FCP Bob 1,321
Wow, 7 seasons and a movie...added. Lotta work ahead. You should also add The Corner which was a 6 part mini-series to your list as well that I probably mentioned in this thread earlier. It's also set in Baltimore and was also written by Simon and Burns.http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0224853/fullcredits

I'm currently watching Monk and Dexter on DVD while watching 24, Lost, and the Office weekly. I also intend to catch up on Prison Break (I haven't seen since a few weeks into the current season) and Heroes (same thing and I've heard it may have jumped the shark but I'd still interested. timwakefield 68
You should also add The Corner which was a 6 part mini-series to your list as well that I probably mentioned in this thread earlier. It's also set in Baltimore and was also written by Simon and Burns.http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0224853/fullcredits Absolutely. It also co-stars Lester Freamon from The Wire. And yeah, Homicide: Life on the Streets is great, especially the first few seasons (even in spite of Daniel Baldwin). IIRC the pilot is the Adena Watson case. It's kind of the seminal episode of the series, and keeps coming up again and again. Gus (Clark Johnson), the main newspaper character in season 5 of the Wire stars in every season of HLOTS, and he's outstanding. It's probably the best cop show I've seen, and I watch a lot of cop shows. The Wire of course is a lot more than a cop show. I think this might be my favorite trivia or whatever from Homicide - "Meldrick Lewis [Clark Johnson] was often found in the series telling a "bear in the woods" joke, where a hunter shoots at a bear and misses, causing the bear to catch the hunter and force sex on him. The scene repeats with slightly different circumstances, until the bear catches the hunter and asks, "You don't come here to hunt, do you?" Pieces of the joke can be heard throughout the series, and as a director Clark Johnson has thrown the joke into movies he has directed, including The Sentinel. Jay Landsman is heard telling the punchline in an episode of The Wire."The main point is that you only hear bits and pieces of it, and have to piece it together yourself across like 7 seasons to figure out the punchline.Oh, and of course it has Detective Munch aka Richard Belzer. Oh, and friggin Melissa Leo who just got nominated for the Best Actress oscar stars in the first 5 or so seasons, and is great.Lastly, I watched Generation Kill last month, and it's really good. 7 episodes, David Simon. Also Ziggy, who is fantastic in it.

thehidden 0
Yay the best show on tv is back on. Only seen episode 1. LOL at pretending the photocopier is a lie detector.that was an homage to Homicide. It was done on season one. Great scene involving Ned Beatty, Richard Belzer and a 'yo' who eventually became the black lawyer on that show with Camerine Manhime. They did the EXACT same thing. LOVE IT!

LOVE IT!Yeah I think there's a few other scenes or ideas in the Wire that were originally on Homicide, but that's definitely the most memorable. I also made a post a page or two ago listing all of the actors from the Wire who were on Homicide, and it's like 20 people.

Don Giovanni 0
i met kima and lester today bitches. kima lives a few blocks away from me apparently. oh yea, and season 1 is the best season of this show, despite what most people say.

Where do you live? Did you call them Kima and Lester? Did you meet them at a party or something, or was this an impromptu sidewalk-sighting? I can't think of any other good questions. DID YOU TELL THEM THEY'RE AWESOME?Oh also completely related - I'm reading David Simon's book Homicide. It's obviously really good, even though I already know what's gonna happen half the time. Anybody else read it? Maybe I'll copy a short passage later.
timwakefield 68
From David Simon's book: "YOU'RE A LYING BITCH," Landsman shouts, slamming the office door against its rubber stop. "DO YOU THINK I'M STUPID? DO YOU FUCKING THINK I'M STUPID?" "What did I lie about?" "Get the fuck out of here. You're charged." "Charged with what?" Landsman's face contorts into pure rage."YOU THINK THIS IS BULLSHIT? DO YOU?"The girl says nothing."You just got a charge, you lying piece of shit.""I didn't lie.""Fuck you. You're charged."The sergeant points the woman toward the small interrogation room, where she slumps into a chair and stretches her legs up over a Formica table. The miniskirt rides down toward her waist, but Landsman is in no mood to enjoy the fact that the woman wears nothing under her skirt. He leaves the door slightly ajar as he yells to Pelligrini across the squadroom."NEUTRON THIS BITCH," he shouts before closing the soundproof door to the small interrogation room, leaving the girl to wonder what sort of technological torture awaits. A neutron activation test requires only a painless swab of the hands to determine the presence of barium and antimony, elements deposited after a handgun is fired, but Landsman wants to leave her stewing on it, hoping she's in that box imagining that someone's about to irradiate her until she glows. The sergeant slams his open palm against the metal door one last time for proper emphasis, but the rage is gone even as he walks back into the main office. A staged performance - more vintage Landsman - delivered with gusto and sincerity for the lying bitch in the yellow miniskirt.

