Vegas Trip Report (long, But Hopefully Entertaining)

Recommended Posts

Just got back from Vegas and figured I should give a quick little post about my experiences. I went with my whole family for my wife’s 21st birthday. We stayed down of Fremont Street at the Golden Nugget. This is just a recap of most of the poker playing, but we did a lot of other fun stuff. We got a limo from the airport and believe it was worth it not having to try to rent a car or catch a cab.Day 1Within about 30 minutes of getting there we head across the street to Binions to grab something to eat and my mom hits a royal flush on 25 cent machine and makes a quick grand. A good way to start off a trip.My wife heads back to take a nap so I put in about a 3 hour a session of 3-6 over at binions, and only lose about $40. This is not bad considering I had aces cracked twice on a capped 2-way pot before the flop. Lost one time to Q-10 when the flop came 10-10-2. Next time they had QJ and made two pair by the river.I headed back to the Nugget messed around a little bit with the wife the rest of the night then put in a 2 hour 3-6 session and a 2 hour 1-2 no limit session. Ended up about 50 or 60 after these. Made two decent while playing no limit. First, called a raise with KQ of spades and the flop came 4-2-Q. Guy led out about 50 and folded to me and I thought and pushed all in for about 30 more and he had JJ and dodged a turn and a river. The next time I raised with AK in middle position and only the big blind calls. He was a real nice guy and good player, and defiantly liked to talk. Flop comes K-9-6. He check I lead for 20 and he calls. Turn is a 2, and he go check, check. The river is a 10. He immediately pushes all in for about 69. I think for about 20 or 30 seconds and then fold face up and promptly showed me a set of 6s, and kicking himself for not value betting.Day 2Me and my dad head down to the Bellagio at about 9 in the morning. I jump in a 4-8 game for about an hour and a half. When only one pot with KK, but it was a big one and ended up winning 50 for that session. Saw Chau Chiang, David Singer, and Al Adebeli playing some 3-handed in the high limit section but that was it.Went back to the Nugget and played in a $60 MTT with rebuys and addons with my dad. There were about 45 people. First place was about $1300. The first hour I just cruised and built my stack a little bit. Second hour stayed about the same. 3rd hour we got down to two tables and I got moved directly to my dad’s left who just happen to be leading the table in chips. Stole a pot earlier then as one of the lower stacks I moved all in with AJ and got called by AQ, spiked a jack on the flop and got up to about 12,000 in chips. Dad went out in 10th, with just a bad run of cards. We make it to the final table and I have about 14000 in chips and there are about 150000 chips in play. Top 6 get paid, but we agreed to pay 7th-10th $60 which wasn’t bad. To make a long story short, I ended up making some good moves and doubled through the chip leader with 3 people left. We all had pretty close to the same amount of chips, so we chopped all receiving about 850. Pretty sweet little score for me. The coolest part was they paid us in casino chips, and we got the all black one that they use in High Stakes Poker on GSN for antes, which I thought was pretty cool. There were a lot of people watching as well which made it real fun. Went down to Caesar’s that night and played in 4-8 game that I wished I could have played in all night. One hand of note I was heads up with a guy and the board was J-6-Q-2-4. He check-raises me on the river with 10-6, thinking a I was beat I pay it off with Q9, and almost much my hand because I thought I was beat but was happily surprised when I got pushed the pot. While at Caesar’s I saw Romeo Crenal the head coach for the Cleveland Browns. Went back to the Bellagio just to see who might be playing and I saw Chau Chiang again, who is very very very short, Doug Lee won a world series circuit event, Christ Tsparilis, and ended up sweating out a horse race with David Sklansky right before he went a played some high-limit.Day 3Get a call from my Grandmother at about 8 in the morning, run down to the Casino at the Nugget to find out that she just hit a jackpot on a dollar slot that paid about 4000. Later I put in about a 3 hour session of 3-6 at the Nugget and lost after I kept getting rivered or cold decked. Lost about 100. Later that night we went to the Penn and Teller show at the Rio, which was awesome. Then after the wife went to bed stayed up all night playing in a very friendly and loose 2-4 game at the nugget because I didn’t want to go anywhere else. After about 7 hours I won about $125 and made a lot of friends.Day 4Flew home tired as hell.Comments1. Forgot how provocative everybody dresses in Vegas….lol2. Somebody tell these people to quit wearing sunglasses at the 2-4 table, or to try to make cool comments after they hit a miracle river card.3. Venetian Poker room kicks ***, so does the Bellagio and Caesars.4. Kind of disappointed at the Wynn Poker Room, not sure why.5. Why are some dealers total dicks, but other cool as hell?Sorry this was long, got tired at the end and was just trying to remember everything…

Congrats on the tourney finish.Let me be the first to say INCREDIBLE PLAYS.

Nice report. Sounds like it was a good time.I agree with most of your comments. Can't make a post without taking a shot though....That KQ play wasn't incredible and the AK play was borderline standard as well.... Not to take your thunder away, good job making the right decisions. :club:

Thats fine, dont know why i said incredible, it was a bad adjective...lol...just I was proud of myself, especially knowing I made the right decision and didnt have to wonder, know what i mean?Looking back again, INCREDIBLE was a bad word to use, i am laughin at my self right now for saying that now...

I must comment on this because this kind of things really piss me off. So just because ONE time you called 3 hours before and got 5th row, now suddenly you can call almost anytime and get really good seats?? Why can't you just say that you happened to get good seats 3 hours before, don't generalize and say that anyone can definitely get good seats almost anytime, its just like playing a poker session and winning, and now telling everybody about your new strategy and how you can kill that game and so onYou feel me?? It's just a stupid generalization that you have no idea whether or not it's true, I mean come on man.

Who put sand paper on this guy's toilet seat? Nothing was meant by this generalization, the theatre wasnt even half full for the Sunday night show. I would assume that it is different on Fridays and Saturdays. Ill be the first to admit that we got lucky, I did not mean anything by my generalization. TSwing take a chill pill, have you had a bad experience getting tickets or with Penn and Teller?

Relax, it's only Penn and Teller. Not like he said you could get tickets to see Elvis.

You guys will love vegas. If your any kind of partier/gambler, it's paradise. If you like hot chicks, money, alcohol, beautiful hotels, and food it's the place to be. The best part is walking around trying to spot famous people. ENJOY! It's hard not to.Edit: It's really easy to get Penn and Teller tickets so go ahead and call three hours early you'll get a seat at least 5 rows up.
