Steve7stud & 3 New Poker Students

Over the last few weeks I've gotten a lot of pm's about coaching. I wasn't quite sure if I wanted to coach anyone else at the time. Training/coaching a player takes a lot of time and effort. JC (partypsux), while his training is over, I still talk to him fairly often. I provided him with whatever last minute guidance I could as he crossed over from online into live play. And it was a quick jump, lol. But I have the utmost faith in him.So, now I've decided that it might be fun to coach up to 3 people for a period of six months. Obviously the training will take place online. Most of you don't live in LA, lol. So it will be done via messenger and e-mail.If you're intersted, here are a few things that I need to know. What limits you play? Why you think you need training? What your goals are?I'ts also helpful if you can tell me if your primarily play live or online, what games, etc. Please keep in mind that most poker books can teach you how to win a single session by playing ABC poker. My goal is to teach you how to be a winning player for life.If this is something that you REALLY want, feel free to respond here. Or pm me. Good Luck.Steve

Quick question. I already have a "mentor" so this wouldnt be for me, but Im curious if you are charging or not?
For you Hoosier, it would be at least two to three dollars.

I'll bite. What limits you play?Currently building a proper roll at 0.25/0.50 6-max (see blog if so inclined). Why you think you need training?A day gone by without learning a thing at the tables is a day that you lost, no matter how many pots you've taken down. The more you can learn the better you will be. There isn't a player on this site that could not benefit from commentary from another player of competent (or greater) skill level. Opening yourself to learn from someone else demonstrates a lack of ego that I think ALL players need to achieve before they are ready to TP/MM.What your goals are?You can see my blog to figure out my motivation. I love poker. I want to do something for a living that I enjoy. I want to be able to say "fug it" on a Wednesday afternoon and take the day off. But most importantly, my main motivation is my son. His mother is moving to Illinois (I'm in CA) next year (in Feb 07. but if I pony up $3k in moving allowance that they'd miss out on from the military, he can stay until school starts for his step dad in August/September 07, which I intend to do). I want the option to have a type of employment that will allow me to be near him.My goals specifically at the table is simply to make good decisions. I want to grind up a bankroll the proper way and get back to my roots as a tournament player. I've only played 4 MTT since my awakeningâ„¢ (where I decided to stop playing outside my roll) and I went deep in 3, 1 FT out of 932 (see bad beats for why I didn't win the fugger), 36th (err 38th) of 932, and 4th of 45 (I don't count that as a FT).I'd like to make at least $50,000 by February of '06. I currently have about 20-35 hours per week to dedicate to poker. Unfortunately, I cannot play the amount of hands I want to per day, but am working on it.I'ts also helpful if you can tell me if your primarily play live or online, what games, etc.I play on FT as LJJones and I play some live. I play live mostly because there is so much more information available and a lot more straightforward play. It's more profitable and I enjoy it slightly more than playing online.EDIT: Btw, my name in no way suggests that I'm a poker Master or anything of the nature... it's more of Star Wars reference. LJ is an abbreviation for my RL nick name. My actual initials are RCM... funny how nicknames work sometimes.

I joined your school back in the beginning of the year. I sent like 250. Will that count towards this school. I forgot my password and had to leave town for a month or close to that. Do I still count. I will email my real name if you dont ban me.
If you're talking about Brett's Pro Poker School, absolutley. He and I had some "differences", and I didn't instruct there. Send me a pm and we can talk in greater detail.

LOL. It was a total accident, I was doing a million and two things at the same time, and I accidentally deleted your post. You didn't say anything to offend me at all. It was a great post. Feel free to put more up just like that. Once it's been deleted I can't go back and get it. I do aplogize.

Steve, I would LOVE nothing more than to jump at this opportunity. However, I know I am at a huge disadvantage since I started playing so late (at 37) when most of the forum started in their teens. I will answer anyway, because you never know... you just may pick me for the challenge! What limits you play? I play everything from Micro limits online to $1/$2 NL live or $5/$10 limit live Why you think you need training? Have you seen me play or read my stupid guesses to the quizes? Yeah, I can beat up people who have only played a handful of times or drunks at a home game, but beyond that I have had little success What your goals are? I would love to play in the Ladies event at the WSOP and win it. I know it is not a prestigous event and most of the players are wives and girlfriends who play but it is not their passion, but I think it would be a cool event to participate in and win. I'ts also helpful if you can tell me if your primarily play live or online, what games, etc. OK... I play live every Friday Night in a home game tournament. From time to time I will go out on a Casino Cruise and play limit or in a tournament. I played in a league at a bar 4 or 5 times and I won the last league. Online, I play the lowest of limits. I play an assortment of games. Holdem limit, NL and PL, Stud, Stud Hi Lo, Omaha and O8. I have played (but only a handful of times) Razz, Low ball and Chinese Poker.

My girlfriend is always asking me to teach her how to play poker. I've showed her the basics, but she doesn't "really" want to learn. Theresa, I'll talk to you on messenger.

I vote for Theresa but understand Steve that we are some of the opposition in the FCPHUPL...
