cemo76 0
He made a promise and stuck it out although he disagreed with the format. Just like many Canadans, we are polite enough to disagree in a non offensive way. He is dead on when he says it was collusion. It takes away from the skill of POKER altogether. Poker is NOT a Team sport. The whole idea is "lone Warrior" trying to emase as much power as possible on his own. The proper Format would be to have a national championship, like a CAnadian open. The winner then represents Canada at the world cup of POKER. That would be an awesome Tournament. I think Daniel Saved FACE by writing his blog and protesting the TOURNEY. Good Job Bro. Ps. T Dot Forever................
LadyGrey 8
Just like many Canadans, we are polite enough to disagree in a non offensive way.Bit of a generalisation don't you think? DN 'disagreed in a non offensive way' because of his principles, not his nationality.
Trail Boss Mitch 0
Nice one DN...you are right about these so-called team events. They stink. You mentioned a couple of better ways to format a team tourney. What was the purpose of such a collusion-inducing format? Were they trying to give the soccer players a chance to be more involved without getting tossed out early?I don't get it. I love poker, too. Cheating in any form is unacceptable. I would have been tempted to walk out. You probably did the right thing by staying. There's nothing worse than a cheat.
cemo76 0
I think Daniel takes pride in his Canadian Background and some of his personal traits can be atested to his Canadian Heritage. It is mere Fact that around the World Canadians are recognized for their Politeness, Humanity and Compasion. We are known as peacekeepers and one of the only non Aggressive G7 Nations. If you ever travelled to Europe you would see this. It may be a generalization but its the Truth. He was Representing CANADA at this tournament and made a Moral decision not to Colude with his teamates. We can Win with grace and lose with honour. Daniel, Lets have a Canadian OPEN! cemo76 0
Guys, This was the "World Cup of POKER"? The reason we are discussing Nationalities is Because Evelyn, Daniel And Jason De Vos were Representing Canada at this Tournament. That is the only reason I mentioned Daniels Heritage. In Canada we are taught in School to be Understanding, Polite and FAIR. This has nothing to do with Playing the game of POKER but rather how you conduct yourself as a person. I think Daniel made a Decision Based on that upbringing not to colude. Simple as that. By the way we do not have a HUGE army because no one has threatened nor attacked our country sinsce the US did in 1812!!. We don't stick our noses where it does not belong and try and befriend everyone not rule everyone. Daniel, YOu did us Proud bro.
myenemy 0
I agree with this being a strange and bastardized form of poker, but I also think that within the confines of this tournament it was okay, maybe even fun. Lets face it though, this was a publicity stunt...they had soccer players playing. Could this legitamately be called the World Cup of Poker? And give me a break on all the Canadian chest pumping here. I have nothing against the Kanucks but you can certainly find a better reason than this to be proud. TonyG made it sound as though the only reason that the Canadians lost was their lack of preperation...maybe thats true. Had Danny known about this format would he have played? He says 'no' now, but.... he might well have just prepared like everyone else. Finding out the day before might not have been enough lead time to do so. I think the biggest concern here is the worry that this event could promote collusion among the masses of fish who think TV poker is king. I hope this thing doesnt even air in the US!We don't stick our noses where it does not belong and try and befriend everyone not rule everyone. Please dont talk about what Canada does and doesn't do on the foreign political scene. If you must just talk about what it doesn't do though, you'll have much more to say. Your thanks are not needed. As opposed to here in England where we are taught to be close-minded, rude and unfair?Well you can be a bit rude. But we yanks still love you. cemo76 0
Wow, Britain and the U.S. bashing CAnadians? What has this world come too?We were discussing Collusion and how Daniel MAde a Stand against it by just playing rather then devising a plan with his partners on how to beat the other team by telling each other what they held. It was a national (so called) event and that is why we were discussing it as a whole. England is a country known for imperialism and dominace by force. Just ask India/South Africa etc etc. Now that you can not do it on your own you have become America's PET. What Bush wants , BLAIR GIVES! At least the U.S.A makes it own decision even if they may be Harsh and Incorrect. England on the other hand should be ashamed. Canada was never atacked by JAPAN. Show me one historical piece of evidence. Please don't bash our military forces either, cause we were the first nation to back you up in WWI and WWII and the Korean War. I am not writing a political piece here, I was just giving an example of how Daniels upbringing influenced his decision not to CHeat at that particular Tournament!Go Canada! As a matter of fact, Canada lost more soldiers than America sent. That's what you should be proud of. WWII Canada entered before us again.Japan tried to come across the Alutien Islands in WWII, known fact. They would have to have come across Canada to get to us, but I admit it was a stretch. We're just having fun with you. We all love Canada, how can you not love a country that has town's like MooseJaw and Medicine Hat. Great truckstops in both towns btw.England is one of the greatest countries in the history of the world. Canada will always be insignificant in world affairs, just too few people and too small of an economy. California has a larger economy than your whole country and we put an action hero actor in charge of it for fun. As a rule, the history of the world has always, and will always be dictated too by the aggressive forces, not the passive ones.
cemo76 0
Hey Ballon, I hear what you are saying. Canada is small in population but large in Humanity, Freedom of Speech, Freedom to have same medicare for all whether poor or rich, education regardless of monetary value, right to privacy without phones being tapped, right to move volutarily to any country in the world without regulations, free to tell people you are Canadian without the threat of them hating you??Secondly I never said the USA went to war first, I said we backed you up meaning we were on your side as Obviously you would take the lead role in any of the major wars. Thirdy, getting back to Poker, Daniel made a stand and said he is against collusion in any form. He was brought up a certain way that deters people from taking the easy way out. He did not want to cheat as he Stated it. All I was saying is that Daniel (representing CANADA at this tournament )made a nice MOVE.Simple as that!

England on the other hand should be ashamed. This is exactly what I'm talking about - you are completely generalising and using national stereotypes. Whatever Tony Blair does is not representative of the beliefs and sentiments of the entire British people. To me you just sound like yet another ignorant pseudo-liberal pacifist. FYI, I didn't agree with the War on Iraq (and nor did 50% of the country) and as for imperialism - we're living in a post-colonial society so how is this relevant? The War on Iraq was/is not an expansionist attack. Get your thoughts organised.
weishan14 0
I don't usually get involved in these threads, but I just have to say, being from Michigan and sharing a border with Canada -- I still can't make myself believe that Canada is a foreign country. (We can even use Canadian coins here--not in vending machines of course, but in strores, etc.) I can't believe that we will have to have a Passport to cross the border in the future. The other think I would like to add to this thread is that I have found that people are people, no matter what country they are from. I volunteer with a group that teaches ESL (English Second Language). We have had people from about 29 different countries and they are all neat people. My outlook has been greatly expanded because of what I have learned from them about their countries and cultures. I don't care what color or nationality people are, inside we are all made the same. I am proud of my country, but I am also proud to be part of the human race. I am proud of Daniel for taking a moral stand and for handling it in a non-confrontational way. But then I am proud of Daniel anyway.
