The Official Dn Isn't Playing Anymore Tournaments Thread

Recommended Posts

Honestly I agree with what you are saying but the fact that the Main Event has always been open to all players, if there was a "qualification" then I believe it wouldn't be the same. I do agree that yes it was a way bigger accomplishment for Matusow to navigate the fields than it was for Kanter. What i was bringing up was that if you as a pro player make it through the field of donkeys, then it is awesome. Now if they did change the format then it would play out like the HORSE event where one of the best cash game players took it down and it was through a field of mostly professional players. and that whole tourney would be fun to watch. I personally like the fact that anyone can enter the game. I guess any one can play cash games with the pros given enough money so now that i've talked in circles let's go for it.*NEW TOURNEY ANNOUNCED* *ALL PROS COME FOR THE FREEROLL COMPETITION WITH 10 MILLION DOLLARS BEING PUT UP BY BUDWEISER*When will we see that is the real question
True, but im not saying that it would be closed to amateurs just that EVERYONE would have to qualify. It doesnt take anything away from people...I mean it would just be a single structured satellite system of sorts. Anyone can enter qualifiers and they would have varying buyins but you would eventually get down to a field of 1000+ players that have done something besides lay down moneyt up front to compete. Im talking only about the WSOP mind you, this is what would make it more prestigious.

Well, from what we know of DN did not enter the pot limit omaha event today. While I understand he is trying to make a point that this is messed up do you think that this is in a way hurting him? He is giving up opportunities to win these prestigious bracelets and a lot of cash. Since he is having a decent World Series I'm in shock that he is not trying to capture one of these. Maybe they don't mean as much to him as I thought they did.
That is a joke of a post. Its the third most important thing in his life. Family 1st Pride 2nd bracelets 3rd. His pride is on the line here, he doesnt want to be neglected again for this assholes ****ing up at the wsop. Its the WSOP for a reason and these floor people r a joke. Next year as Daniel has said will be much better as players will have a say. My guess is he got his money back, but just wanted to cool down and will play tommorrow. We'll find out in his next blog of what exactly is going on.

Curious, did they change the PLO rebuy, freezeout, rebuy again BACK to freezeout...cuz pokerwire appears to be showing that, and so does a few of the PLO debates i've seen.
There are two seperate 1500 PLO events ...one rebuy one FO. brilliant scheduling once again...lol

With a monopoly on this, it is inevitable something else will come along and give it competition. We all know Harrah's is the "wal-mart" of gaming, with this much unhappiness either they'll realize they have to change or they will lose a TON of business.

I just noticed now on pokerwire....WSOP event 300.....PLO with rebuys....first post, 4 player all in blind....i see the pros are taking "event 300" very seriously, and they have not yet declared whether or not a bracelet will be included in the evnt... also, does anyone remember when DN said in the video diary that he didn't believe rebuy events should be included in the wsop...curious on his take of that.

hows that? there is no bigger tournament than the wsop, even if any big tourney sprouted up in order to compete, it still wouldnt hold a candle to the wsop in terms of prestige and cash..

I've read elsewhere that event "300" will also be a bracelet event.

i respect what you are saying, but to say that a braclet won today is as prestegious as one that was won 4 -5 years ago is imho not true..shrug ..difffrent strokes i guess...i like what daniel is doing, but im afraid it wont lead to much this thing is too big a cash cow for them to care about a handful of upset players...
yep joe public wants holdem, and the rio is glad to fill all those seats.it's sad, but they probably don't care TOO much if some pros are unhappy, the WSOP would still go on. :club:

