Wa Law: 5 Years In Prison For Gambling Online

Recommended Posts

"Online gambling has been an ongoing legal issue for the federal government, but Washington State has recently decided to take matters into their own hands. The Seattle PI reports, 'Beginning next month [June 7th], Washington residents who play poker or make other types of wagers on the Internet will be committing a Class C felony, equivalent under the law to possessing child pornography, threatening the governor or torturing an animal. Although the head of the state Gambling Commission says it is unlikely that individual online gamblers will be targeted for arrest, the new law carries stiff penalties: as much as five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.'"http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/271844...tml?source=mypi

It there is any reason to bomb city hall....here it is. I know that the will never track it or really enforce it. But seriously do politicans even talk to people on the street or the people they represent. This bill passed like 44 to 3 or something like that. There even was a quote from someone who said "Welsh is considering taking a wireless computer outside the state Capitol when the law takes effect and playing Internet poker as a protest until he's arrested" taking from the Seattle TimesSeriously this is crap.

a bigger threat I see than the prison, which I don't think that they would give out too often, would be that if they catch you playing 1-2 online they might try to take your house and car as proceeds of crime

This is asinine - how can you compare child porn or torturing an animal to someone playing .01/.02 Omaha. If this doens't get vetoed than there truly is no justice in the world.I can see the future coming - online gaming laws are going to be just as archaic as the drug laws.

There's three people standing side by side. One looking at child porn, one abusing an animal and one playing online poker.Woman, "Oh my god, how can someone do something that cruel and disgusting?"Government, "I know how you feel ma'am, let me go arrest that poker player right now."Woman, "........psycho"

States do not have the power to regulate interstate and international commerce, and I always thought that online gambling of all sorts would fall in that category. This law won't stand for long. You can say that the government always screws things up, but they got one thing right with that whole constitution thing (Art. 1, Sec. 8, Clause 3 - Congress has the exclusive right "To regulate Commerce with foreign Nations, and among the several States, and with the Indian Tribes.")
