swoosh210 0
I was talking to one of the other forum members the other day about the computer he used to play online. As it turns out, he was using a laptop for multi-tabling as most of you probably do. I just thought I would throw out a few options that would make that multi-tabling and even single tabling a easier experience.First off, you need to have a monitor that runs at a 1600x1200 resolution. This means you would either need a 19 inch CRT monitor or a 21 inch LCD monitor. I currently have a 19 inch Viewsonic running at 1600x1200 and I can 4 table with no overlap with all of the poker software out there. You also need a video card that supports that high of a resolution. If your computer is a few years old or is a Dell, HP, ect, chances are you wont be able to get your resolution up that high. Without going into to much hardware detail, you can pick up a video card for about $50-$75 that would work. Sorry to clog up the forum with non-poker related material, but for those who didn't know about this, I thought I might as well throw it out. I couldn't imagine only being able to see one screen and having to keep maximizing windows when multi-tabling. If you want anymore info, just PM me.Peace.
jayistheman 0
i'm on a dell laptop, and i've successfully 5-tabled with just the touch pad... was quite an accomplishment IMOim gonna have to get a better poker machine, and just use this one for the portable porn viewer it is.... swoosh210 0
i didn't mean to imply that multi-tabling wasn't possible. It obviously is. I just meant if your going to sit there for a long period of time, it makes things easier.. Once everyone gets there BR's up to $100,000 from the things they learn on FCP, maybe they can make it happen, haha.
jayistheman 0
it would def. be easier.the worst is when im playing multiple turbo NL tables on prima... 7 seconds per decision is definately hardespecially when i have to enter special amounts to bet
swoosh210 0
i built my computer for between 500-600, plus you can get the monitor i have now for around 200. it's a good investment. dont buy the shitty dell's or gateways. they advertise pentium 4's, but that is about all they have. you need RAM, a good video card and a good processor. jayistheman 0
yeah... i know about all that.. i am a cs major after alli need a powerful machine to compile all of that .NET stuff quickly.i found that the good machines that i work on are good for poker as well..... aside from the monitor specs. At school I have a home built computer thats pretty sweet... On a side note, I just got hired by my local fire station to build them two comps... My cousin has been with them for a while, and mentioned my name, so thats good for maybe $150 that ill charge them... anyone else ever charge to build a comp? How much do you charge? I've built for friends alot, but never charged...
eniven 0
I use my laptop, which is capable of 1600X1200 resolution. Perfect for 4 tables!
Drum Infected 0
Wish I had a laptop so I can play in my bed. Then I would never have to leave my bed!Well maybe too
swoosh210 0
I've built quite a few for family, friends and a few businesses. I usually charge differently depending on who it is. I wont rip off family you know. But I usually charge between $50-$100 per computer. $150 for two is a good deal. If your are going to put the OS on, I would probably charge $200.. Your looking at about 2 hours per computer with the OS installation and drivers.
AKQJs_2o 0
you can get porn on your computer?!?!?! ROTFLMAO~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Post of the Day~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I'm glad I wasn't drinking anything when I read that or I'd have a major clean-up to do right now.BTW, you can get large CRT monitors on Craig's List dirt cheap, everyone is going to flat panel LCDs.I got a two-year-old Dell 19" CRT monitor with a Sony Trinitron Pure Flat picture tube for $50, a few years ago people were paying over $500 for these things. I could've gotten a monster 21" CRT for $95, but I don't want one that huge, I don't have the desk space for it. Try to get a monitor with a Sony Trinitron Pure Flat picture tube and you'll be happy, the older ones are either curved picture tubes (bad) or "vertically flat" (so-so) picture tubes. Link to Craig's List, look in Classifieds under "for sale" and "computers" in your area - http://www.craigslist.org/http://www.craigslist.org/sys/ Example 21" for $100 -http://www.craigslist.org/sby/sys/62848950.html
jayboogie 0
I use a laptop and if you want to play on it, get a mouse. It'll make your life a lot easier not having to use the touchpad, plus you'll bust up the clicker on your touchpad with all the clicking you need to do playing poker. JaysonWeber 0
I posted something similar to this in online poker. I am running a beautiful system right now, and I'm not lying about this system here Chris Bigler can attest to that. It's not the BEST but its close.Built it myself, as buying from companies is a rip off, you get bad HD's MotherBoards, Video Cards etc...Athlon AMD 64 3200+ Asus "A8V Deluxe" Motherboard2 Gigs Kingston HyperX184 Pin (Didnt have the 240 Pin's out at the time) PC-3200ATI RADEON 9800 PRO Video Card, 256MB DDR, 256-bit, DVI/TV-Out, 8X AGP2 80 Gig Seagate HD's19 Inch Samsung CRT Monitor, Upgrading to Dual Monitor soon... I've been told the Dell 20 inch 2001 FP? If thats the newest one is AMAZING. My problem is this, Do I buy 2 19 inch LCDs? or start with one Dell 20 inch LCD? and perhaps buy another one. What I want to be able to do, is 4 table with Poker Tracker up, so 4 tabling unless it was on party would require the one full screen, plus another half of a screen for the GameTime stats.Ideally 2 20 inch LCD's is what I want, to I go with 2 19 LCD's or the 1 20 inch LCD and buy another in the future? I've built for friends alot, but never charged...I have never charged either ... just made for parents and friends. However, i would charge 5-10% markup on parts if they have you buy them (make sure you go to pricewatch and get good prices instead of paying the markups at compusa) ... and then i'd say charge $20 - 25 an hour for your time to put it together and shop. All in all, i'd say your price will be about $100 - 150 (depending on parts) 3 hours at $25 and $50 for parts markup (10% of $500)Thats my suggestion

It cost me 1100. If you price it out on a site that even offers 64 bit Processors (not many of the big ones do) but I priced out the same system on alienware, I am awarethey do a few tweaks but those are all things i could have done for about 150 more. I had all the XP software etc... So the 1100 was a bargain, priced out it would have cost me roughly 3500-4000 to have someone build this for me.It took about a month, as I was buying things when they hit rebates, and I worked at best buy so I got some discounts through that. After I got everything it took about 2 hours to build, It was the first Computer I ever built and A friend and I put it together. I also have an Antec server case which I recomend to people, full towers are great. I can run SO much more than my friends we often have 3 people multi-tabling in my dorm room, and the guys are completely jealous that I can have 10 IE's open (I use maxthon, a IE interface to tab them all, makes navigating easier and zero pop-ups its always nice). I also run Area, iTunes or Media PLayer, Poker Tracker Datamining partypoker (Dont even play there yet, just getting ready) and Datamining 8 tables on UB.The system is amazing really, I don't mean to sound arrogant but I really take pride in it. Its not overkill in my opinion because I built it to last a few years. Its a good thing I built it the way I did, as now that I will be dual monitoring soon, it won't slow me down in the slighest.I am against laptops really, I think they're overpriced and the fact that you can't build them without Extensive knowledge kills it as well. They also simply DONT perform the way desktops do, so if you dont NEEd a laptop, stick with a desktop.I also have 6 fans and the large server case has everything spread out so overheating has never been a problem for me. Not even when I originally played video-games on this and tweaked it, over clocking everything to the my computers max.