I was in Las Vegas last week to see the layout, hang out, watch Carlos Mortenson and David Benyamin bust out loose players ad nauseum, etc.DN has enough on his mind without having ANOTHER random player asking for an autograph. The WSOP has really grown which makes sense, ...poker has grown. The WSOP has new owners and they have to learn the hard way, by making mistakes and fixing them. The conditions are a real improvement. I remember the WSOP when it was in the second floor of Binions in downtown Las Vegas. There was so much smoke up there a fire could break out and noone would notice. It was crowded and loud.It was also smaller and easier to run.Today the WSOP has to be run like a military operation and mistakes get magnified. The top guys will understand the situation and side with the players, count on it.There is no reason to believe that HARRAHS will not address and fix every one of Daniel's points. They know he is serious and is absolutely right. Aside from that, what Daniel says has clout. They just need time to make it right. There was a post about DN forgoing the presige and the money. Well, I am glad that the FCP forum is open enough that we can also allow dissent without flaming a poster. Sure there are more bracelettes, but there are also more people playing. Maybe a hundred times more people are playing in tournaments, yet the numbers of bracelettes have gone up by two.The value of the "WSOP hardware around the wrist" is HARRAHS to build or lose. Remember their WSOP Circuit tournaments where they have WSOP rings, as a separate build on the WSOP franchise. They could have just given out bracelettes for those events, but they chose to maintain the integrity of the actual WSOP event in Las Vegas. They know the value of bracelettes and want to keep it to grow the event. For pros like DN, the poker equation is more complicated because they know so much about poker events, poker the game, and the history of poker. A random floor person, who may have zero real poker tournament experience, or minimal experience, decides to innovate under pressure, all hell breaks loose. Pros have a lot to deal with, in addition to the actual play, and a major screwup can send a stressed pro into orbit.HARRAHS is clueless but at least they are smart enough to recognize this and to ask questions, with the idea of following good advice from the top players that have integrity. They have a player's council and have made a very public and very direct statement that they are going to work things out with the top players. When the Main Event logs in with over 10,000 players (my prediction), it will be a total zoo.As for Daniel playing events or not playing events: It is of course his call. There is such a thing as principle and until the shootout snafu is sorted to everyone's satisfaction, it is totally correct for DN to take a stand.I predict that HARRAHS will fix it to DN satisfaction and the satisfaction of everyone concerned.

Growing pains, everyone has their point, and eventually a medium will be reached. Until then I hope Dn goes and plays, it's going to be 11 months before he can get another bracelet, and I guarentee you that if Phil Helmuth wins number 10, he aint going to have no astericks next to it.Harrahs is forced to change gears as the unexpected happens, i.e. event 17 having 2800 players when last year it had 600?Hopefully the players advisory board will be better listened too, and they invest the time that this event needs. Otherwise I will miss Norman Chad and Lon McEron

I mean if enough big name pros get pissed enough and skip the event, it will lose its prestige. Just because it has the name WSOP trademarked doesn't mean it is invincible. With big name players who everyone looks up to saying how bad the wsop is, Harrah's will lose a ton of money through all the products, tv shows, etc. that it licenses because no one will care about it. There are many casinos in Vegas, many financial backers, and a lot of interest would result in top name players creating a separate tournament and bad mouthing the wsop. All this said, it's not like the wsop is in shambles and beyond fixing. Harrah's will eventually figure out how much they have at stake (hopefully) and eventually fix things.

IMO the M.E. has already come and gone with the H.O.R.S.E.most poker player i mean real player like the ones that know all the pro's names and what the play best. Like me..I would much rather watch the final tbl. of the HORSE event than the Main Event.now if DN chooses not to play another tourney or play the rest of them is no concern of mine and why people make a big deal about it, i don't know.Daniel Negreanu's name speaks VOLUME !He is a very respected member of the poker world. I would bet that next yr. might run a little smoother!Perhaps next yr. the complete tourney sched...structure should be reviewed by the WSOP people and a poker players committee. Then during the WSOP next yr. if any changes are to be made it should be a VOTE among the WSOP committee. Now trying to Boycott the WSOP is totally STUPID.....you take JOE AVERAGE wins a sat. to a 2500 buyin event he has a chance to turn it into 500k..will he boycott to proove a point. NOTif the pros boycott any event it might be 200-400 less buyins...that is peanuts!once this wsop is done they need to review every problem and try to fix it for next year!!this is a huge event...totaling 40000-50000 buyins!! quick estimatenot an easy thing to organize!!

Okay I agree with that sort of structure. Although you would still have the occasional Donkey come through and have a crazy suckout to be at the FT. But that idea may give it the prestige that the ME deserves. Like someone else says the world of poker is changing and this is one of maybe many growing pains that it will go through. I sincerely hope that in the years to come the WSOP will get better and better.

