I always love how he manages to repeat what everyone else in the thread says, and then give a personal story; as though he actually did something like this.

Years ago, I played monopoly all of the time on the computer. I got pretty good. Then, one thanksgiving, we went to a friends house. My ex, my friend, her husband and I played monolpoly. I cleaned house. The sad thing is that I wound up making my friend cry. I was playing by real monopoly rules, with betting, etc and I was so aggressive. I really haven't played the game since but it would be cool if they added monopoly to a casino. I would definately play. Good job Daniel on your win. :club:

That's a great idea. Who gets to be banker, though? Banker has to pony up the goods, but collects for all the hotels and stuff.Theresa, you so crazy!

Actually, Monopoly is not all luck. Yes, there is a heavy luck factor because of the dice rolling, but just do some research on Monopoly strategy. You will see that if you mange to own property with high landing frequency (either acquired through self-purchase or trade) you will be better off. So, having that knowledge helps. Also, there are strategies that are tactical, such as deliberately causing housing shortages, to prevent someone else improving their property. Since there are only 32 houses and 12 hotels, if there aren't enough houses for you to get to the hotel stage, you cannot build the hotel, even if you can afford it. Another key thing is, after the Chance and Community Chests cards are shuffled from the start of the game, the order always stays the same and you can memorize what they are. So, with that knowledge you will know if it was worth it to pay to get out of jail or use your card and try to land on the spot to get another one. I used to follow the Parker Brothers Monopoly tournaments and a lot of those participants really know what they are doing. That was years ago though, so I don't know if they still have them, but I remember one of the prizes the winner would get is a Monopoly set filled with real money, which if I remember correctly is $15,140.I used to be really good at it and beat my friends most of the time, so if I can beat them consistently, then they must be some skill factor to it.

I'm curious about the properties with high landing frequency. Do you mean the ones with cards, like St. Charles, Illinois and Boardwalk, or are there others? It seems that the likelihood of all other properties being landed on should be equal.

most often landed on properties: tennessee ave, st james place (6&8 from jail, which is the most often landed on space), then new york ave. the other colors, in order: green, yellow, red, light blue, dark blue, purple.there is a LOT of skill in monopoly.for instance, get 3 houses on all your properties before getting 4 on any of them, because the biggest rent/development jump happens b/w 2-3 houses. you can also make trades, which takes a lot of skill.if you can't tell, monopoly is my favorite board game. i will pwn you all. :club:

the properties that are landed on most are the orange set (6, 8 and 9 spaces away from jail). The reasoning behind that is because eveny square has equal chance of being landed on *but* there are 2 chance/community chest cards which advance people to squares in the 2 sets before the oranges and if people just get out of jail they're very close too. There is also the card that sends you back to the square just after go.I'm not sure what the second most landed on set is but I reckon its prolly either the reds purples or light blues - but thats all guess work from them being the ones around the orange sets...also its more efficiant to own the light blues/purples to the reds cause you can get hotels onto em faster...but that being said, if you own the oranges and have enough cash to start developing them, then you need to get unlucky not to win the game...-Nic

well while you can't really *try* to land on either the chance or community chest cards, you can predict what cards are comming up in both piles if the game has been going on for a while simply due to the fact that the 2 decks are not shuffled once the game has started.-Nic

Okay, the card example I gave you wasn't the best of one. So, here's another example. You've seen 15 Chance Cards and no one has drawn the Advance to Boardwalk, you own the Dark Blue property. Now would be a good time to invest in some housing there. The same reasoning can be ame for the Dark Purple for the St. Charles or Red for Illinois Ave. Or if you haven't seen the housing repair Card yet, don't buy too many more houses until it gets drawn. As far as high frequency sets, it is mostly the Orange and Red if I remember correctly. Also, if you manage do get most of the RailRoads, it is a good source of income, especially if you have them all.

he's saying that when you use a community chest or chance card, you put it back on the bottom, or start a pile next to it, but when they run out, they don't get reshuffled so you can remember the order. I always reshuffle them, is this something that is covered in the offical Monopoly rules?

Ys, this strategy was actually used in an Official Tournament in the past. Well, it wasn't so much as a strategy as the guy who ending up winning knew what happened. His opponent drew the card left that they both knew were next since they already figured out the order of the cards. His opponent picked up the card to read and confirm it. The winner had a big smile on his face as he knew he just won since that card made his opponent land on his property and go broke. As you can tell, I use to big a big Monopoly fan. I never got to participate in an Official Tournament, though. :club: They were always out of state and I was just a young teenager then.Maybe Daniel can host a private Monopoly tournament, and have a bounty on him for one of us to bust him...hahahaha.

strange coincidence. i just heard on the radio this morning that you are mathematically more likely to land on illinois avenue than any other space.
