ajs510 122
seriously though aj...what are the cops supposed to do? some drunk kid with $100 in his wallet says he was just robbed by a black guy. i don't doubt some of them are racist and corrupt (and assholes)...but there was nothing they could do in this particular situation.Yes there was. Regardless of their ability to solve the problem, they still could have treated the situation with professionalism and the victim with compassion and respect. Ask any police officer, the first rule that is drummed into their heads is this:"Police work is 10% Law Enforcement and 90% Public Relations"My point is that if it was a 40yo white guy in a suit they would have treated the situation differently. Which is wrong.

Which is wrong. Maybe...If I was in East Los Angeles, and told a group of Hispanic cops that 'some Mexican robbed me', I wouldn't expect the warmest treatment. Or if I said something similar to a group of Asian cops in the Chinatown district of SF. In an ideal world, race/color wouldn't factor into anything at all, but unfortunately people are still sensitive regarding issues like this. You would hope they could act professionally though. fatman 1
Dude, get the **** out of that city immediately. **** the tournament, just go home and wait till there are other good tournaments in a safe place.

Timdog1010 0
This whole situation is fucking pathetic and disturbing. And you wonder why some people hate cops so much. Umm.. I wonder.Disgusting.well, I agree that the cops could've been more sympathetic and professional. But I also agree that there was nothing practical that they could do towards catching the guy and bringing him to justice. If you approach a cop and tell him you been robbed, but cannot offer a description of the assailant, and are still in possession of your wallet (with cash inside), I can underatand them being skeptical... There are plenty of other big tourney series to play. No reason to prolong this trip that seems like has been nothing but total hell for you.
UncleKraut 0
Ok, fair enough. Sorry for questioning you.I got attacked by a guy with a golfclub on the streets of Queens once, and I called the cops. They treated me the exact same way you were treated, it doesn't feel good. I'm trying to tell them that this guy attacked me with a goddamn golf club and they acted like I was wasting thier time. Unbelievable.I get over a third of my paycheck taken away ever week to pay for those retards families to eat. The least they could do is take me seriously, ya know? I was scared half to death and still get jumpy sometimes because of what happened. So, anyway. Sorry for questioning you and I'm sorry you were treated that way by the police. I know how that feels and it sucks. I actually filed a formal complaint with the NYPD(maybe a bad choice?) and they didn't do anything about it either.RyanWhich club did he use? speedz99 145
And 95% of them fail that part of the job.Definately not 95%.Anyways, what can we expect? Law enforcement doesn't really attract the best and the brightest (obviously a generalization)...even though in most cases it's an honorable career choice.

Only I hit the guy on the head with my laptop and screamed till he ran away :)Hope the rest of your trip is a lot calmer and more enjoyable (or at least safe). Best of luck if you decide to go back to the tables.

Law enforcement doesn't really attract the best and the brightest (obviously a generalization)...even though in most cases it's an honorable career choice.you've definitely never been to Indianapolis, or you would agree with me.all the cops care about here is pulling in traffic tickets, no matter how minute, and providing more tax dollars.there's also a specific town in southern illinois that would pull you over for walking too fast. MJINK3 0
It's a joke the way cops do their jobs everywhere. I wanna know how cops can live with themselves. Around here they stand around at the gas station, drink free coffee, and talk on their cell phone all day. On top of that 75% of them are overweight. Which translates to either them being too lazy to chase bad guys, losing the chase if they do chase, or putting themselves in danger by not being in the shape they should be. I just don't understand it. But yet I have to pay for them to talk to their girlfriends all day, the cheatin bastards.
Crackem 0
If I were you I would of gone down to the police station and filed a report after getting the officers names and badge numbers involved. Theres no reason that you should have been treated the way you were by the police. You are a tourist and a victim in there shithole of a city that is begging for tourism. Kuge 0
Statistics 101, sad but true. I saw the post but left it alone because he's right. Uncouth and looking for attention, but the fact part is there. That may be true, but the other half of the story is that a good portion of minority crimes that are committed use usually done by the same group of people in those areas. As a matter of fact, the families if lower income urban areas tend to be very close and don't commit crimes, its just the same group of people (yeah I know I repeated myself, but its to get the point across, this info was taken from my Social Problems class book and teacher...so I cannot provide a link, sorry). I had just gotten robbed, why the **** make me out to be the bad guy in this?Oh yeah, sorry to get off topic with my last post, but seriously...good thing you are okay, I've never been mugged but my brother has when he went to a car show in Chicago a couple of years ago. The cops basically did the same thing to him as to what you described, it was seriously weak. But you know what you should do? Contact 20/20 and Dateline NBC and give them your story, and when you tell them your story mention that the other news show is considering doing the story...it's fullproof. Then expose those NOPD bastards (the corrupt ones at least, I know this guy who was at NO when Katrina came by, some of them actually broke down ATM's and took all the money from them...sigh... finztotheleft 0
I'm really sorry to hear about what happened to you Party. Very glad you are okay !I agree with ajs. Even though catching the guy might have seemed remote to them, it is the policeman's job to take your statement (get description, even if brief, review the scene of the crime, etc) and offer some support. Very sorry to hear the cops that you encountered just made the situation worse. When you get home, you should write a scathing letter to the police dept. there. Maybe they'll learn to treat the next crime victim a little kinder
