Party 10/20 Players Talking Smack About Hsp On Gsn

Recommended Posts

There is an interesting thread going on on 2+2 currently in which a bunch of the party 10 20 players think that they would run all over the players who play in GSN's High Stakes Poker. I think that this claim is totally ludacrous as the stakes alone would make most of them feel uncomfortable, and as such, effect their play. I was wondering what Daniel's thoughts (or anyone else's really) were on the issue considering that he actually plays in the game. linky

Interesting, theres always next season, I'm sure DN or some of the other pros would love to have these guys in the game and certainly have the ability to get them in the game.... I'd love to see something along of Internet pros vs. Live players... I wonder if DN is thinking "yum yum"

The best 10-20 regulars probably understand NLHE cash games better than most of the HSP crowd. Moreover, they have probably played more hands of NLHE than most of the people on that show. Also, there are a few people sitting in the game who are not very good at all. So, I don't think it would come as any surprise if some online specialist had an edge in that game.Obviously bankroll concerns, live reads, tv cameras, intimidation and the like might mitigate their edge, but by the same token, if say, Daniel or Sammy Farha (or really anyone who doesn't play NLHE exclusively) sat down to play 10-20 NL on Party tomorrow at a table with lolo, bld, samo, PhilLedingue, and Shavlik, he would likely have the worst of it. This is not to say that they wouldn't adjust given enough focus and time.

I doubt that DN would be happy if Phil H. or Jerry Buss traded their seat with someone who does nothing but play NLHE on 8 tables every day.

I LOL'd to this. Daniel has played 50/100 NLHE online and booked 8x wins in his few sessions. He could play 10/20 live against these guys completely in the dark, without looking at his cards, and totally destroy them. He's done it before, but why waste fighting for hundred dollar pots when you can play for hundred thousand dollar pots and still win?

I gotta agree with Iron here.. if you were to stake the best 10/20 NL ONLINE player enough money to play with the big boys.. I think he would do well in that game... 1500 hands a day every day sure beats even a top pro that only sees 1000 hands in a week... just my opinion.

DN was taking all comers in almost any form of poker from 100k to 1 million dollars, where were the online players then? They should take him up in a challenge match. I don't the intensity and skill level that the online players posess, but it would be interesting to see what the results would be live.

Lol ignorance is funny.DN has gotten beaten for some solid $ before at 50/100 as well. Also the top 5-6 players who play the 10/20 game on pp also rake in more $ then a player like DN will playing poker.

Is the claim, the PP pros could beat Sammy, Daniel, Doyle and Jerry playing 10/20 on Party or that the PP pros could beat Sammy, Daniel, Doyle and Jerry playing 300/600 [100] live in font of cameras ?Theyd probably win online coz 1) The money would make no difference to the big players 2) The online pros have mastered the NLHE games. But to think that they could beat the pros in the 300/600 is stupid. Pressure, camera, money relativity, and most importantly, READS! Nobody are better readers of people than guys like Daniel and Ted

In a live games these internet players would undoubtedly lose over the longrun. Book it, end of discussion. Doesn't matter if Matusow rolled them each 10 mil, they don't have nearly the experience of playing live and are too used to the internet game and their "internet" opponents, playing about 1500 hands a day in a specific setting against specific opponents in a specific style. You say the top 5 or 6 players at Party 10/20 NHLE would win, I'll wager 1k and pick my top 5/6 live game players and we'll just see who wins. I'll take Daniel, Chan, Forrest, Greenstein, Hanson, Brunson and I'd bet my life they'd win live in any kind of format. I also have a list of about 400 backups who would rip apart the 10/20 internet players. Go to sleep lil boy, go to sleep.

1. I didn't say that they would beat the five best live players in the world, only that they could make money against the lineup on HSP. 2. Some of the online players of whom I speak have considerable live game experience as well. You realize that playing online doesn't preclude the possibility of sitting down in a casino as well?3. What a strange list. Is Poker Superstars on right now or something? 4. Since you are so confident in your horses, are you willing to lay odds?

1. Live 10/20 plays like online 2/4.2. Daniel's reports of playing blind seem to reflect perhaps 200 hands or so.3. Daniel wasn't playing a select group of players; he was playing a bunch of tourists who happened to be in the same casino at the same time.4. I'm not sure that Daniel could sit down right now and beat the 50/100 NL on UB over say, 100k hands.

All we really have is speculation and conjecture until we actually see this game take place live.
Best reply so far....For one thing, if these online players are so good and talking smack, they should offer a challenge or setup some arrangement to play the pros from hsp.

why would they want to play that game if they are crushing the game they are playing right now.. its like me criticizing Dirk Nowitzki.. and saying he sucks.. but I sure in hell wouldnt want to play him 1 on 1

This is the same as any sports fan watching a baseball or basketball game or any other sport sitting there and saying "that guy stinks", "he cant hit" etc etcThe worst player in any sport at a professional level is better then 90% of those not playing at a professional levelSame goes here - if these guys were good enough to be beating a 300/600 game - they would be playing

Franky I don't see how the guys playing 10/20 online have the ability to understand let alone criticize the play of the pros on High Stakes.I'm not saying they aren't good poker players, don't understand the game at the level/arena they play in etc. but I think there are more factors at work in the games Daniel and the like play than just playing the cards and players right. We are also only seeing a sampling of the hands and cannot know what prev. circumstance caused a player to make the plays they made. It's one thing to take 250k off Jerry Buss, it's another to take 250k off Jerry Buss and make him feel like he had a great time and want's to come put another 250K in play.

thats a great point.also, watching a game and seeing everything that goes on gives you an unclear vision of what is going on within the confines of the table.things that arent obvious seem obvious.i defy anyone who thinks a 10 20 player would beat alaei, esfandiari and chan.these guys are amazing. AMAZING!i think the reaosn that farha and neg sometimes seem to be a little donkish is cos they have too much money.you can tell esfandiari and alaei really care about the money and winning it.their play is great.

Not bad. I have no idea what the 10/20 NL online players have made so far in 2006. I would be quite impressed if it was over 2M though.
