Ive Lost The Will To Play Poker

Recommended Posts

didnt think it would ever happen but ive become bored and tired of poker. ive been a winning player for a long time now but recent down swings have frustrated me too much. it seems like ive broken even over the last few months so that and the fact that one by one my freinds have stopped playing poker for whatever reason has just made me feel like moving on. i know everyones gonna say take a break from it, but thats what ive been doing. ive been on a break for about a month and i just dont feel like getting back into it. i think im gonna cash out my disappointingly stable bankroll and buy a new guitar.

If you really feel the need to cash out your bankroll be sure to hold onto enough of it to start playing again when you are ready. The desire to play will come again some day and you don't want to have to start from scratch.

My wife quit for good three times this weekend. One time lasted a couple of hours. I could never have that much willpower.

I too am going to take a break from poker for a while... not forever and not even completely in the interim, but definately back off and evaluate my life, my game, and what I want to accomplish... Overall I've had a good year so far winning over $12k but the last month or so I've stalled out and can't seem to concentrate and play my best. Last night I was in a WPT satelite tourney where I was the chip leader most of the way playing great poker and then ended up busting out 7th on a completely donkey move that a rookie would make! I ask myself, "how could I self-destruct like that!"... that has been happening too much lately so it is time to step back and reevaluate where I am going...

I felt the same way a couple of weeks ago. I play about 80% live and about 20% online. I noticed that I had no problem playing online, but was bored and uninspired while playing live. It really just came down to the fact that I was playing at the wrong time and in the wrong state of mind. Quitting a session at online is much easier than live. I'm not sure about where you tend to play the most, but if you are 50/50 in your desire to take a break, I suggest a short layoff, and then find a time when you are excited and ready to play and give it another shot.

Due to the overwhelming concern that Phil Ivey has called it quits, he just posted a personal letter on Full Tilt Poker dispelling the rumor. If you have no will to play then just chill. Its nothing life changing, you didn't depend on the income, just don't get frustrated cause you haven't TP/MM in the time you played. If you feel that way you obviously have ways to go in terms of understanding the game and maybe its just not for you. Poker should be recreational thing just like playing a guitar. You wouldn't stop playing guitar cause you didn't get a record deal so make sure you are looking at poker in the right light. Understand yourself and the answers till come. If you can only buy a guitar with your online bankroll, you have don't have much to worry about in terms of coming back. Get a job and put 2 weeks pay in and you should be off to where you left off. (I'm going to assume its not like a 100K guitar)

People say it's so hard to take a long time off of poker. I took 5 months off and it was really easy. Poker is really a pointless game because it all relies on what other people do. You could give the person horrible odds to call and if they feel like calling off their stack with a gutshot then they will. Then it all just comes down to variance.

Notice how the story never goes:"Man, I've just been playing a lot lately, doubled my bankroll 8 times, bought a grill, and i'm just sick of it so i'm quitting and taking back my bankroll."
