for over the last 3 years, i have lived on my own by supporting myself by playing poker. i have paid for my rent, college tuition, everything. and for the most part i had a lot of money for someone in my age and in my situation. for the most part of that time, i kept a bankroll in excess of 500bb's, always playing limits between 2/4 and 5/10, whichever games were juciest or i felt like playing. i had been through many downswings, some in excess of 200bb's or more. let me tell you that in my opinion for most players that play for a living, like everyone says it is a GRIND. i usually played 6 tables, some time as much as 12 and sometimes only 1. for the most part 4-6. i have logged millions of hands, and was a good winner for well over the last 4 years, with multitabling, i was making a VERY decent living. well since april things started to slow down, and it was taking longer and longer to grind out profits. around this time my downswing started, well to make a long story short, through horrid cards, and some bad playing on my part, i have officially gone bust. my bankroll hit 0.00 today. the people that know me from outside the forum and play with me know me to be a very even keeled player. i will admit that i lost a small amount from tilting probably 10-20% of my roll from it. but like all the real pro's say, sometimes the cards can spit in your face for MONTHS. i never believed that a dowswing like that was possible. but it IS. well, in about a week im moving home for the summer, and im not packing up my lcd's or anything. im done. i saved enough up to not worry about working a lot, and im happy to say, looking forward to not playing anymore. i made a lot of money playing poker, and a lot of friends. but im done with the grind. im taking a 20 day trip to puerto rico with my girlfriend on the 15th, and not looking back. i cancelled my hotel bookings for the wsop events i was going to play in. well, thanks to fcp had fun posting on the forum. and got a lot of help from the strat people. good luck to everybody at the tables. and cheers. ryan.

Wow, what a tough run and I feel for ya man. But if you were able to maintain a good living for that long I wouldn't suggest you quit for good. You obviously have the intangibles needed to "make it" playing cards for a living. Enjoy your time off and get your head straight. After that, I'm sure you can hit the tables hard again.Good luck with your next step, whatever that may be.

Wow, really sorry for your horrible run recently. Are you really quitting for life or just going to take a nice break and come back to it part time ? I wish you good luck in furture endevours either way. I just can't imagine never playing again..........and especially not if I had been so successful for so long. Have you considered playing just for fun and having a regular job ? Have an awesome time in Puerto Rico....20 days !!! I am so jealous of that !
