Just turned 21 this month. Will be heading out to Vegas come tomorrow, staying till Friday. Will be my first trip. Anyone have any suggestions as where to start playing poker? Which casino poker rooms do you prefer? I'm not taking too much money, something around the $300 mark. Looking for good tournaments or a good place to play some no limit. Any advice is appreciated. Sarcasm is welcomed....

Any tournament I can find in Vegas will suck? Elaborate please...I ask because I'm used to the lousy tournament at a local casino where the blinds jump from 200-400, to 500-1000, and double from there every 15 minutes. It's horrible. No room for betting. It just becomes an all-in fest. Apparently they just want to end the tournament quickly to start the cash games and gain more rake. I was hoping somewhere in Vegas would offer something better than that. I mean, I KNOW there has to be something. Anything around a $30 buy-in? Maybe not... Like I said, it will be my first trip.

The structures are horrible on the cheap tournaments out there. They are all pretty much turbos until you find tournaments that are in the $100 and up range. I played in the Caesars $130 day time tournament and the structure was great. I played in the MGM $65 tournament and the structure looked good on paper but it really sucked. There are lots of threads on Vegas tournaments. I got most of my info from Pupsta and he did not steer me wrong.

Those are the kinds of tables I prefer. My local casino is Morongo (the casino where Poker Superstars was filmed), and it's sad because they offer a 1-3 NL $100 max. Barely above 30/bb. To make matters worse, they drop $3 to the house and $1 for the jackpot, losing $4 every hand from the table. I'd love to play at a table where I can start at 100/bb. Thanks for the info.

play at mgm. you'll make money if u play tight
Yeah that is true. The first time I ever played live was at MGM. Get on the 1-2 NL. Buy in for $100, play tight and wait for them to hand their money over to you when you have a hand. Also if you get on the right side of the poker room you have a great view of the tigers while playing. :club:

plaza hotel downtown lets u buy in for 40 dollars at there 1/2nl game when it is running. as for tournaments there are none in th 30 dollar range that arent a total crapshoot. the wynn offers 80 dollar single table(2 seats get in) satelites to there very good 330 tournaments so you could try for a nice parlay. plaza also offers 35 dollar sit and gos if i remember. othere than that its slim pickens for your bankrolland remember just about everything in vegas is expensive so its not chjeap to eat anything but fast food. i hope u get lucky and report a big win

Anyone ever played at the Monte Carlo poker room and have any opinions on it? I'm leaving for Vegas in about a week and half and that's where I'm staying. Also what do you guys think of their tournament that's posted on that link. How's the structure, buy-in, payouts, etc?

For starters, you have 300 dollars, your not going to find any decent tournaments without putting a sizeable chunk up for a buy in.Secondly, what game exactly do you want to buy in for 30bb, you only have $300. In conclusion, if your not going to play too much poker and dont care if you lose that 300 pretty quickly you should just go play a small no limit game, but if you want to play a lot of poker a make a little money, go play the 1-3 limit game at the excalibur or a similar one with extremely bad players. Have fun and good luck.

I'm actually staying at the Excalibur so I'll definetily be checking the poker room there. While $300 is not much, I absolutely do not want to lose. I don't prefer a game where I can only buy in 30/bb at max. I'd like to have at least 50/bb... at least. Someone suggest the MGM in which I can find a good 1-2 NL game. I'm leaning towards that to start my trip. Sounds like they have a good room as well. As for tournaments, I might try some smaller buy-ins to win my way a satellite entry. I'll report how I did once I return. Good times....
