In addition to the thrills of its new "PokerDome," Fox says its series will also offer pricey, stand-alone "megaevents." The first such "Poker Dome" event is planned for July and isscheduled to star the poker wizard Phil Ivey. Mr. Ivey, along withfive other gamblers, will each have to pay $10 million buy-ins for theright to participate in a $60 million, winner-take-all face-off. Themoney promises to trade hands very, very fast.i can see ivey going on his own. i can possibly see beal playing and going on his own. i don't see too many other players going on their own in this. discuss. FullMontyM1 0
If this thing is for real, I imagine a lot of the top pros will be a) putting togther their own satellites to gather the buy-in for this B) putting together groups of backers and sponsors.Monty

ucladave 0
Good god this cant be real. What among the top pros even has that kind of Bankroll to be throwing out 10 mil? I can't even fathom that...
Jam-Fly 8
Ivey, Beal, Phillips is worth enough to gamble 10mill is he ?, maybe Reese or Brunson, but probs not alone. Greenstein, Hansen. THeyre the only players that come to mind and i still dont think they could afford to LOSE 10mill. I think theres supposed to be 2 internet qualifiers too. But with the price that high, top pros wil be playing the satelittesalso if you think about it. playing a 10k buy in event, with say, for example, 5700 (with a normal pay out structure), not even winning that would net you 10mil
FullMontyM1 0
Consider the possibility of ten pros getting together to stake each other, playing a 10-seat sng for the right to represent the 10 mil at the big event. There are also intangibles to consider. Something this big ($60 mil) is probably going to get watched by a lot more people than even the WSOP.Fox is probably looking at securing 10-20 million viewers with this show. While poker players' visibility (q-rating) has increased 10 fold recently, this sort of thing will put the people that play in everybody's face nationwide. It theoretically will elevate one or more poker players to Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan, Seinfeld status. That status comes with more than $60 mil in endorsement deals, book sales, etc.Taking into account the potentially lucrative back-end of appearing on the show makes risking the money a safer gamble than it appears on its face.I'm sure the top pro's who can consider bankrolling themselves have finance gurus crunching numbers for them right now trying to put an actual $ amount on the ancillary financial benefits of paying $10 million dollars for X hours of exposure to a range of viewers between 5-30 million.Consider super bowl ad time. You're paying $1 million for 30 second spots there. Here you are paying $10 million for several hours of prime-time television.Bankrolling yourself is not going to be necessary probably, but it may be a financially viable option. There's probably going to be heavy sponsorship deals going on as well, depending on how Fox is willing to handle product placement.Monty

FullMontyM1 0
how many pros would be willing to put up a million dollars of there own money when beforehand they wouldnt know who they were going to have play for them. also, how many pros have a million dollars anyway thatthey can risk for this, even if staking wasnt part of the equationHow many pros have a million dollars period? Not really sure. Do you want me to guess? 1200. How many of those have enough to wager on something like this? 100? 200 tops. How many of them would be willing to risk 500k, if they were half-staked, for a shot at 60 million? A lot. How many would be willing to do the same thing if they were guaranteed a shot at 10% of 60 million on top of a clear shot at getting past 15 players for 60 million? A lot more. The reason I offered that possibility is because I believe most of these folks, faced with such a decision for a large part of their bankroll, would rather be guaranteed a piece of the action if they don't make it through a satellite than simply walk away with nothing. It's probably more likely that one hundred of them would get together and put down 100k for a single shot, maybe with a shared stake based on finish.Staking is a big part of it.Bottom line, if Fox is rolling out this series past the development stage, then they've talked it over with the appropriate experts and have done at least some preliminary research on whether it is possible to get 6 people to buy in for 10 mil. If it wasn't possible, they wouldn't be talking about the series publicly.I'm just speculating on how the buy-ins would be secured. Is the show definetly going to happen? Not saying that at all. If the show does happen, it will happen because a few hundred wealthy people get together and come up with creative ways to put together 10 mil, staking sponsorship, satellites all being a part of that.Monty
