Barry "the Assassin" Greenstein

Date / Time: 2006-03-29 12:47PM Title: "Should I Let Him Live?" Log: Barry Greenstein is on fire and everyone in the poker room knows it. Greenstein raised to $25,000 preflop and Fabrice Soulier moves all in behind him. Everyone is just waiting for the call from Greenstein. Greenstein yells over to Liz Lieu at the other table and asks "Should I let him live?". After everyone has a good laugh, Greenstein mucks his cards. :club:

Obviously, there is a lot to like about Greenstein's game. But one weakness I've noticed is his ego. He's got one...and it ain't tiny. Mr. I-made-a-ton-in-the-business-world-and-I-give-my-poker-winning-to-charity has a very latent arrogance about him. I'm not saying its a bad thing....but I am saying that just maybe a poker player could take advantage of something like that.

What am I hearing? Barry is a model of consistency. The guy has a true poker players mind. Just thinking about the IQ of this guy makes my eyes spin.

He-didn't-make-a-ton-in-the-business-world-his-money-comes-from-poker. But yes, I agree that Barry has a king-sized ego.

You're going to be hard pressed to find many top-notch poker players that don't have a well-developed ego. The timid and passive can't survive.

I thought Barry Greenstein sold his business...is that not correct?

Your perceptive abilities are awesome. Are you this tone-deaf with the spoken word, too, or is it just obvious written sarcasm you can't fathom?

Nope. He was one of the early employees at Symantec, but he says he didn't make much there. He quit Symantec to play poker cash games full time because he wasn't earning enough to support his family plus one of his children had some medical problems at the time that cost alot.

I think you're thinking of Paul P. or maybe that goofy looking guy from the celebrity poker show.
Both of them made a lot of money in business. Phil Gordon's company sold to Cisco for $90 mil, and Paul P. found a leprechaun's pot of gold or something (his company was called go2net and he managed to cash out right before it went busto).Barry started playing NL in the Bay Area for supplemental income, but he decided to TP/MM instead of the 9-5. Symantec didn't really get huge until they switched to the antivirus business which, I'm sure was long after Barry left. I only know of two guys that made a lot of money that got to the company early and they were the cofounders.

funny that when stuff like this comes out about Barry Greenstein....a lot of people like to bash him because of his gigantic ego (even though he is clearly one of the best all-around poker players in the world..IF not the very best.....tons of success everywhere.....), yet when DN ever talks about himself as the best player in the world or one of the best players in the world (which he does all the time), everyone likes to just say "oh, that's the confidence you need to be a great player" and "oh, he deserves it and has earned it" and other stuff like that. Nice double standard there by a lot of people (mostly a lot of the newbies....not too many veterans on here like that..). Personally...they should have big egos as long as it doesn't affect their play negatively....and I don't think it does in either case.Just b/c you like DN doesn't mean you have to dislike/make fun of BG.

I got it.U people need to listen to The Circuit, its been so god damn funny this week with Sebok and Gavin on
Agreed. For sure, they are good alternatives when MM isnt playing the tourney or is stuck in a cash game, and I find the two of them more entertaining and their poker advice more useful. Gavin, especially, is a helluva player and funny guy. Anybody know how he and DN get along, both being Canadian. I know GS issued some sort of challenge, but I dont know how DN responded.
