K_dense 3 Posted August 4, 2006 Share Posted August 4, 2006 I would like some opinions on pro's and con's of Teamsters.Some quick background - I work for a sub contractor for a Procter & Gamble plant. Our contract is to manage all raw material and finished product , supply all the diaper / paper towel / tissue paper lines. 80% of our contract is driving lift trucks. Management is trying to head this off before it gets to a vote. (video's, meetings)Workers are running blindly towards the union rep thinking of all the riches to be had.I only have one question but would still like to hear views.Since we are working at a P&G plant, and they do not want union in their workplace, can they severe the current contract with my company with two years still left? Almost every day I have one or another calling me to tell on one of their "brothers".I have no problems with unions in general as long as their run correctly. I once had an employee call up and say he wasn't coming in to work that day because he was taking his child to the Dr. He was told to bring a dr's excuse. He said he would. Two days later when he reported he was asked for the note. He said he didn't have one and was never asked to bring one.So during the grievance meeting he was asked about it. He swore he was never asked to bring one therefore didn't say he'd bring one in. So the manager pulled a tape from the voice recordation machine out where the driver point blank said he would bring a note in. After hearing the lie from the dr the union rep said "well maybe he was talking about that other situation from a few weeks ago". In other words the union lost a lot in my mind then. If the employee is right or even borderline right then (IMHO) the union should fight til the finish. When they're completely wrong they should tell their "brother" he/she was in the wrong and go on with life. That way they would gain some credibility with mgmt.I've had some awesome employees call me up and tell me str8 up they think the company was wrong in a borderline deal. Because they hadn't BS'd me before, I instantly gave him the benefit of the doubt. I've also been on a side when I wished I was part of a unioin. When I was a black jack dealer at Sam's Town and was on the "extra board" for 8 months. Wishing I had insurance for my family. Being told I'd be on it for no more than 6 months. Then right when I (think) am getting close they take 30+ full timers and FORCE them to go back to the extra board. But I beleive right is right. If I make a mistake as a manager I truly do anything I can to make it right. Some times that's an apology sometimes it's that and adding time to their paycheck. But I expect someone to do me "right" in return. Unfortunatly I don't usually get that. Link to post Share on other sites
