Skizario 0
Just returned from my trip to the WSOP and thought I would share a brief rundown of my experiences. This is my second year attending the WSOP and I go mainly for the side games. The 10-20 games at the Rio are unbelievably juicy, at least they were last year. When I arrived I heard some players talking about how all the low-middle limit cash games (i.e. 10-20, 15-30. 20-40) were drying up because everybody was playing no limit. I quickly found this to be true. Last year they easily spread at least three to four 10-20 games a day. This year they were lucky to keep 2 going. Not that the turnout was down, just that everybody was playing No-Limit. After about three days of playing 10-20 at the Rio and not doing as well as I had expected I decided to "mix it up" and play some no limit. I should mention that I do not like playing no limit live. I find it very boring with too much sitting around and waiting. Also, I am not very good at it. So, obviously, sitting down and playing no-limit is a good idea. I decide to take a day off from the Rio and check out the new room at the Venetian (awesome room, if you get the chance check it out). I sit in a 2-5 no limit game and basically go an hour without anything exciting happening. There is a super aggressive (SAG) player to my left who I am just waiting to pick off. Eventually I am in the small blind with 68 of clubs and limp after four players limp ahead of me. SAG player raises 15 out of the big blind and everyone calls. Flop comes 696. Yippee! Not so much. Long story short SAG player had pocket 9's. Good game me.I decide to rebuy since I feel fairly comfortable in the game depsite being down. 10 hands later I pick up JJ and raise it up with 2 callers. Flop 9 10 J. Yippee! Not so much. Other guy had KQ. Good game me.I should also mention that I sat next to Ron Rose (won a WPT event in season 1) in the 2-5 no-limit game. I believe he was there playing with a friend. Anyways, if you are the kind of player who really enjoys sitting next to someone and listening to their bad beat stories you should jump at the chance to sit next to Ron Rose. The man would not stop. After my day of no-limit I decided to head back to the Rio and try to soften the blow by making some money back in the 10-20 game. I eventually did and my loss for the trip was fairly insignificant. Some other notes on the WSOP:- You will not find a group of collective dealers with lower morale than the Dealers at the WSOP. My family owns a small cardroom in California so I have some understanding of the typical dealer environment and these guys have it bad. First off they have to share their tips. Which pretty much sucks for a good dealer since he will be getting the same cut as a bad dealer, of which there were plenty. Their tips then get dropped into a box that Harrahs collects and then redistributes without telling the dealers how much was taken in to begin with. You can believe Harrahs takes their cut.Secondly, the dealers have to deal with incompetent floormen who have absolutely no consistency in their rulings. During my trip I was told four different rules for cell phones at the tables:Floorman 1: You need to go out of the room to talk on your cell phone.Floorman 2: You can talk on your phone at the table.Floorman 3: You can answer it and say "hold on", wait until the hand is over, then talk (that one was my favorite, a guy actually lost a $50 sidebet on that one).Floorman 4: You have to step away from the table to talk on your phone. There is nothing worse for a dealer than an inconsistent floorman. When the dealer tries to enforce a rule and the floorman doesn't have his back it kills the dealers credibility with the table. Then the players feel like they are running game and anything goes. A bad situation to be in.- The dealers do have good stories though and I found this one particuarly entertaining:This guy was dealing a tournament and there were 2 players all in with a 3rd player waiting to make a decision. One of the all in players did not know that there was still someone left to act and accidentally exposed his KK. The player left to act took like 10 more minutes before making his decision, which is absolutely ridiculous because unless he has AA he should fold ( he wasn't priced into the pot). He eventually calls and inexplicably showss JJ. The other 2 players both have KK. Flop A J A putting JJ in the lead. Turn A putting KK's in the lead. River is the case J. Unbelievable.Anyways, that was a somewhat brief recap of my WSOP. If anyone is heading out there and has any questions feel free to ask.

Skizario 0
Skiz,Good read. Thanks for the post. Did you have to wait long for seats in the side games?I think the most I waited was for an hour one day to get in a 10-20 game. No one at the table would leave. Then once one seat opened up it seemed like 3-4 did. The most annoying thing was there appeared to be enough players to start a second game but they were reluctant to do so. I suppose they have their reasons. Also, the people running the board are absolute morons who need to be told no less than 3 times a seat is available before they fill it. Good luck dealing with them. If you put your name on the list and are close to being called for a seat then stay close by. You won't be able to hear your name called if you stray too far.One more thing. If you are sitting in a game and waiting for a seat in another game. When you hear your name called for the game you want do not pick up your chips from your current game. Go over to where your new seat is and make sure they have it locked up for you before you leave your current game. I saw more than a few players learn this lesson the hard way.
