Footballguru 0
Hey all,I am going to college in the fall and my aunt wants to buy me a new computer for graduating Hs/going off to college etc..I was thinking a labtop, so I can bring it to class. I need to be able to play Poker on it, obv, as well as do work. The main thing I am looking for is reliability. I have a Dell now, kinda old, and it will randomly turn off ( i think its becuase I downloaded too much porn though ) Nothing too sophiscating, a good size monitor would be nice, but i dont want a cpu who will freeze when im in the middle of playing a pot, MTT, etc..thanks for your help as for price, its not really an issue, but I dont want to be a shnor (take advantage)

custom36 5
There are a lot of good deals out there. If you only play one table at a time, then you can go pretty cheap. If you need to multi-table, you're going to want to spend a little more for a better system.

We would be willing to spend a little more to make this work...

RMcFadden94 0
Laptops are NOT the way to go for College. Trust me. Everyone always says they will take it to class, but they NEVER do. You are more efficient and better off paying attention to class, writing quick notes, and listening to the professor than trying to type notes on your laptop while being tempted to play poker or surf the web while in class. Also, there has been a movement lately that professors are BANNING laptops within the classroom. Professors have caught students playing poker, surfing the web, etc...PCs just hold up better. Laptops are hard to upgrade, maintain, and IMO are generally pieces of poop. During my years in college I spent countless hours fixing peoples laptops. My wife's current laptop has almost driven me to the point of insanity. When we finally have enough $ to get her a new one, the old one is getting taken out back and riddled with bullets. I kid you not.

Everyone always says they will take it to class, but they NEVER do.I took mine to class in my bookbag every day, but in all honesty, the only time I took it out was on my breaks and during lunch. It's too much of a hassle to open it up during class and annoy everyone with the clicking sound when you type.

NicksDad1970 0
Dell E1705 with the upgraded screen. You can 4 table on that one. I think your resolution needs to be at least 1600x1200 to 4 table. I don't know how many smaller ones have that resolution. I would go to www.dell4me.com . Then build your comp and use this coupon to get 750 off your order. You must build it up to 2000.00 first. So it'll end up being 1250.00.Coupon code = $300 off Select Inspiron Notebooks $999+ (Excludes XPS)Code: QP?K?9CKBV?4B? Exp 5/25 5:59am CT or after 4000 uses$450 off Select Inspiron Notebooks $1499+ (Excludes XPS)Code: 9RLM4149FRBM14 Exp 5/25 5:59am CT or after 4000 uses$750 off Select Inspiron Notebooks $1999+ (Excludes XPS)Code: R3D0GW03LCSZ14 Exp 5/25 5:59am CT or after 4000 usesIf you're serious about this then I'll tell you how to get and use another 35$ and another 2% off of that. I've seen all sorts of tragedy befall my friends with laptops, such as broken screens, random shutdowns, and even some thieving.

Governator 54
Whatever you settle on, treat it well. I've fixed many computers in my time, don't kill it with any peer to peer software or your asking for trouble.I can honestly say those with major computer problems who think buying a new computer will solve everything will have the same issues they have now unless they change their net habits.Good luck

therrinn 0
Don't go with the laptop. You'll never bring it to class, and if you do you'll waste time playing poker on it instead of paying attention. You might use it at the library, but that's the only time. Also, tons of people I know have had their laptops stolen. Dorms, libraries, dining halls, etc aren't the safest places for valuable things like laptops. Even in your own room, who knows when your roommate will forget to lock the door, or you're in the shower and don't hear when someone comes in the room and steals your laptop (both things that have happened to people just down the hall from me). If you do go the route of the laptop, get a small laptop. Since none of what you described is particularly intensive, you don't have to worry too much. Basically, something with a small screen will be great because you can actually lug it around and it won't weigh a ton. In order to go easy on your eyes, by a seperate monitor that you can hook it up to when you're in your room. The money you save on a smaller laptop will easily pay for a decent monitor, and you'll get the best of both worlds.
