Showing Down Your Hand

Recommended Posts

Tried searching, but I didn't see an answer for this one. Not sure why I don't know the answer already quite honestly but I'm curious at this point. When playing a pot and you get through the river whether you have multiple players or not what is the ruling on who has to show their hand first? Is it position relative to the dealer, last person to bet, last person to call or what? Been in so many situations where the best hand is pretty anxious to show it down but I'm curious because I imagine there will be a situation where something gets checked down, or a bluff is called and you don't want to show down. In that situation I'm wondering how the rule comes into play.Pretty basic question I know, but I'm not positive of the ruling so if anyone knows I would appreciate some info.

Basically, If you were the last person to bet, show your hand first, then any callers that want to can show. If it was checked around, either clockwise from dealer, or anyone who thinks they might have won...Just be reasonable, and don't slowroll, and it doesnt matter all that much

Based on my knowledge, if the river is checked, then the showdown goes by position. If there was a bet on river, then the showdown goes to the bettor, then each subsequent caller. Of course, when the showdown reaches a player and he is first to show, he can still muck his cards. But there may be different rules regarding this at different casinos. Just my thoughts on the matter......Alpha

The rule as I understand it is last aggressor must show first.Failing there being a last aggressor it should go by position however inexperienced or otherwise bad dealers will tell everyone to show to speed the game along.

So there is no confusion on this straight forward topic, here is a clip from Cardplayer"If everyone checks (or is all-in) on the final betting round, the player who acted first is the first to show the hand. If there is wagering on the final betting round, the last player to take aggressive action by a bet or raise is the first to show the hand. In order to speed up the game, a player holding a probable winner is encouraged to show the hand without delay. If there is a side pot, players involved in the side pot should show their hands before anyone who is all-in for only the main pot."
