Underground Chip Chops

Recommended Posts

As some people know Paul Phillips and Mel Judah chopped the Bike main event for WPT season 2. Paul looked like an idiot on TV for donking the last hand, even though the money was already decided. The WPT had a cow and announced no more chops (one of the many things they have done to piss off the players). They thought it would ruin ratings. Paul said that this wouldn't end deals it would just push them underground. Which brings me to last night's WPT. The Grinder and Scotty obviously chopped. The way the last hand was played and the way they both acted after the money went in was hysterical. Its a good thing they aren't actors.Just so I can get all the flaming away in one thread . . .I also think that there was a deal at the WSOP ME 2005 when It got down to 3 handed. Tex had plenty of chips and had an easy fold when he decided to go with a doomed squeeze play with A7. Then the way Danneman laughed his way to second and his horrible call at the end, no way were they playing for three million there.I don't think that WSOP has a no deals policy but I could be wrong about that. Tex could've been tired and Danneman could really be that bad, but I think the WPT last night was an obvious chop.

Good post, man. I'll definately keep an eye out for it when I see it. Thanks for the heads up.

I dont think they have a rule against it. I remember reading that mark seif and minh Nguyen made a deal at this event:http://www.cardplayer.com/poker-tournament...ent.php?id=23452005 36th Annual World Series of PokerEvent: No-Limit Hold'emEvent Date: Friday, June 24th, 2005 @ 2:00PM

I didnt get to see last nights WPT... they showed the Aruba Classic with Freddy Deeb... will check this out when it airs.
That almost happened to me, but I checked the schedule. The travel channel apparently has a new schedule. The play the new episode a 6:00 pacific (before I get home) then they replay last week's from 8:00-10:00 and show the new episode again at 10:00. I used to watch at 9, and actually changed from the Clipper game last night, but saw last weeks episode was on, went to check what was up, then found out. It worked out well, since the Clipper game was essentially over at 10:00.

thanks for adding to the discussionIt's a serious question.Do you actually care? If so, why? Do you care if the whole final table agress to chipequity it out before they even start playing? Why?good luck

I agree with the OP 100%. Well almost. The WSOP ME used to allow deals, but I'm unsure about current policy. Dannenmann really was a donk but the last hand is still very suspicious. Don't know about 3-handed chop though, I guess possible. IIRC Tex was pretty low and A7 3-handed on a short stack isn't horrible. Re: WPT -- Scotty had yet to win one after trying for so long so I think Grinder let him have it after what was mostly likely an even chop. Scotty was probably also slightly buzzed, that may help explain his magnanimous attitude somewhat.

It would explain some of the calls made in the last 30 minutes of the WSOP... As for why anyone would care - if someone cares enough to watch the event, wouldn't it just naturally follow that they care if the ending was played out without outside influence? We might never know, but it seems pretty obvious as to why it'd be a discussion point.

Gavin seemed more buzzed than Scotty. I imagine Scotty had a couple, but Gavin seemed way out of it.

When we're on the subject...Before the protégé final table began, I made a deal with Brian Fidler. I would try and pass him most of my chips early, and if he won we'd split whatever he won in the four major tournaments, if anything. That's the reason I was taken away. Mr. Negreanu caught us colluding, but decided to make me the only scapegoat. I'm old and he thought he could make up whatever excuses for my disapperance afterwards. There, I've said it. Do you worst Mr. Negreanu, now that I have revealed your scam.- Jerry Carmichael

Tex had 7 million and the other guys were over 20 a piece. However the stakes were 150/300/50 when he pushed over the top of a raise and a call with A7. I think it was like a 4-5 million raise into a 2-3 million pot The way he played the whole final table (tight) this was completely out of character.

True. Thanks for pointing out the numbers, I stand corrected. I will have to check it out again, I'm convinced there was at least a 2-way chop but still unsure about Tex.
