Missing Thread On Shootout Debacle.

Recommended Posts

Seeing as no major changes are likely to happen this year...I think this might be the best idea yet...just a reminder that without the players...the WSOP is dead.
i agree to a point.. the amatures are not complanaing, at least not as loud.. since there are tons of non pros playing in the wsop they feel that pissing off a few ppl makes no diffrence .. every pro that they lose , they will gain 5 amatures.. there is too much money on the table for the average pro to boycott the wsop. i agree that things need to change, but i dont see it happening, at least not this year. harry is on the right track, they need to get some big name pros together and elect a spokesman to voice their concerns in time for next years event , maybe that will shake things up..

I see what you're saying...but a group of pros banding together doesn't mean much in a situation like this. What happened was a one time complete lapse of judgement on the part of the organizers. I don't see how the pros could help them avoid this, other than helping to find better floor managers...which seems to be a reccuring issue.

I just caught up on both of Daniel's blogs (wish I could see Harry's post and POV as well on the happenings @ the WSOP) and I must say that it all really does suck. I played in one of the smaller WSOP events myself and did find that some of the floorpeople were somewhat confused and at times baffled....it's like staring at 5 different people with the same face Peyton Manning has during a playoff game for an entire first hour (which is all I lasted).I did find some cruel sense of comedic irony that in Daniel's blog before the newest one, he says, "There is a NLHE shootout event going on tomorrow, so THAT should be fun." Man were you ever proved wrong! With all your frustation via the shootout event, Daniel, I think the only person that would find your troubles yesterday "fun" would be a sadomasicist. I hope you guys get your money back, and I really think that you, Harry, and other pros should go to the Nevada Gaming Comission as well as ESPN and state the disorder of what is going on @ the Rio. A boycott would create media attention, but the casino will still get people to play, in turn getting money (although not as much), so that might not prove to be as effective as say getting quality air time on a national media outlet, or through the proper governmental channels. All this being said, I am sure the Main Event* is going ot be a ZOO this year, for players and casino employee's alike.*What also would be awesome is if Daniel or Harry won the Main Event and started to talk how bad the WSOP was run while they accept the cash. I know that won't happen, but I would laugh my *** off.

well this even goes back to harry's problem with the wsop from last year.. maybe they would take the time to hire better staff and go out of their way more if the pros would band together . thats just 1 view point, i personally think the wsop has become a cattle drive and they know they have the numbers and ratings to make money even if the make a few pros mad..

Doesn't it all come down to communication?Unless they're complete and total morons the event organizers had to realize the shootout event could possibly start with less than 1000 people. They MUST have somewhere spelled out how to handle that. The just didn't tell the entrants in advance what that would be. If they said "the shootout event day one may be short handed if we get fewer than 1000 entrants" then no one can complain. The PLO rebuy vs non rebuy thing is the same. They meant for it to be a rebuy, published it wrong and changed it back at the last minute without giving proper notification to the entrants/possible entrants. As soon as they realized the error every early entrant should have gotten a letter/phone call stating that it would be a rebuy. Every new entrant should have been told before putting their money down that it's a rebuy.

A few practical thpughts on why they should not make late changes like this (everyone should have been notified weeks in advance of the change to the printed format which card player still has as PLO NO REBUYS):Firstly someone staying at the off site from The Rio may well turn up and not know it is now a rebuy tourney and as such may not bring enough money with them for rebuys/add onsOthers who have already entered may not have budgeted for rebuys or may not be able to afford them.Every player when arriving at The Table whether at the start or if they turn up late should be informed by the dealer that this is now a rebuy tourney as they may miss any announcement prior to the start of play.As such and purely because of these few things alone they MUST refund anyone's money who wishes to withdraw.Wouldn't it be greta if EVERYONE chose to withdraw (I'm too idealistic to believe this could happen). How about when play starts every single player stands up for five minutes and moves away from the tables thereby rendering all hands dead as nobody is at their seat? It would demonstarte the displeasure of whats going on, show solidarity and send a clear message don't you think? But how could I orchestrate such a thing without access to a microphone and surely I would get evicted before I could make a public announcement?I live in hope......................
the theme song to that post should be Goin Down by Young Joc.meet me in the Trap it's goin downmeet me in the mallit's goin downmeet me in the clubit's goin downanywhere you meet me guaranteed to go downne waythat would be amazing if you could get something like that to happen. if i was there i would no doubt be a part of it. gl

From what I've read on 2+2, they are now telling people signing up that today's PLO event will be a rebuy tournament, and are offering refunds to people that signed up. What happens when the tournament actually starts, who knows?

