CrocThis actually a great question that I promised Strategy I would post in Strat, but never did. LOLI don't think it's a monsterous mistake EV wise. I have always looked at it like this...It's not that much money to add on...the add on of 2k in chips has more value than the rebuy of 1.5k chips...it never hurts to keep the same lead u had on everyone at yur table since they add on.Just my take...would love to hear more. Copernicus....any chance you can stop by general for a sec?LOL

Always Add-On, who knows where those 2K in chips will come in handy.JEFF
exactly. always add on. later in tournament if you have 42k opposed to 40k and double off someone who has you covered, now you have 84k instead of 80k. Later on 168k instead of 160k. YOu catch my drift

The more chips you have, the less valuable they are. If I was 4th in chips I wouldn't rebuy. But I dont think it's a horrible move, if you got the money then go nuts

If I have any chance to win I alway add on. Online tournaments become such a crapshoot at the end everyone becomes short stacked every chip is ver valuable.
Huh?

Huh?
I think when you have 40 K the 2K is not going to make much of a difference. The average stack I'm guessing is probably about 6K (usually they are in that tourney at break) and you have more than enough to throw your weight around. Again its only 5 dollars so its not really a big deal either way.

it's usually 10k or so. Which 40k is still safe. I'm kind of a tightwad so I wouldnt take the addon in that spot, but I wouldnt yell at someone who did...unless it was crocd of course (s/w)

I read somewhere that the only time not to add on is if you have the average amount of chips for the final table- so if 90 people are left and they all average 5,000 in chips, then the final tbale will average 50,000 in chips. If you already are at $50,000 then adding on is not of value. Ithink this was Harrington's rule of thumb.I think if you have the table covered by a wide margin (say 2 times the next closest stack) I might think about not rebuying. I am guessing that you like to play an aggressive big stack game. If so, then a rebuy helps you have ammo to bully the table with.

Bad move. That 5$ most likely wont help you in the long run enough to justify the additional 5$ investment.I forgot where I read an article on it before But I think once you get to around 15-20k chips the add-on is no longer worthwhile.

You shouldnt be playing rebuy or addon tournies if you dont plan on doing it. It doesnt matter if you near the chipleaders every little bit helps when the blinds start getting outrageous

I always budget Xrebuys and an add on when I head to a tournament depending on how they play. Typically no more than 2 rebuys and the add on. If you have it budgeted, then you can consider the add on fishing money to up your agression or try somethhing to vary your play.

I think its absolutely pointless. Investing another tourney buyin is not worth it. Ur also putting 2K more chips into play. You have 40K blinds are 75/150, you can take a nap and still have a huge stack at the break. For me at this pt its a waste. I'd probably add on up to 20-25K or so.

That's ridiculous, it's $5. First of all, if OP has 40K at first break I'm guessing he's usually in a $5 rebuy for at least $25, often more. Second of all, the point is to win like $5,000. $5 is worth it if it increases your chances of making the final table even a tiny little bit.
