To all of you in Vegas right now:Is it true that a lot of the Rio dealers have walked out?I just got the word from a buddy out there saying there are no more side games and tournaments are sometimes starting late because they're short of dealers.Apparently the dealers feel like they are getting ripped off. This would really piss me off 'cause I planned to play the $500+40 second chance tourney my first day there next week.

There was a link to a PokerNews.com article about the walk out, I'm just to lazy to look it up.

All the players should be allowed to have $1/$5 chips at the tables as well to tip the dealers like in a normal cash game....Not a big deal for a $10K event at least....Maybe not so good for a $1K buy in though....Just a thought...

I disagree, strongly. When you enter a WSOP tournament, a certain percentage ofthe prize pool is taken out to compensate the dealers, tournamentstaff, etc. With the amount of money they are taking from the players, not to mention TV royalties, advertising rights, and all the other thingsthat come with this event, there should be NO reason ever that theplayers should be expected to tip the tournament dealers.Read Harry D's post about some of his WSOP gripes. They soundvery similar to those of the dealers. Harrah's seems to have forgottenthat the players and dealers are the lifeblood of these tourneys in theirquest for the almighty dollar.

You misunderstand....I'm saying since the dealers apparently aren't getting a fair cut of what is being taken out of the prize pools, then harrah's should take a much smaller cut, and allow the dealers to be tipped at the table. This would avoid the problem of being paid for down time etc since the dealers that are actually working are making the tip money. I'm sure the players would be happy as well if less of a cut was taken from the prize pools. Nobody wants to see $1 Million + taken from the main event.

And I don't think it's right that Party Poker is going to take in $75K in rake for the Million dollar guarantee either...but what are ya gonna do. I'm still playing.

At the start of the tourney there were many promises that this year would be better for the dealers than last year. A lot of them left their jobs in other parts of the country to deal here for the WSOP. Many had hopes of making decent money and starting something new. It hasn't turned out that way. Dealers are projected to make less than a third of what the dealers from last year made even after the change last week. With the bigger fields and larger number of cash games being spread this year, the dealers don't think this is reasonable. It goes deeper than money. Another issue that has come up is parking. Even though the dealers meet in a tent in the employee parking lot, they aren't allowed to park there anymore. This past week dealers have been forced to park across the convention center parking lot and walk 400 yards in 110 degree weather wearing black vests. One older dealer was seen parking one lot closer to the employee lot when a van came screeching up and a security officer demanded that he move his car. He told the security guard that he had bad knees and couldn't walk that far. The security guard told him his car would be towed if he left it there, then followed him to the other lot to make sure he left his car there and watched him walk to the tent. All of these issues are being "looked into" and should be fixed this week.

I have not heard of any of them walking out... I heard the opposite.Did you know that they are paying the dealers $55,000 for the 6 weeks of the WSOP? Yes, $55,000... Granted its 12-14hr days for 6 weeks, but thats alot of cash. And that isnt including tips from the juice that is collected by Harrah's in the buy-ins.I know this because my best friend is a dealer and 3 of the dealers and 1 floorman at the casino he works at went to deal. And they dont just take any dealers, you have to have some experience. They prefer floor people to deal rather than just regular dealers.

I heard otherwise while I was there last week. The big stink came after the first paycheck, where dealers were seeing $20-$24 per hour for their dealing. Many of the cash game dealers were upset because of the things mentioned in the Poker News article. Also, I had heard that some of the floor personnel were getting a bit upset as well. Floorpeople are paid by the hour, and Harrah's had initially promised that they would be paid as much overtime as possible, well last week, Harrah's supposedly started cutting back on that overtime. Floorpeople are working tons of hours now, and not getting paid what they were. A lot of them looked pretty damn tired and had that look of being "fed up" with things. This was in the cash game area. One comment I heard from a dealer. "There had been talks that when the TD said 'Shuffle up and deal,' all the dealers would stand up and walk out of the tournament." Now, wouldn't that be something if that happened at the ME?

OK, so ... a $75,000 RAKE in a million dollar tourney. When you play most other online tourney, you pay 10%. If this is the only rake, then I guess I'm not really too worried about it. They run a huge tourney, they get to rake huge. But if this is over and above a "normal" rake ... I don't know. Are they raking rebuys? (Is it a rebuy?). I guess I need more information.Hey, this reminds me ... when do you think they're going to bust in and arrest Sexton? (JK, I like Mike, he seems like "poker decency" personified).

That article stating that they prefer floor-people rather thhan regular dealers to deal games might explain why some of the dealers (that I had in my tourney-event 17) were just plain awful. Shaking hands, and in one instance, a small blind limper had his cards mucked by the dealer, after the dealer saw him make the call of the BB. They gave the player his call chips back, but still, that's the kind of thing that is simply inexcusable.