I don't know if this was posted in a previous thread just read this too, about some guy who had to moan and groan and threaten to tell the Nevada Gaming Commision that he didn't recieve his $3400 cash from an event @ the Rio:http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showflat...part=1&vc=1Just amazing stuff, alot of screw ups going on here.

It's so bizzare that one of the threads deleted by a hacker was Harry's. It could have been the same guy who deleted both Cardplayer and Pokerwires reports of the event. Conspiracy....

In Late Breaking news..the Main event will start 46 handed..they are bolting 3 tables together. They are also using 4 multi colored decks and adding one suit...(It is not clear what suit it is that they are adding...maybe UNO cards or something)Wraparound straights are allowed and jokers will be introduced. It is not clear wether 5 of a kind will beat a straight flush though.

Yeah- The deleted thread had a lot of rants about the fact that Cardplayer deleted the update of Harry's ire at the structure. It is an amazing breach of journalistic ethics to decide not to report the complaints due to a business relationship with the subject of your coverage. If a reporter was on the payroll of a senator and choose to bury stories that were harmful to the senator, the country would come unglued. This is exactly what is happening here. Cardplayer is buring the bad press about the WSOP since they have exclusive rights to it, and that is totaly unethical.

Chuck Norris owns the greatest poker face of all-time. It helped him win the 1983 world series of poker despite him holding just a Joker, a 2 of clubs, a 7 of spades, and a green number 4 from Uno and a Monopoly 'get out of jail free' card. I saw it in person.... I was just 3 at the time, but it was a monumental moment in my life....

HoosierAlum's playing the event. Perhaps, you, him, and Daniel could pass the word along and get this orchestrated.Someone needs to shove it to Harrah's. It truly is a damn shame that the WSOP is no longer ran by a Binion.

Sure- It is Harrah's best interest to cover it up. I am not judging them as much as cardplayer here. How can they justify removing the story? If they are a legit news magazine, they need to tell the truth. If they are a PR firm for the WSOP then they need to disclose that. Pretending to cover an event whe in essence you are realy promoting the event is marginal at best. I would love for Barry Shulman to explain the reasoning for deleting the update regarding Harry.

my e-mail to Barry Shulman regarding this. I will let you know what he has to say, if anything.Barry-During the $2,500 shootout event at the WSOP Harry Demetriou became very upset about the event starting six handed. As I understand, he became so upset and agitated he was asked to leave. Cardplayer originally had reported this on their daily coverage of the event. Then, it suddenly disappeared off of the report. Why would Cardplayer cover up the incident? Harry has been vocal about his displeasure with this event, so is Cardplayer attempting to protect Harrah’s?I am subscriber to your magazine and enjoy it very much. I trust the integrity of the magazine; I rely on that integrity to give me the honest look into what is going on in the poker world. When the decision is made to edit out a report that is unfavorable to Harrah’s it makes me question the integrity of your entire organization. I look forward to your response.

Just to add to the griping about the floorpeople at the WSOP: I've played in two event, and have heard for rulings asked for about if the pot can be reraised 3 times. All 3 times, different rulings have been given. For instance: Someone raises pot, another guy calls, guy goes all in behind them both. First guy wants to reraise. How much more did the all in guy have to shove in to make the reraise legal? That is the interpretation that I've heard 3 different answers to.Mark

I know when Victor Ramdin asked a floor person what happens if a player holds his cards up high enough that another player sees it, is the hand dead? The floor person said not dead but you may get a penalty, which is opposite from what the floor person said before to him, that the hand is dead.
