Who Has Played With Daniel Negreanu Live?

Just wanted to know if anyone ever played or remembered playing with Daniel during his days before becoming famous. I hear that he played in charity casinos around Toronto. Can anyone shed some light or funny stories??Did anyone think he would be this good?I wish they had charity casinos now, as opposed to us driving an hour away to play a live game. Like to hear other people's thoughts.

They DO still have charity casinos in ontario...and I DO have to drive an hour to get to one...it sucks. Wish I was older when DN was playing at them.

i have a few friends who played with him (or so they say, i dont see a reason for them to lie though) 10 years ago or so, when i was just a wee lad all they really say is that he played really tight they were playing 10\20 at the time. They dont speak very highly of his play....mind you these guys are the fish in that game LOL. Except for one guy named Jimmy who says he still talks to him fairly often and says they are good friends only had good things to say about him. I met a guy a couple months ago who used to play with him back in the day. He had nothing but good things to say and was "proud" to see the "little good guy make it big".Then he proceeded to kick my @ss at our N/L game. B)Edit: had to clean up the spelling, etc. of the post, it's early.

loli remember those charity casinos. they use to travel around the city. unfortunately, i only played like a total of 2 sessions of hold'em during those days, mainly was into the blackjacks.

First post! Ive been lurking since October 2004. Not much of a poster- could ya tell?I played with DN regularly not only at the Charity casinos, but at my home game in my kitchen. He was a superior player back then- even at 16 when he began playing in my home games, and a smart dominant player at the charity casino tables when he bacame of age. He played daily, and always had plenty of chips- rarely from rebuying. It was a good feeding ground for DN to hone his skills.We also played in a regular tournament in an underground poker room called the Raisin Room. It was a small buy in with rebuys for the first hour. My fondest memory was being at the table beside his, and in the first hand he goes all in without looking at his cards. At showdown he has like 8 high or something ugly like that and loses. He yells out: CHIPS ONE TIME FOR DANIEL!The record for rebuys was 12 or 13 prior to that night. Daniel rebought 38 times en route to winning the event that night. ( i think he won it)He was cocky as a teen, but friendly, and polite. I enjoyed playing with a player as poker savvy, and skilled as he was for his young age.I went to Vegas in December of 2004. I had emailed him to tell him i was coming into town, and said that i would look for him to come and say hi. I railed him on December 16th or 17th at the Belagio. When he saw me, he immediately came over and shook my hand and said hello. When the hand was completed that won him the Player of the Year, the cameras were flashing, the tv crews were all over the place and the place was buzzing. The first thing he did was come over to me, meet my girlfriend and pose for a picture with me for my son who is a big fan.The man was, is, and always will be a class act in my book.CHIPS ONE TIME FOR DANIEL!

I used to play with Daniel regularly back then.Somebody mentioned that he played tight. Whoever said that didn't play with him.The charity casinos would open at noon and if I was there before Daniel I would save him the seat to my right so we could talk hockey pool and so that I'd have position on him.It was obvious to anybody with a clue that he had a special talent for the game that others didn't have. My FCPHUL teammate, lindros88, used to play with Daniel and Evelyn but I'm not sure whether he'll post about it.He prefers being unknown which is why we don't refer to each other by our real names online.I'll check and see if he wants to throw in a story for the forum.

Ah the Raisin' Room - what fond memories!But you never mentioned his styrofoam cup!!!He used to always - I mean ALWAYS play with an empty styrofoam cup hanging from his mouth.Those tournaments at the raisin room were crazy - $25 entry with $20 rebuys - and we used to guarantee $1000 for first place even tho there was never more than 20 players. Usually 5 spots were paid.One of my favorite DN stories comes from those tournaments - there was 15 minutes left in the rebuy period and he is short stacked.He throws down a stack of $20 bills and says: "I have to go to the bathroom - I am all-in every hand until I get back or I win one"and BTW - mcc2005 - Daniel didnt win the tournament where he rebought 38 times - I remember him saying he needed 2nd to only lose a little.........I am pretty sure he finished 3rd in that one lol

He says to me:"I am LEADING!....unless a 5 hits, I win this pot"Well, sure enough a 5 hits the river - Geroge bets, Daniel folds.George turns his hand over.Daniel was ahead with 7 high and got rivered by a 5.

From reading all this, it seems like DN was a loose aggressive style player who is willing to take risk. When he mentioned in his blog that he was going to be in the front row for Sacremento games. He mentioned on the chat that he and Ivey were betting on what foot Daniel was hiding a coin. From reading his blogs, it seems he likes to gamble, gambles on movie selection, how much food you can eat in 5 min., etc. It just sounds like a real gambler!!!! Funny thing is he's from Toronto!!! amazing!

Yeah pretty much every single card club in Toronto you play at, you'll run into somebody that has claimed to have played with Daniel back in the day. The place Daniel used to play at called Funtime still has games running these days. The stories are usually all the same, Daniel was a re-buy machine who reloaded more than anyone else.

I'm pretty sure it's still going, perhaps under a different person running the game. The chips used in play were old and had Fundtime on them.

Fundtime was the most professional of the charity casino operators. What's probably happened is whoever they sold their chips to when they closed down is using the name for their undergroud club.
