he was.nothing is funnier than people missing sarcasm.Gabe's 50x better than Mike Sexton.
Mike Sexton is terrible. ANother reason I don't like watching the WPT
The show is easily the best ongoing poker show on TV. The WPT has become a joke because of their final table blind structure, and WSOP is only once a year. It's also just refreshing to have a ring game show, as opposed to a tourney lottery. Pretty pure poker.I could also use less Gabe Kaplan though.
I just wish they would stop making such a big deal about how much money a pot is. Yeah, it's a lot more money than most people have but that is why it is called High Stakes Poker. We get it already!

.........Go back and read about Kaplan's poker history. I'm *pretty sure* he knows what a value bet is.If that doesn't convince you, watch that show again. He was *clearly* being sarcastic. Humor is usually a subjective thing, but it's almost black and white in this case. Stop trying to defend your point just because you can't take losing an argument.
...///~~~!!!@@@Losing an argument? My opinion is: Gabe Kaplan isnt a good commentator. This isnt an argument. Its my opinion.Further, my opinion is: He wasnt joking, and if he was, he definitely wasnt funny.Again, this isnt fact, its my opinion. As far as I seem to remember, hard to be wrong about what my own opinion is. But stop trying to defend your point just because you're an open sore on the genitals of life.Edit: Added random ascii and punctuation marks to my post, so that I would be able to properly communicate with the socially inept.

Fantastic show, and I like the commentary except for Benza hyping the pot sizes.http://pokerdb.thehendonmob.com/player.php?a=r&n=145102 cashes over 200k since July '04. Gabe knows what he's talking about on the felt.I would take these 2 guys over the ESPN WSOP crew and the WPT guys in a heartbeat. On a Scale of 1 to 10Hi-stakes commentary 7ESPN WSOP 6WPT duo 2I wouldn't mind seeing Gabe go back to the WSOP broadcasts and replace Norm Chad. I think that would be the best pairing.

9+ to anything involving Howard.

Overall I don't think Kaplan or Benza detract from the show all that much. I kind of just tune them out as much as I can. I just wonder how AJ Benza got on there in the first place. :club: My major criticism with the show is that it seems like they show 5 minutes of poker, then go right to 3 minutes of commercials. Is that the case, or is it more the same phenomenon you have when playing live, where you look at the clock and hours have passed when it seemed like only minutes?

Gabe Kaplan is MUCH better than Mike Sexton or Vince Van Puke. Also, Norman Chad gets a little too emotional about people's clothing, hair color, marital status, etc. Seems to have a screw loose somewhere. I'm a big Howard Lederer fan, but not the biggest fan of his commentary. He's a little dry. However, I do think that he'd be good on High Stakes Poker, because Gabe talks too loudly and you can't hear what the players are saying. I think we'd get more player conversation if Howard were commentating that show.Overall, I think Gabe is the most entertaining commentator and he was DEFINITELY being sarcastic with his value re-raising comments.

Gabes commentary is great, alright they hype the pot size and it is annoying, but it is better than everything else out there. The only thing that can compete is live at the bike. They are great commentators.

Sexton is pretty bad but I think Van Patten is the worse one out there!

I'd like to give a swift kick in the nuts to whoever taught Van Patten the hand nicknames. "And he looks down at MOTOWN. But he's not going to play it. ****, I know 3 or 4 more nicknames for that hand. How could he fold it." And drooling over that guys wife at the Borgata ... kinda nasty.

What annoys me about the WPT are the constant pop ups every time a poker term is used..if don't already know what a big blind is, you prolly ain't watching anyway. And, I hate it when all the shows explain that you can bet what ever you want, and can bet all your chips at any time. You can't bet what ever you want, there are minimums.

I think sexton and van patten are great at doing what they are supposed to be doing:dumbing down the product to the lowest common denomonator and making joe schmoe wanna go blow 10k at the next wpt event. Are they good? No. Does anyone that understands poker enjoy them? No. Do they help the moneymakers of the world come out? Probably. And Ive always thought Gordon was a great commentator when I watched CPS... its just a shame the product was so bad.

I swear, if I hear the line about the twigs and branches and the sucker again, I'm going to lose it.

How could you not like to have some insight from a guy like Gabe? He's been there, done that, which is enough for me. For example......Eli Elezra was thinking about what to do with his A/K. Three others had already at least limped in (i don't remember exactly how this went down, but you'll get the point before i'm done) Gabe was saying that even though Eli wasn't looking at him, Freddy Deeb was really the one he was worried about. He gave some good reasons ( I don't remember those either), and it all made sense. Bottom line....1) He's not as funny as he thinks he is 2) He's much better than anybody short of Howard. 3) He's a FREAKIN PRO WHO'S BEEN THERE!!!!

I like Gabe too, but I sure wish he would shut his mouth when the players are talking. I like to hear them argue!
