lordofelt 0
I have 2 Questions about this tournament:1. Has it been confirmed that the final table will indeed be all NLHE?2. Is it going to be played as NLHE instead of LHE throughout the rotations of the tournmament? If both of these are the case I think it will really take away from the tournament as it'll become who is really good at NLHE and good enough at the other 4 as upposed to who is the best at all of them. BeaverStyle 1
I agree this should be what determines the "world champion". However, it is a shame that the ME has become such a crap shoot...If you mean by "crapshoot" that it is all luck to get through it, you are wrong.C'mon, Ivey got 20th place right? Raymer got 25th. Tim Pham went deep. You might think the ME is a crap shoot, but I think the ME primarily shows that the pros will consistantly do WELL in it, but poker is still poker, and your amateur from Iowa who got in through a $50 satellite has a chance. I don't think that makes it a crapshoot, I think that makes it a great event. However, the HORSE event will definitely show who:1. Has an overall understanding and skill in the HORSE games.2. Gets lucky in that tournament.I'm happy they brought this tourney to the WSOP, and I hope it becomes the new guage from which we judge great players' abilities.
myenemy 0
The Hold 'em portion of the rotation will be limit poker, as all other games played will be. I think it is great that the final table will be NLHE, it sincerely will be a determination, or the closest possibility of such, of who the best overall poker player is in the world. You certainly couldnt make that determination without NLHE, but no player at the final table will not have already shown his ability to play all the games. And since you couldn't, and shouldn't, strategically have NLHE in the rotation of limit games, I think the format is excellent. That all being said, there is no way that Harrah's will ever designate this event 'The World Championship of Poker'. It would be too detrimental to the number of entrants to the main event due to 'lack' of prestige. I am very much wondering how many will enter the HORSE event though. My thinking is maybe 150, maybe less. That alone would be $7.5 Mil, and very top heavy payout due to such a small number of entrants. Thoughts?
chester97 0
i think it completely sucks that they go through a 50k HORSE tournament just to get to a final table and play no limit. it doesn't fit. i know it's prettier for tv, but cmon.

myenemy 0
It is convenient for TV but I dont think TV has as much to do with it as you're making out. I think if asked all the major pros would say that they want this final table to be NLHE, after all this was decided upon at a forum of most of the top pros.

Cadam11 0
I thought I remember someone saying that it was Daniel that suggested the final table to be NLHE. Is that correct or am I remember it wrong?

KingJames 11
He did suggest it.Blog"Personally, I would love to see the following event: H.O.S.E all the way down to the final table where the game would then become no limit hold'em. This would satisfy the players who are all around good players, increase the likelihood of a final table with star power, while maintaining the core television audience by giving them what they want- no limit hold'em. "I like the idea of the FT being NLHE. You've proven your mastery of the other games getting to the final table. Now let's see if you can play a 6th game.James
ryansd 0
By saying it is a "crap shoot" I never meant it was ALL luck...but you sure do need a ton of it. Of course SOME pro's can get lucky out of a large feild of them. I think 50k HORSE up until the final table , to end with NLHE would be a great format.

Al Smooth 0
a guy from my wife's work just won a seat to this event so I told her that he should just sell it cause there is no way that he will even place in this event. But seriously if anyone won a seat for this event would you just sell it or would you actually try. to me i would rather sell that and take my chance in the lottery that is now the Main Event, or try a few of the smaller buy in events.I'm basically a hold 'em guy, so if I won a seat I'd Stake someone who I knew had a well rounded game...unlike myself. ROGUE06 0
I am really excited to see this on TV and read the results as they're posted live. I wonder if they're going to decide to make the final table a regular 1 hour show or make it longer. I really wish they would broadcast most of the event like the main event which is very unlikely although it would still make great TV since it is all the of the game's biggest stars. gkunit20 1
I like it. This is really how you can test who is the best. By adding NL HE it forces the limit players to play a game they are not exactly comfortable with, and the NL players have to prove they can play limit to be rewarded with their best game. chester97 0
but it isn't a NL tournament. there are about 5000 of those at the WSOP. this is a horse tournament, and in my opinion, should be so until somebody wins. they wouldn't do it for any other tournament. limit, razz, stud, etc. they shouldn't do it here. not to mention its a 50k tournament. i know people know the structure and know what they're buying in to, but you don't play a certain array of games until the final table and then just change it.but thats just my opinion. ROGUE06 0
Has it been posted anywhere what the rough estimate of people that are going to be doing this tourney?
crocd99 0
personally i think this tourney is awesome. i also love playing all the games and dont stick to just holdemfrom my understanding the reason for this tourney is because the pros seemed a little upset with all the nl tourneys and felt harrahs was trying to forget about themso they asked the players what they wanted and this is what they wanted. the nl final table imo is awesome. these pros want to find out who the best all around player is. its hard to find the best all around player with just limit. i mean really look at the big game yeah the play a lot of limit but they also have the pl and nl games added in. in the pros mind, and mine too, some sort of nl or pl game needs to be added in to find out who the best is.but the way horse is you cant have nl or pl in a rotation it just doesnt work so they had to find somewhere to put it. so what better place than at the final table. yeah some of the reason are for t.v. but really i think its awesome. you get the best pure allaround players at one final table by playing all the games and then you make them finish off with what doyle says it the cadillac of poker. the greatest form of poker out there.now this is a tourney i am looking forward too. There are already how many events that are striclty NLHE and now we have another FT with NLHE...again.Here is what I suggest...at the FT play NL HORSE. how cool would that be just throw the limits out. Then yes for part of that you would play NLHE, this would satisfy all the people that know nothing of the other games. But then play NLOmaha, NLRazz (that would be siiiiiiiiiiick), and NLStud H/L. again JMHO...thoughts??
Man_With_An_Axe 0
Don't get your knickers in a twist people.Harrahs knows that this event'll generate alot of interest. They'll be releasing (either part of the 2006 DVD set or alone) coverage of this event that is far more indepth than their usual final-table fare.As for the final table, sure it'd be nice to keep it HORSE - but I'm sure when they release the DVD set - or show it on ESPN - there'll be plenty of other games to keep people bored of NLHE entertained. ROGUE06 0
So who does everyone think the big favorites are? I am going with all the big stakes cash game players in the big game. Phil Ivey, Negreanu, Forrest, Giang and Brunson automatically come to mind.

Can we change it? No of course not but this is a poker forum where we can discuss how we would do things if we were in charge.Fact 1: Harrah's will make a lot of money regardless.Fact 2: The HORSE event will be awesome no matter how playedFact 3: Poker is the best game in the world (ok maybe that is opinion but most here would agree)