I'd like to see the players band together and run a tournament by the players, for the players. Feature higher buy-ins to thin the field a bit, or a PPT-esque qualifying system. Play a full range of games, sell the TV rights, and put the remains of that contract after administative fees and such into the prize pool, feature webcasts of the event (because you know people would buy it), and really make it a player friendly event... you would drive a lot of hith tier players away from the WSOP and really eat into their revenue streams (eg ESPN)

It's for this reason, that although nobody else seems to think so, i believe the pokersuperstars winner is the world champion.
Id agree if the format was different. The structure is too fast and makes it more of a crap shoot. Id like it a bit better if it was a deep stack structure.

to each his own opinion, but if the pros (ie DN) says its less prestigious it probably makes more sense coming from him.
... Did you really just respond with essentially 'Dan said it so it must be right?" :(I think Daniel is great and have been on his site a long time, but his "watered down" comment seems like its coming from his frustration with the WSOP management and not any actual logic about the events and players themselves. For your entire response to be that is pretty bad. :(Ray

Well first of all thats not what i said at all. I was saying that DN is a pro and if a pro says its less prestigious I am going to take his word for it. He is in a much better position to make that kind of claim than most people. That is all. Reading into my post to generate an argument is the reason I kept my response short and to the point. Im not here to argue. Debating is fine but only intelligible points void of flaming and asanine banter.

.....This post is worse than the first one, do you see why?:(Feel free to not respond. I'm not here to argue either. I'm here to have a discussion. You're here to say 'Daniel is right because he's a name.' You had two chances to actualy respond with a reason why you felt Daniel was right, and skipped it both times, the second time to call my post asinine and flaming, which ironically, is all your post is. :)To anyone else (like IveyFan who had a similar opinion, or even Daniel himself), WHY do you feel its less prestigious than 4-5 years ago? What makes it more prestigious before? I suppose people could argue that the bigger fields mean even the best players have to have more luck to survive all of the situations they have to enter, even as a favorite, but the continual winning of respected and name players even this year sems to contradict that logic. I honestly would love to understand it. I'm here to argue I guess (somewhat), but contrary to JadeTiger's personal belief, I'm not here to do so unreasonably. I'm genuinely interested in why people think that bracelets are somehow less important this year than previous years...Ray

My reasoning and I am not sure how valid it is...but the sheer number of events with whatever % being strictly NLHE. This to me negates at least some of the prestige that it used to have. If you go from was it 26 events in last years WSOP to 47 events with most being low limit hold em events. It seems to me that now they are saying that a bracelet is a bracelet. But i believe that if you have a HORSE bracelet or even if you have a PLO bracelet that is MUCH more prestigious than if you won a 1500 NLHE event.JMOAnd another is that even if you wanted to play all the events you almost can't because they are all crammed together. It seems like Harrah's is just trying to make the most money they can and that is all.

Again you have misquoted me. Quotes are used for direct quotes only...not assumed summations. Beyond that my point is that DN is in a far better position to make a claim like a loss of prestige since he has been competing at this level for years and is MUCH closer to the whole situation than most of us. How much simplier can my explanation be? It has nothing to do with Daniel's celebrity, it has to do with his experience. I have skipped nothing and explained myself now for the third, and final, time. good luck to you.

Peolple are people and different people will respond to situations in a way that they feel is right. However DN or Harry D. or Phil Ivey or anybody else responds to the situation is a result of how they feel they can best address the issue based on what they know of the circumstances surrounding the event. The real question is what in the name of all that is holy is Harrah's doing. If I spend $1 or $10 or $1000 or $10000 or $100000 on anything from a candybar to a car, then there are responsibilities that the seller is obliged to live up to. In this case, a shootout's rules were changed literally minutes before the tourney started. Anybody who bought in before the rules were changed were misled about what they were getting for their money. End of story. Doesn't matter that it may be better, or worse or exactly the same. People bought a product under false pretences. Hmmmmm, that carrion smell in the air could be a posse of lawyers circling.
