeSome players show obvious changes in their posture based on their attitude/hand strength. For instance, you may notice their shoulders drop/slump when they are not confident (weak hand). Conversely, you may notice the player is very attentive and sitting in an erect position when he has strength. You may also notice that a player who bluffs a lot, leans forward in a confrontational way... remember Strong is Weak!10. Chip StackingWhen you first sit down at a table, study the way the players stack their chips. Although it is a generalization, loose aggressive players typically maintain unorganized/sloppy stacks, while tight conservative players keep well organized/neat stacks.

The Two Most reliable tells Ive found are shaking hands and the staredown. Beware of the staredown though you need another strong is weak tell to use that one, such as punding chips in the pot, and generally acting like hes got a big hand. With the staredown most donkeys these days will just stare you down for the hell of it just becuase it looks cool

Look at the denominations of chips they bet with. They are generally consistent in their use of big chips and small chips. Typically, they bluff with lots of small chips and value bet with a few big chips, although some people do the opposite (because they always want a large number of chips in front of them).

A couple of weeks ago i played a pot against an aggressive player i'd never come across before. Holding KK on a board of TT266, i wasn't too confident in calling his $200 bet on the river, until he tried to start whistling, and it came out all squeaky and strained. Had he sat there quietly, i would probably have laid the hand down.

I ve played a ton of live poker for the last 3-4 years and there are a few tells i think could really help you that the average player may exhibit. 1. When players frequently play with their chips or are switching their cards from top to bottom a lot and during a hand all of their motion stops 90% of the time they are bluffing.2. When players continually stare at the flop after it has been dealt means they are generally trying to figure out how they can win and are weak. 3. The forced smile. When a player makes a bet at a pot and is trying to play it like he has a good hand and is talking and trying to seem very happy, look to see if his smile is genuine. When people try and force it you will be able to tell or at least i can. Anyways they are weak.4. The stare down as written about previously has now become about a 50-50 and i dont believe is very reliable unless it is against a very new player to the game. A lot of bad players even relatively new to the game know about this one tell and will try and trick you try and see a show down after he does this to check its accuracy against each opp.5. In most casino the lighting is decent enough to see a persons throat. If you can see a pulse right below the adams apple 80% of the time they have the nuts and cant wait to get the money in or get called.6. Another throat tell. Watch after the flop, turn or river come out if your opponent gulps 80 percent of the time he has hit huge and you should get out of the way. Same thing for a cracking voice.7. When someone is trying to read you should tell you right away that they are weak. They are looking for an excuse to call because the pot is not offering good odds and his hand is weak. Don't be afraid to stick it in with nothing.8. Overly anxious bets. Bets that come out without hesitation from bad players will 70% of the time be a bluff so if the pot is a decent size go after it.9. If you see someone during a hand counting the pot has a draw or weak draw and you should bet accordingly.10.The no look bet. A bet fallowed by the bettor looking anywhere but the people left in the pot. Monster get out.11. Long pause before bet. Generally the player is thinking about risk to reward for his bluff and if the players left in the pot will actually fold. In limit i like to check raise this bettor from early pos and lead out on turn 75% of the time they will fold. Hopefully this helps if i can think of anymore ill post.I also forgot. For all of the tells listed above where the player has a monster. These are what HE considers a monster and can sometimes just be top pair so try and catch a showdown so when you throw bottom two away you can do so in confidence.

I have this one tell that I think a couple of people have picked up on, so I'm trying to get rid of it. If I hit a monster hand I will jump up from my seat and yell "whoo hoo!", and then realize my mistake and quickly sit down and say "I mean, um, I guess I'll stay in this hand." If you see me do that, it may mean I have a good hand.

Fish tells?Usually they just sit there...staring and staring....and they never blink! Then, without warning they'll just dart about and then stop...and then just start staring again! and THEN, they'll just suddenly blow a bubble and wiggle their little fins. It's the weirdest thing. And they suck at cards. :club:

watch players eyes when the flop is put out. Best and most consistent tell. Staring=nothing to be worried aboutglance then look away=hit board, CAUTION!

I will ask them questions. The following example actually happened to me.1) 1 2 nl. Fish sits down with 200 bucks. He's drunk as hell so I know he's not going to play optimally plus he's constantly talking giving away info. On a final board where I have 2 pair and there is a flush possibility on the river, he bets out pot size about 115 bucks putting me in a difficult situation now. So I ask him "Do you have a flush?". He looks at the board and saids " How many hearts are there?". I say "three". He thinks for a while and saids "Yah, I have a flush." Due to his hesitation and the fact that he had to check the board, I knew he was bluffing. I called and then he said "Good call, how did you know?". He showed Ak off for ace high.

I was playing $2/$4 linit at the Luxor. This guy sits to my left and folds preflop 3 r 4 hands in a row. The BB comes to him and there were no raises in front of him and he was about to see a free flop, but.....wait for it....he folds. But thats not the best....A few hands later he actually calls and sees the flop. I had folded before him so he leans to me and asks if an Ace can be both high and low to make a straight. I assume he meant A2345.. 10JQKA...so it told him yes. Showdown comes and he reveals his straight....wait for it...KA234.....I love playing at the ultimate kiddie table of poker.
