A 13 Year Old Just Cost Me $10000

Recommended Posts

While I sympathize with you, you have no one else to blame but yourself. How could you let your niece or nephews log on to your computer using your login?I mean create a guest account and let them use that one, not your own account, you are being too reckless with your own computer.Plus they have internet access as well? If not for the PP fiasco I am sure he was surfing the net looking for porn anyways. As I said you have no one to blame but yourself. Let this be a lesson for you. As for the kid, ban him from your home for good.

I thought everyone had a 13 year old friend that regularly plays 100/200.SWDo you guys honestly think he was chip dumping at 100/200?I can imagine the phone call. "Hey Brian, I need you to deposit $10,000 right now on PartyPoker. We will play 6-handed against other pros while I slowly call all my chips with 9 high flush draws, hopefully miss them, therefore dumping them to you, since the pros will not have anything. Alright, I'll see you online in 5 minutes."

Take anything in his sole posession and sell it. TV, video games, dvd's, name brand clothes, etc. Leave him the basics. Make sure nobody replaces it for him. Don't take anything that anyone else shares with him or anything his parents will be obligated to replace for him or anyone else.Make him understand that what you took from his is a fraction of what he owes you. Make him understand how much he cost himself on a bad choice. Have him work off the rest and hope he learns some respect while he does it.
I like this idea a lot.Sell his shit!!

LOLOL. Anyway Tally, on the bright side, it doesn't really affect your BR. If you had like a 15K BR, then you'd have something to worry about. Be happy that you'll be able to make it all back in relatively short order. On the other hand, you should definitely try to make this kid pay you the money back, even if it takes months just for the principle of the thing. A semi-close relative should not be able to just get away with taking 10K.Oh, and finally, you really need to password protect your account. I know I felt insecure just because my password was something easily guessable, so I changed it to include numbers the first time my account passed 10K. Obviously, it's way, way more the kids fault then yours, but you can't just leave that kind of money out where anyone can get at it.

Sell his stuff and take the money. Make him work off the rest at a crappy fast-food place for minimum wage (i.e. less than $8 an hour). As much as I'm happy that your brother-in-law wants to help, you can't really know that the kid will be busting his hump with daddy around. They haven't been parenting him so far if he still acts this way.And please, please, please post some HH's. I could use a good laugh.

Man, what a horror story! Some of the posts are (admittedly) hilarious, but $10,000 US is a lot of money.Take another $500 and get a recommendation from a good lawyer. The lawyer will have better information for you because although it sounds simple, it is horribly complex. You may have a reasonable argument that the sum tranferred was so large it should have been flagged and you should have been contacted.Banks deal with identity theft and unauthorised accessing of peoples accounts all the time. They should give you your $10,000 back because it was an unauthorised withdrawl. They will certainly go after the kid if they give you your $10,000 back.Once they realize he is 13, going after his parents should be something any decent lawyer can fight. Lend your sister some money to hire a good lawyer. Be warned, that lawyer may elect to sue you. Sounds like fun, right? :club: The kid will probably get a slap on the wrist if there is no prior arrest record. The bank may even elect to do nothing since it involves an offshore gambling site. $10,000 is a lot, so it is equally possible the kid is in for some serious pain from the legal system. So we are agreed: This is a grade A cluster, so have a good chat with a good lawyer.Certainly a stiff letter from your lawyer to your bank will get attention. It may allow you to come to a settlement where they give you back half (part of which you will use to pay legal bills .... :D ) and the bank keeps half as liquidated damages, and agree to leave your nephew alone.Personally, I feel that if large transactions of $10,000 are unusual in your account, the bank should have waited to contact you.As for your nephew, it is not my place to suggest what you and your family decide to do, to ensure he learns from this debacle. Some very serious hard yard labour and loss of priviledges sounds like a good start IMHO.Please take the following paragraph humerously ... That said, once the kid has learned his lesson, teach him to play poker properly. Let him know that in the next 30 years, $10,000 plus interest (compounded) comes off any WPT win he makes :D .

Good luck with that :club: Go to an insurance company and tell them your car was stolen after you drove it to the bad part of town, unlocked all the doors, and left the keys in the ignition. Let's see if they pay you.

Tally....not to be mean to your sister and brother in law, but clearly this kid needs to learn another lesson. The camp obviously wasn't hard enough on him. Call BOA and submit a claim with the bank fraud dept. You'll get your money back. Let them press charges if they want. You don't have to call the police on him yourself, but BOA probably will. It sounds like some time in juvie might be in order.

sounds like the kid is right on pace to be a star for your florida state football team :Pseriously though, that blows, i'd contact the bank fraud dept and let the bank do whatever they'd do to him. he needs to learn a lesson.

Here's my math, and we're going on street value here.1g = $51oz (28g) = $140, but goes for $100 on the street if you buy it at once1lb (16oz) = $1600, but goes for $1200 if you buy wholesaleSo $10,000/$1,200 is like 8lbs. I'd make him give me $15,000 though.
Thats some dirt weed.

I don't what I'd do. I might allow centrifugal force to do my bidding...
:club::D:D oh... by the way... it's centripital force to you, centrifugal force to him, and entertainment for us.

A laughable claim, perpetuated by overzealous teachers of science. Simply construct Newton's law in a rotating system and you will see a centrifugal force term appear as plain as day.

Yeah, I'd be pissed. To be fair, though... something similar happened when I was the 13 year old...My dad used to play the stock market, and we had talked about buying a certain stock. He left for Las Vegas (not poker related) for the week, and since I was a pathetic lifeform I faked sick from school (almost all week).Anyway, like an idiot I bought the stock because when you're 13 you don't think anything bad will happen to you. On the day I lost 3k, then won back 7.5k.Although I made him 4.5k, I still got the ***-whipping of my life, deservedly. The moral of the story: The world would be a better place without 13 year olds!
