Paul Phillips...

I dont know how many people know of or read Paul Phillips' blog over at extempore.livejournal.com but I have been reading it on and off for maybe a year, I dont mind admitting. He seems to be a very intelligent man with some good insight and I am genuinely interested in some of his topics. But at some point in almost every post I find myself thinking, 'God this guy has the biggest ego.' I know that basically a blog about your life is an excercise in egomania but this guy just tears everything down. Makes me laugh when people say Danny is an ego maniac, he's nothing compared to this guy. At least DN has an overall very positive message. I will continue to read Paul's blog because I do find him intriguing but I am wondering if any of you poker/cyber/blog surfers have any insight/thoughts on this.

Imagine your average 2+2 moderator (skinny, nerdy know it all who thinks he's better than everyone else) then add an assload of money and remove any accountability for actions. Now picture Paul Phillips, see any similarities?If I could do or say whatever I wanted without consequence, I'd probably do some of the same things.

I do read Paul's blog regularly, and really enjoy it.He can be a jerk and egotistical, but I think that's a combination of him being much smarter than pretty much everyone, and from him thinking he is much smarter than pretty much everyone.I find the blog extremely interesting.Shake = my hero

Right, except Paul's been successful at everything he's ever tried, whereas your average 2+2 moderator not only sucks at moderating, but also at life in general. Also, the guy sported pink hair at a televised final table. I don't think you can call him nerdy.

I read his blog pretty religiously and there are times he is just completely an ass_. Otherwise I find it fairly entertaining.

Meh... Case for ultra nerd-dom: 1.) Plays competitive Scrabble 2.) Is a spelling and grammar nazi 3.) Knows 7 brazillion times as much about computers as the average person Case against ultra nerd-dom: 1.) Was a successful professional gambler 2.) Dyed hair pink for a televised final table 3.) Wore a floppy Kangol hat at a televised final table 4.) Is frequently confused with the one-time sexiest man alive (lol), actor Matthew McConaughey 5.) Has non-ugly wife (lol, not qualified to declare 'hot' status) 6.) Did tons of drugs (has been alluded to in his blog) 7.) Has a sense of humor. Something tells me Bill Gates never laughs. Ever.

tenor aside, Paul is a brilliant dude who happens to be a compelling writer. The two don't often coincide. I find his thoughts genuinely interesting and it's rare I saw that of anyone.

Obviously a very smart person. But I enjoyed reading his blog a whole lot more when he played poker.I'm sure Scrabble takes some skills I'll never posess but to me scrabble isn't very interesting.

I'd replace number 7 on the against list with "Has attended multiple orgies. I know of many nerds with a sense of humor, but none who have been close to many naked women.
