Besides Being Howard Lederers Sister, What Has Annie Duke Done?

Recommended Posts

Well, I guess I will have to give a woman's point of view who has either played online with some of these women or actually played with them at cash games and/or tournaments (Ladies WSOP 2005), in Vegas, California, and Indian casinos. In my view of the women in our sport, they vary from game to game:FOR OMAHA: I think that as far as Annie Duke goes, NO ONE can match her skill woman-wise, meaning she is definitely the best female OMAHA player and even better OMAHA-8B. She can take this Omaha game to men, proving this when she beat a large field of men for the 2005 WSOP OMAHA bracelet.CASH GAME SPECIALIST: As far as cash games, hands down Jennifer Harman gets my vote here. She plays at some of the highest limit games and has the expertise, as Daniel says to play the various revolving games, (not just HOLD EM, HOLD EM, HOLD EM). I have not had the opportunity to play with her more than once, as my bankroll doesn't allow me to play in those games often and at the time when I was in Vegas for a longer period of time than usual, I heard Jennifer Harman was very sick and skipped several events. However, I did get to play with her once last year at a WSOP event and she was amazing and so skilled. It is nice to see a female player that the male species actually respects.TOURNAMENTS: I like several ladies as far as tournament pros that I think lead the pack about all the others. My first pick would have to be Kathy Leibert. I actually played with her last year at the WSOP in the woman's event. She was very good and at least made it to the money. I think her play and results though in some of the bigger buyin games and tourneys that she has one in the past have shown her to be quit an experienced and gifted female player. She was the first woman to win over a million dollars in a poker tourney, that says something. Additionally, although all of you always RAZZ her here, she doesn't deserve that, she is one of the nicest, easily approchable, but she can bring another side of her out on the poker table, as you have all seen, especially playing against women. She can almost be retaliatory toward women. What is even more important, is that MEN actually lay down and play her as an equal, not like a BIMBO, which she definitely is NOT.Another tournament players that I think have tremendous skills is Cindy Violette. I feel she goes through runs of being more successful than others, look at her year to year stats, but playing against here she is a very feared and respected players by the MEN and WOMEN. She has had some results to be proud of, bracelet, and cash game success, but I think the next WSOP is going to show us something even more about this very skillful lady.I have not played with Evelyn Ng and I don't like to comment on people that I have not played with personally or know personally, but I am sure if Daniel has grown up and they have taught each other poker, then I am sure that she is good, if he respects her play.As far as Clownie Gowen, I have only played one tourney with her and she seems like a very skilled and respected players, however, I don't think she gets enough time to be out there, meaning to play the high limits games and all the tourneys, and if she was, we would see big results. Now Mercier on the other hand, what I have seen of her I think she is very skilled and might evolve into being on of the best poker players yet, but I have only seen her involved in tourneys and not much cash play, not high limits. As far as Jennifer Tilley, I played with her last year and she seems to play a lot like someone that was taught by a man (Phil Laak) and that is to be very very aggressive, at that event, her players had no clue as to how to handle her all in, all in, all in, and beating them up with the big stack, but I thought she did great. However, of late, I think she is proving that she can hold her own and is slowly learning all the nuances and picking up the pros tips they are giving playing with her on Poker Superstars, etc. and with Phil Laak's help also, it seems that she will just improve. I think right now that player that will be coming into her own and will be the one to watch at this years WSOP is Mimi Tran (pupil of Barry Greenstein). She was already a good player, but seems to be improving at every turn and if her poker luck will start running again right around the WSOP time, there will be some great results for her.Lets also not forget our lady player, Barb Enright, who finished the highest woman EVER of the main event. Barbara Enright may just surprise us and make her way back through the huge field in 2006's main event to make it to the final table. She also holds three WSOP bracelets, 2 in ladies events 7-card stud, and one in pot-limit holdem, additionally holding many more poker titles. This year, I am going to ask Daniel if I can personally run a WSOP pool/poll this year JUST for ladies and their personal results and how they are placing in the WSOP, etc., and then we can see who indeed has the best results and who are the best female players in the world, if not THE FEMALE WSOP best.Hope this helped those of you who don't know much about the ladies from someone who has played against most of them some, the are frankly all very tough.WOOWOOO LOOKING FORWARD TO THE WSOP!!!!Lorrie

Annie Duke was the 2nd to 5th best woman player in the world. After her divorce, she trimmed her monster 70s bush on the advice of some friends, in preparation for the singles scene. It was her mojo. She'll be back after 4-6 years when the chia returns. Mark my word.
That is the hardest I've laughed on this site. Well done, SNB...

Does anyone think in 5 years or so we'll see 2-3 females who grew up on online poker make a big splash at that year's WSOP?And, can you really compare tourney play with cash play? Really , two different worlds of poker, and I think the "poker boom" has increased the quality/numbers of tourney poker far and away past that of cash games, although both have risen.
