AcesUp46 0
Hi,I've been a lurker in the FCP forum and finally decided to sign up. Anyway, this July, I'm moving out to Palo Alto, CA. It's my first time being in California. I know that Cali has some great poker rooms. Could anyone give me any advice on which are the best poker rooms in or near Palo Alto? If it helps, I usually play 10/20 or sometimes 20/40 Holdem in my local cardroom.Thanks.

FourFlusher 0
There are also rooms in Hayward, Tracy, Turlock and Livermore, but, they are small.Chuckchansi and Table Mountain are Indian casino's with poker rooms and are a few hours drive. Both are near Yosemite National Park and are worth the trip if you stay a while. AcesUp46 0
Thanks a lot for the replies so far! Anyway, how are the rake structures at these cardrooms? At my cardroom, for the 10/20 and 20/40 game, the rake is 10% up to max $5 + $1 bad beat jackpot. And if there is no flop, then no drop. Is this the case in the cardrooms mentioned? I read somewhere that California cardrooms always drop the small blind, regardless of whether or not there was a flop. And at some cardrooms, the button has to post a small blind or something.Anyone can give any input? Also, how are the players there?

Not so much in NorCal as in SoCal, but still a lot more agg then most people are used to. Lots of LAG players (loose-aggressive) at most levels. If you can't handle having your flopped set of aces go down to runner-runner flushes, then you might find the experience a bit frustrating.
ricker 0
Lucky Chanceshttp://luckychances.com/Artichoke Joe'shttp://artichokejoes.com/The Oaks Card Clubhttp://www.oakscardclub.com/ I lived there for five years and I never heard of those three...I guess I wasn't half the degenerate I am today
PMJackson21 0
I lived there for five years and I never heard of those three...I guess I wasn't half the degenerate I am todayNever heard of Lucky Chances even? Ha. They had a WPT event there season 1 (I think Darden won, win Antonio and Hellmuth at the FT).For a long time, LC was the only place you could play NLHE in the area. That is no longer true, since they were forced to convert to spread limit like Bay 101 and Garden City.
FourFlusher 0
Garden City can't play NL, so, they play $3/$100 spread limit.I thought it was funny when I saw it.They have one NL table at the Palace in Hayward, nobody else in the East Bay seems to spread it.

The game plays like 1/2 Limit so you can either make a killing punishing people or get murdered by runner runner 9 high flushes even if you raise 20 preflop. The game in Hayward is pretty good from what I hear, though I have never played in it.War John Stockton

XX44466XX 0
I live up the 680 corridor and the Grand is up there, by Concord. $2/2/3 NL HE min $100, max $200 buy-in I think, then there's 3/6, 6/12, 12/24 & Omaha 8/b 4/8. I run a 1/2 NL Dealer's Choice game a few nights a week, usually 5-8 guys w/anywhere from $500-1000 on the table by the end of the night, up in that area too. There's a ton of cardrooms within a hour's drive from where you'll be...
FourFlusher 0
I don't think I've seen anyplace spread a 12.24 before, but, never really looked for it.I play 3/6, and am a few hundred short of starting to think about 4/8.
AcesUp46 0
Thanks for all the info so far. I'm really looking forward to playing Limit Holdem in California. Heard that the players can be really aggressive (compared to elsewhere), even at limits below 20/40. I just hope that the rake structures are reasonably good near Palo Alto.On a side note, Phil Hellmuth lives in Palo Alto right? Anyone knows which casino he frequents around the area?
