SteezyDice 0
Hey just wondering if this isnt' a good deal. There is a max 30 person tourney going where I live that is a 50 dollar buy in with a 10 dollar entry fee. Is 20% of the buyin too big? They have dealers, but they aren't professional, I played there once but there was no fee.. Just wondering what to do.. Also, this isn't like a friendly home game where everyone knows everyone, it's a weekly thing that people in the know play..
FatBurger 0
If they're supplying food and drinks, it's not too bad.
ROGUE06 0
I would never charge an entry fee. That is really cheap and sort of like scamming everyone. However if people want to eat, they could all throw in like 5 bucks for chips/pizza, etc.
Suited_Up 2
20% is high regardless of what they are using it for.

Wandigo 1
I've ran a home game for over a year now and I've never charged an entry fee. The only thing I make people pay is an extra $1 which is put into a separate kiddie. At the end of the year, the top 10 overall players (I keep stats and have a points system) play for all the money collected, so it's eventually given back to the players. If you run a home game, you should do it for free because you enjoy doing it and only charge a fee if you're providing something extra such as food, drinks, or prizes. erac22 0
Charging a fee for a home game is mega gay. Just have everyone bring a six pack and a box of chips ahoy.
DB10-2 0
i agree. the only way that much juice is justified in a home game is if they put up a huge buffet every time. even then, it's still kind of crazy since i don't think i'd ever eat $10 worth of food while playing poker.the only money that ever comes out of my home game is $5 for the shareware fee for the tournament software i use. i also only rake it if the prize pool gets to a certain size per number of players, so it happens pretty rarely (just about often enough to pay the guy who writes the software).people like the software enough that they don't have a problem with it. i would never freeroll or charge any other kind of juice. it's a friggin' home game, for crying out loud. vgsgeek 0
When I first started running my home tourney, there was $0 money pulled from the pot. When we all ordered pizza there was always an issue with who was chipping in and how much each person was going to throw in and nobody EVER has change. Plus, some people always expected there to be beer & snacks provided because I was hosting... I then switched to taking $5 per person out of the pot. I supplied a couple 12 packs and enough pizza for the group. Nobody is ever upset about throwing in 5 bucks and it ends up saving time and effort. With that said, I personally think that $10 per person is a bit much. I don't care if the buy-in for the tourney was $200, this isn't about what % of the buy-in you are paying... I'd rather head to a casino if the house is gonna take that much out of the pot. nosoul 0
Turn them into the cops.Threaten to do this if they won't let you play after you refuse to pay the fee. Fight illegal gambling with extortion. Make sure you win it, though, because they're not going to invite you back.

GoCryWolfe 0
20% is high regardless of what they are using it for.I kinda agree with the 20% thing. But, are you saying it is okay to be paying 10% of the fee in tournaments in online poker rooms? For nothing that helps us as players out? In a tournament such as the OP is talking about, the place provides dealers and possibly snacks.

Wandigo 1
how do you do this and rail everyone? you are an amazing person. actually laughed out loud when I read this. bravo.Setting up games and running tournaments is something I have a passion for and do it for no cost whatsoever. I don't give myself a free entry either, I pay like everyone else. The game I run used to get from 30-40 people/week and it's all people I went to high school with, which makes it that much more fun of an event to keep in touch with old classmates. I'll never charge any type of rake fee for a game, if someone wants to host and put together their own game, they should make it as easy and comforting on the players as possible. I build tables, buy chips, keep stats and often buy drinks out of my own pocket because I enjoy it, not because I have to.