timwakefield 68
http://www.boston.com/news/local/massachus...s_a_connection/For almost a year, one of the show’s stars has been working with a Boston community activist to create a curriculum based on “The Wire’’. The program would gather a group of young people already involved in the criminal system or at risk of being drawn in, and for at least five hours a week for at least six weeks, show them episodes. Don't read if you haven't finished the series obv.VICE: Then I looked behind me and saw a Homicide: Life on the Street Season 5 jacket and was like, “Fuck. That’s David Simon.” Next thing I knew some guy was cutting in front of us and you unleashed on him. You asked him if he thought he was the Queen of England. DS: Well, just don’t cut the line. You know? I found that guy afterward.Good stuff. I'm absolutely stealing the Queen of England line next time I find a good use for it. It's a perfect balance of 'hilarious' and 'degrading.' timwakefield 68
A couple more short passages from David Simon's book, Homicide: A Year On The Killing Streets, which I really cannot recommend enough. These quotes are all from the afterword, author's note, epilogue, etc. They won't ruin anything in the book though, if you haven't read it or watched the series. In retrospect, it's good that the year ended when it did, before one of the detectives provoked me to intervene in some truly harmful way. Once, in December, I found myself crossing that line - "going native," as journalists say. I was in the back seat of an unmarked car cruising Pennsylvania Avenue, accompanying Terry McLarney and Dave Brown in their search for a witness. At one point, the detectives suddenly pulled over to the curb to confront a woman who matched the description. She was walking with two young men. McLarney jumped from the car and grabbed one man, but Brown's trenchcoat belt became caught in the car's shoulder harness and he fell back into the driver's seat. "Go," he yelled at me, still struggling with the harness. "Help Terry."Armed with my ball-point pen, I followed McLarney, who was struggling to get one man up against a parked car while the second eyed him angrily."DO HIM!" McLarney yelled at me, gesturing toward the second man.And so, in a moment of weakness, a newspaper reporter shoved a citizen of his city against a parked car and performed one of the most pathetic and incompetent body searches on record. When I got down to the guy's ankles, I looked up over my shoulder at McLarney. He was, of course, laughing hard. I read through all the detectives' case files from the previous year, as well as the H-files on some of the biggest cases I had chased as a police reporter: the Warren House shootings, the Bronstein murders, the Barksdale warfare in the Murphy homes back in '82, the Harlem Park jacket slaying from '83. I nestled back into The Sun, took up my old beat and began encountering the detectives from the other side of the crime-scene tape. Once, at a triple murder in North Baltimore, I lost my temper at Terry McLarney when he wouldn't come out of an indoor crime scene to debrief me even as the home-final deadline passed. In the squadroom the next day, as I was ranting with probably a bit too much indignation, Donald Waltemeyer suddenly exploded out of his chair like a .45 round."Jesus fucking Christ, Simon. Listen to you. You're like one of these fuckin' defense lawyers who get you on the stand and start asking if it's true, Detective Waltemeyer, that you fucked some broad in 1929. Who gives a fuck? McLarney was on a scene and he didn't give a fuck about your fuckin' deadlines. So just go fuck yourself and tell your newspaper to go fuck itself and stop bein' a fuckin' lawyer with us."I looked over to see McLarney giggling, hiding his face in his sportcoat. "A whole year up here," Waltemeyer concluded, "and you're still nothing but a prissy bitch."Ah, normalcy.
