Greetings From Vegas!

Recommended Posts

So it's day here in Vegas and I'm totally having a ball. Haven't played much poker due to family activities and taking my girlfriend around town, but am still up quite a bit :)We got in yesterday and me, my brother, mom and my girlfriend did some shopping at Ceasers and pretty much walked around. We went to the Alladin and while my girlfriend was in some make-up store, I went outside and threw a dollar into a penny slot machine. Not really sure what happened, but I bet my first 50cents and after a few minutes of guessing whether the bull or the matador would win in a fight probably ten times in a row, I realized I hit a progressive jackpot. I guessed who would win each time and up top it was flashing "WINNER $714 JACKPOT" and then below said something like "jackpot x 3." So to sum it up, I paid 50cents and took down $2,144.64 in cash.Played some 1/2 at the Alladin that night for about 45-minutes and made about $50. I was scheduled to play in the tourney that started soonafter at 2am. About 60 entrants and I made it down to the final 2 tables but got busted by the big stack when I made a move as the low stack on the button. Can't post much details about it since I only have 1 minute left in this Internet cafe. But just got done playing some Craps at Monte Carlo (where I'm staying) and made about $100 there, so I'm heading to MGM tonight for a few hours of 1/2 and then playing in a $30 tourney at Monte Carlo at 9am tomorrow. The whether here is awesome and I'm having a blast! I get back Tuesday so I'll maybe make another post then or add on to this one.-Ken

Well it was certainly a fun weekend, despite the grueling red-eye flight home, leaving at 1am and not getting home until 9am my time. I played at the MGM Sunday night for only about an hour or two but came out +$50. Couldn't really get in any type of groove but it was still a fun experience. There was this guy at my table who someone said was there for the past four hours (and bought in for $200) and had about $1,200 in front of him. Don't think I saw him lose a pot he played since I sat down. Turns out he's good friends with Joe Bartholdi, the guy who won the WPT Championship for $3.7mil (and said he also got a good chunk of the winnings). If you look in Card Player magazine at the article, the guy at my table is in one of the pics of everyone picking Bartholdi up after he won.Anyways, I was planning on playing the 9am tourney at Monte Carlo, and didn't wake up until 9:01. Threw on some pants and went downstairs and I was able to get in just as it started. Turns out that website everyone gave me with the tournament schedule is inaccurate for many tourneys. It said this one was $20 + $10 buy-in with $2000 starting chips, but it was a $40 with 1,000 in chips. I was soaring pretty good until one hand guy in mp made it $300 to go at 50/100 blinds. I called with KQ on the button and utg+1 called. Flop came something like QJ7 rainbow. utg+1 checked and mp went all-in for $300 more. I raised it to $600 and the other guy went all in for $800. I called, obviously and he turned over AJ and all-in showed 99. Turn was a rag and river was a dreaded A, putting me on the shortstack. Was all-in the following hand with 1010 and AQ caught trip queens and I was out.Didn't do much playing after that. Sat down at a 1/2 table 4-handed, winning my buy-in for the tourney back but had to leave shortly since I forgot to check-out and it was past 11am.And no I didn't find any Arby's but ate some other good places instead. We went to "Ah Sin" at Paris for some chinese on Sunday. Monday I went to FatBurger, which was absolutely delicious! Also ate at PF Chang's at the Alladin and the Harley Cafe.Had a lot of fun this weekend, spent a lot of money on food, etc and still came home with $2,000 because of the jackpot win.Oh yeah, and I went to the Mandalay Bay and watched Amir Vaheti play heads-up at the final table of the WPT $1,000 circuit event. It was on the very corner table in the poker room so I was able to stand just a few feet behind him at the rail and watch for a little bit. Not sure who ended up winning since I left before it was over but it was still great to watch. Went to many of the other poker rooms on the strip and didn't see one familiar face, however.Lastly, do you Vegas people not believe in grass? What's with the rock backyards?

Arizona and Nevada are pretty much the same. Our landscaping in AZ consists of rock , sand, dirt, cactus, and palm trees. It's kinda nice once you get used to it.Congrats on the one armed bandit win !!

Sounds like a great trip thanks for the post. Nothing like hitting a 2K+ win for like a dollar I think you said. With regards to the rock gardens, Vegas is in the middle of the freaking dessert and it's expensive as hell to water grass in that weather. Some cities have even passed ordinances limiting the amount of grass you can have because of fears of water shortages. Also many Vegas golf courses water with "brown" or recycled water again because of all the water they use, using fresh water would really put a strain on the cities water supply.

Thanks for the info. Just seemed that having a nice backyard would be tough to come by because of those regulations. I went to my step-brothers new condo in Henderson and his backyard is one small pad of cement and everything else is just rocks. Seems like that would be tough on his dogs to play around in.I'm so glad I got lucky and won that jackpot with my 50 cents, it really made the weekend much more easygoing and relaxing. I gave my mom the 2.1k to hold on to and I just used the original cash I brought for food, souveneirs, and gambling. Spent every last dollar of it and it felt great knowing I still had 2k waiting for me when I got home :club:

Nope, I woulda recognized him. If you have Card Player magazine, go to page 48 and look at the picture on the left. He's the one right below Bartholdi's head, wearing the dark long-sleeve with green stripes. He's also this guy that has his back facing the camera with the green stripes. (Sorry, only pic I could find from the CP website)

So I looked in the Cardplayer mag, and I have no idea who he is either! I wonder how many people had a piece of him in that tourney?
