So...do I talk to my friend before or after the party?Here's my thinking:If I talk to him before the party, then it makes it sound like, 'Hey, i am planning on hitting on your sister, is that ok with you?'If something happens at the party (I am NOT going to 'go all the way,' just not my style at this point) and we hit it off, and I talk to him after, I could say things just kinda happened, because they will have. Talk to your friend after the party. No sense in starting a whole THING between your friend if there is nothing between you and this girl.Go to the party, see how it goes.Then talk to the friend.Of course if the friend is gonna be at the same party as you and the girl. Say nothing before the party. Then talk to the girl. He will either figure it out watching you and her, or if he doesn't see you, mention everything in the guise of "hey, i was talking to your sister and .....".my 2 cents.

I would like to propose a solution to this particular problem. Perhaps the mods can tell me if this is possible. It just takes way to long to open this thread adn it is only going to get worse. Is there anyway to cut the thread in half? We could lock the top half and leave it stickied, so it wouldn't get lost in the back of the Forum. I know some people will object but we need to be realistic. The amount of time it takes me to get in here is what is dicouraging me from being as active as I could in this thread. Anybody else have any solutions to offer?

yes, figure out why EXACTLY it's slow and fix it! the sql queries it makes to pull up a page in this forum has NOTHING to do with topic length.But as i can't see the inner workings, i'm just speculating. but my point is valid. Fix the problem, not gundeck the problem!

I honestly find that hard to believe. It's true that the entire forum is slow, but this thread takes ten times longer to open than any other. There must be a problem with the size. Perhaps it has something to do with all the pics and stuff, I have no clue but this thread in particular is having a problem and I think we should start considering locking it and starting aFCP AT WORK CREW (part DEUX) thread.

When the overall site got really slow with the influx of people, there was a post by a mod or FCP INFO or someone that said "they" were getting new hardware in place to handle the traffic. Could it be that the forum is divided across more than one server and this huge thread as well as perhaps very old ones and such are left on "old" and slower machines? Those in the know will have to find out!

Seeing as I am still reading the whole thread, I can vouch that the earlier pages of this thread do not take nearly as long to load. The length of this thread + number of hits this specific thread is getting could be slowing down the database. I have done some web development including phpbb forums and have never seen a thread that is as slow to load as this. My cheap/easy solution...Archive this thread and start a new one, probably keep doing that every 1k pages or so.

But i'm saying the problem are with the queries themselves that bring up this page.in laymans terms, when you click on the page, a sql query is sent to the database, mysql or whatever, and the database serves up the data. I conted that the queries that are used to retrieve the data are not OPTIMIZED, so therefore, because the thread is so large, the database is taking to long to fill the query.however if the query was optimized, it wouldn't matter what the length is, because it's only giving you 40 posts at a time. I believe that the database is searching the "entire" thread before deciding on giving just the 40 posts per page.While the problem APPEARS to be length related, it's really Query related.see the difference?

I understand what you are saying but to be honest I doubt admin will waste their time trying to fix our thread for us. They have too much to worry about right now. If we wait for them to fix it, we'll be dealing with this for the next six months. I really think we just need to have the thread locked and start over again.
