Sucked Into Blackjack Trap

Recommended Posts

I know, this is foolish and as anyone could predict I lost close to $2k playing Blackjack at party over the past 6 months. What is worse, I let a bad Blackjack session put me on tilt in my tournament and went from top-10 in chips with 100 left in $30+3 MTT to busting out 3 short of the bubble. I have rectified the situation the easiest way I know how, I no longer play on sites that offer Blackjack. In case you could not tell I am not much in the way of discipline and it is just easier if blackjack is not an option. Does anyone have a similar story/experience? Yes I am prepared for the flames that this will inevitably bring.

Just stop it!

Stop it! Stop it! Stop it! Just stop doing it!
It's beyond my control. I have a problem.

Is there such thing as a good blackjack session?I've had a self-admitted tilt problem. My form of tilt doesn't effect my gameplay but will result in me playing way out of my bankroll. So far so good as far as getting rid of the problem. I started a blog for accountability and realized my potential if I could just play correctly. That being said there's always going to be some sort of temptation. Getting away from sites that offer blackjack isn't treating the problem, it's treating the symptom. I know it's much easier said then done but you simply need to find the discipline or just count any money you deposit on a gambling site as a loss.

There is a way to remove PartyBlackjack from your computer and still have the poker there. Search 2+2 for it, as its been posted there a few times.
I know, but unfortunately it is just as easy to put it back as it is to remove it. Thanks for the advise though.

Work on the discipline aspect of your game... that's pretty crucial, although I don't know what limits you are playing at. If you don't have any discipline you could well be posting here in a few weeks/months, "I'm broke."

Yeah definetly leave it off your computer and tell yourself you can't win at Party BJ, because you really can't in the long run. I am glad I learned my lesson and will never play that again.

same lame story...Went to Tunica last week (wed-fri)...played poker at the gold strike..There were tons of regulars there, but i was still up enough to pay for all of trip and have a little money left over (goal is to make my poker trips be free or slightly profitable...just love to play).Decide to take a break from the poker tables..Visit blackjack table.get slightly up.start betting biggerDig holequit down $300 bucks...not a big deal, but really stinks because every trip to casino with poker has been free/profitable until I played Blackjack.Think I'm just gonna not play blackjack or only play with'free' money that i don't mind losing.much like daniel's blogs about golf...(and some slamming him for betting and losing tons of golf)...seems gamblers have problems gambling sometimes.I feel your pain (though it's not as big as yours is..)E

i don't f.ucking get it. What is the goddamn temptation of playing a game that you know you're gonna lose. I don't get tempted to beat my face with a f.ucking shovel. I don't get tempted to throw my wallet out of a moving car. Don't you like winning and not like losing? What the f.uck. I've never responded to one of these threads but I felt the need to because they piss me off to no end. It's really easy. Every time you have the temptation to play blackjack, do this instead. Take your wallet, empty the money, light a fire, and throw all the bills in the fire. You will soon learn that blackjack is about this fun, which is really not all that fun. F.uck, this pisses me off. just don't do it, it's really not hard. Sorry for the rant.erac

it's pretty a common abnormal human behavior to do destructive things. Some people aren't comfortable with success, and playing BlackJack is a way to punish yourself for othewise easy money playing online poker against inferior players. self-sabatoge.

Had this convo with Zach the other day.We could be saynig this to the majority of poker players as well.I propose that the average poker player loses more playing 3/6 than he does playing $5 BJ, if he plays BJ by the book. THe exact $$'s are irrelevant, but the point is still valid.

what I said is not bs.some people feel guilty and uncomfortable with success and constantly put up roadblocks..
It's a huge load of bullshit when it's used regarding the general public. That can be true for specific cases, but to make a blanket statement like that is ludicrous. Don't play psychologist on here. It's unbecoming.
don't fix my posts, you don't know me like that.
I'm really hoping this was a joke.

I actually agree with most of what you say. Figures, because I typically agree with your hand analysis in strat post. I have been known to behave "destructively" with my finances before due to some guilt. I will explain myself to illustrate actuary's point and am sure the flames will come...Upper-middle class upbringing, parents paid for my school and after college I luckboxed into a GREAT job in Casino industry in Vegas. I am currently in my early 20s, own a house, 2 cars, and am very stable financially. However when I go out with friends who are not as "fortunate" as I am I feel guilty and feel the need to pick up the tab for dinner, drinks, bottles at club, etc. I do on some conscious/unconscious level feel like I do not deserve the success I have so I continually find myself "burning" money, and it is a habit I need to stop. Typically I played BJ in the past with "Free Money" after making a decent score in a tournament, maybe I subconsciously gave the money back because of my guilt, or maybe I am just a degenerate gambler. Either way, I am trying to get my problem under control and hope these posts help others the way they have helped me.....flame away!

I've been there. I've quit BlackJack many times. Been cold turkey for a few months now. I get tempted to play because I remember all the time that I won a grand or a couple of grand in a matter of minutes but forget all the times that I lose huge. Now, if I ever get the urge, I summon up the bad memories and I don't play.

I cant imagine what it'd be like to enjoy "gambling". :club: But i have tons of friends with gambling problems. Im always the one holding the money that they tell me not to give back to them until we get home. And im pretty millitant about not giving it back. I punch them in the ribs if they try and con me into letting them have it, unless it's for food. Then it's just a punch in the arm.
