I'll speak of film and TV when answering this.I think the truth of the matter is that the majority of stuff produced in Hollywood is superior to that of other countries. You'll here it a lot from people of other countries. America knows entertainment.Thats doesnt mean that good stuff isnt produced elsewhere. Things that are done well do make it over here, but they have to be extremely good (not just ok). And thats the reason foreign stuff is in short supply.I watched the Spanish stations here occasionally and watched local TV when I was in China, and let me tell you, I wasnt impressed. They basically resemble the broadcast networks here but not nearly as good (and I hate the broadcast networks here). And many of the shows are copycats of crappy TV shows from the US.Your view of foreign films might also be skewed heavily towards a positive direction. For example, some Hong Kong action movies have made it over here lately. After watching them you might think that Hong Kong movies are great and we need to be watching more of that suff. What you forget is that you just watched a small sample of what they make and you likely saw their very best. Trust me, the usual Hong Kong movie isnt all that great. The arent as well made and stories suck, but every once a while they pull it off.Are we producing bad shows here? Of course, but other countries are producing worse stuff and more of it. I've even seen them copy our bad shows and still not do as good of a job.

This thread is mainly to the people who do not live in the US. Why is it that Americans don't see things broadcast in other countries ? I know this sounds stupid and you're thinking "Americans do !" . I'm not talking about news and general broadcast, but hit TV series and bands , and movies. Like CU in 4 years has a James Gandolphini image, and people all over the world are talking about "LOST" ...I haven't seen a recent band from another country make it big in the states. Why aren't major movies produced in other countries released on the big screen here? Am I just completely naive ?
