A Public Pat On The Back

Recommended Posts

I just had my first winning night on FCP. I turned $50 into $100 in the ring games and I finished second at a $30 +3 SNG to finish with a profit of $107 on the night. I am a newbie and most nights a complete donkey but maybe tonight can be the night I turn the corner and learn to stay patient, play smart, and stay off tilt even after a bad beat or a dumb mistake on my part. I don't know how many of you remember the first night you were able to quit ahead but I have tosay it feels good. Not for the $107 but because I was able to play well over a consistant period of a few hours or more. Maybe that's not very long but man it sure feels good. Thanks for listening.Bear

I'm not sure you can call it playing consistently good if your sample size is only a few hours, but congrats.

With what is now like a 150$ bankroll you shouldnt be playing above .05/.1 nl or like 5$ sngs. Just an FYI because bankroll management is often the most important thing.
I don't know why people feel the need to hammer this all the time. The fact is that a "bankroll" is for people that are trying to play the game seriously, and beat it for a consistent profit. The OP is obviously playing recreationally with the hope that he might make a little money on the side some time, and as such has no need for the BR concept whatsoever. Also, he'd obviously redeposit fairly soon if he lost, so the $150 isn't his "bankroll" anyway. It's just the amount that he put on the site in order to play a game.

that's an excellent start. congratulations.don't listen to all the general monkeys too much. be happy with your win, and if you want to get serious, try grinding it out with your newfound bankroll in some .25/.50 games to stay within your limits. if you're playing within your bankroll, and if you're posting questions in the strat section, you'll keep improving with every session. good luck, and (some of us) hope that your run continues...

I don't remember my first winning session, I think it came pretty early because I started out playing really tight-passive, which can win frequently. I do remember when I turned profitable for good (although if you look at my "Kill me" thread, you may doubt that it's permanent). I had tried a variety of styles, had quit and restarted, gone on an insane 2-3 week tilt when my wife and baby were hospitalized, and was down to the last $50 or so that I was willing to waste on this stupid game, and said, screw it, it's time to just go for it or give up. Tight aggressive all the way, tons of mistakes, but still a profit. I'm still not back to even overall, but that should happen soon. Without the hospital tilt, I'd be around even. Anyway, that moment when I switched and said it's time to either play or leave, it was magical. Good luck, I hope your streak sticks (unless you play against me).

Hey,Part of the reason I posted about last night's small personal victory is to find ouit who were supportive members of the poker community and who would use the opportunity to make themselves feel bigger by putting a new player down. For those of you willing to share kind words and valuable advice I thank you. To those of you who used the oportunity to flame me, I hope you got something out of it. I hope you feel better about yourself or look cool to your buddies. It means nothing to me. I'm just starting as a poker player. I know I'm not very good right now and all I want is to learn. I'm not even all that concerned about winning right now, just learning. I played the 30 + 3 sit and go because I was on a rush, maybe even tilting from winning but it worked out so I'll pull back now. Again, thanks to all those who are supportive of those who are trying to learn this incredible game. NBL,Bear.

A lot of the members of this forum can be insensitive and intolerant of new members, and it isn't fair. If you're looking for a community that will give you support and guidance, might I suggest coming into one of our many nationwide centers to learn a little about Scientology and take a fun, enlightening IQ test? We'd love to have you.

Alright I'm new...wtf does that [TP/MM] mean?
When a long time member wishes to show their cleverness and mildly insult a poster, they type it, it means Turn Pro/Make Millions, and is meant as a sarcastic witty retort.I still have a month or so to go before I can be that clever.

You've gone broke before right? The OP seemed like someone who was/is just starting out with online poker and was excited with a winning session. I'd rather give him advice that would potentially allow him to continue with this sucess rather then the sort that will see one downswing causing him to need to redeposit.

It's posts like this that remind me how gay this forum has become lately....
You know how I know you are gay?Because you think you can identify the sexual orientation of forums.
