I havent played at Isle of Capri, but I have played at Harrahs.Harrahs has a 3/6/12 format for limit holdem. So on the last round of betting you can bet $6 or $12 (once someone bets $12 and you want to raise, you must raise $12). They also have a bad beat jackpot. I think the bad beat jackpot happens if someone has Aces full or better and gets beat by someone else (and both people have to use both their hole cards).Harrahs is the only casino I've ever been to and I'm still an inexperienced player so I'm not really sure how to judge the tables but I'll see if I can help. I've been there 4 times. Once the table was loose with about 8 people seeing every flop and 3 going all the way to the showdown. The other three times the tables were much tighter with about 4 or 5 people seeing the flop and heads up play on the turn (here the tables were also timid with a lot of check/calling). The one thing I would watch out for with the 3/6/12 format: a lot of people will slow play and then slam you with a $12 raise when the river card comes out. I wouldnt be too scared of it, but just be aware that its out there. Of course the $12 bet can be used to your advantage when you want to bluff as a lot of people will fold to it (this is true at the more timid tables I mentioned). Not many tables to choose from at Harrahs. Sometimes they do have some no-limit tables running, but I havent tried them yet (I think the max buy in might $300, but I'm not sure).A friend of mine has tried Isle of Capri and he says he likes Harrahs better. He says Harrahs has a cleaner, better atmosphere. Not sure if I helped you any, but good luck tomorrow.

OK, if you are goin this weekend you will find alot of sharks among the 3-6 tables... Alot of the weekday 10-20 players will play 3-6 all weekend b/c the money is so good... be prepared to endure swings, but the pay off is huge.I would go meet up w/ ya but I'm having to save some money right now.BTW, I live in Lake Charles, I prefer the Isle.

Hollywood in shreveport had a solid 4/8 game, I walked in one night and totally cut the game to bits in 2 hours. While I was there I saw a 10-20 and a 20-40 going on.New Orleans Harrah's is a good one for most basic stakes, but the big game there is Omaha... they have all sorts of half and half games, pot limit, and spread limit omaha games.

Maybe I can get your opinion on this? Is Harrahs in New Orleans one of the better casinos in Lousiana to make money. I've heard the tables there are very loose (i guess due to the tourism, drinking, and general atmosphere of New Orleans). Is this true?

I personally I have not sat at those games, I played a rotating 4/8 once... it was a tough game, I was also hammered at 3am when I sat down...But I have friends who have played there and he said they are very very loose.

Ok that is about the same thing I've heard. A guy I played with at Harrahs in Lake Charles said he thought the tables in New Orleans were extremely loose with players chasing just about anything. I'd like to go there and try it, but New Orleans is just to much of a drive for me.

Shoot, I almost forgot. If you go to Harrahs in Lake Charles, there is a regular you should look for. I've seen him 3 out of the 4 times I've gone and all the dealers know him (one of the dealers said he comes almost every weekend). He brings a lot money, drink a ton, extremely friendly, and has the most fun at the table of any guy I've ever seen. When he's really liquered up, the entire room can here him hooting and hollaring when he's in a hand. "COME ON DEALER! COME ON! GIVE IT TO ME! WAH HOOO! BINGO BABY!" I swear he does this all the time. Its hilarious. When you get there, scan the room for about 5 minutes. If he's there, you'll know it. Sit down at the same table with him, have a good time and win some money. What more could you ask for. And dont let his antics bother you, he's just having a good time.

isle of Capri has a larger room with more players but it's older and less "hi-tech" than Harrahs. Harrahs room is smaller but nicer looking. Capri has a lot of old folks with retirement money to burn. The only game they offer from what i remember is 3/6/12

I reguarly go to LA for my poker needs living in Dallas.Harrahs new room is much nicer than Isle. I would suggest Harrahs to you out of those two. Isle is old and dirty. Also, Isle as tons of regulars. Everytime i got there everyone knows each other. I have always done well there, but if you are looking for "tourist" play dont go there. There are some good players to watch out for. Both casinos play 3/6/12. I like the 12 b/c it bring bluffing into the game. I only bet 12 on the river...never 6...you will be amazed about how much pressure they feel when they know you have the option and choose the 12. You would think they would notice that i always did that, but few people pay that much attention. Listen to the dealers while you are at these places. They normally strike up conversations with the regulars that are there to take money from the tourist. They never seem to talk to the locals that blow there whole paycheck every weekend. Just pay attention to that...they are sending you warning singles on who to avoid at the table. Another consideration is Coushatta Casino. It is about 40 min past LC in a small town called Kinder. This place is my favorite. They just built a huge beautiful poker room. They have a tourny on friday and saturday. Friday will cost about 70-100 after rebuys. Saturday is about 220 total. They mainly spread 3/6/12 and a 1-2 200max buy in no limit. Always done good there too. You get a lot of locals from the small towns that have no regard for the little money they have (being blunt). I was there 2 weeks ago and won about 800 in a 16 hr session at the no limit table. Just play tight...the locals there are looking for entertainment...they think it is fun to put their chips in the middle. Overall in LA fundamental poker works. Nothing fancy. Look for the fish that keeps reaching his pocket. He will have a wad of 100s...and will lose them as fast as he can get it out. One at every table. They all have a bad beat pot. Coushatta's was up to 70000 2 weeks ago. You can cal l ahead to see what it is at. Aces full of 10s or better must be beat by 4 of a kind or better...2 full houses dont count. Both hole cards must be used.O yeah...there are always a good amount of drunks coming over from TX.Harrahs or Coushatta is my suggestion for poker and entertainment. As for New Orleans...good room...nice casino...great town...but the only casino i have a losing record over the long run. Hope this helpsGood luck
